Offense or Defense in the Draft?

Well we got the man we were going after and that is the Tuna…Bill Parcells. Miami named him our VP of Football Operations. I am so happy with the move and it makes me want to jump with joy. Actually, I already have.
Anyways, were sitting at 1-13 and were fixing to play the best team in football history. The New England Patriots. Looking at it now, if we loose, which I am 99.9% sure we will, we would lock up the #1 pick overall in the upcoming draft. The question is, who do we pick?
It’s not like the Dolphins only need one player to turn this team around. We pretty much need a whole brand new team. Where do we start? I have gone through every player on the draft and learned that there isn’t one dominant player coming out of the draft. I wish we could have had this pick last year because we could have had JaMarcus. No telling what we are going to do with the pick.
I have gone through every position and I cam up with a list of possible candidates that the Dolphins could take with the #1 pick overall in the 2008 NFL Draft.

QB- There really isn’t one elite QB coming out of the draft this year. With Bill Parcells history, he doesn’t like to draft quarterbacks in the first round. Tony Romo, Tom Brady, and Brett Favre are three stud examples. Chances of us taking a QB with this pick is .1%. Leading candidate: Matt Ryan

RB- Here is where it gets tricky. We have Ronnie Brown back there who was on pace to have his breakout season BUT he tore his ACL. He was leading the league from yards at scrimmage. But, there is a man by the name of Darren McFadden who is an SEC standout that is hard to pass up on. Running back is not our main problem so what do you do? Do you pass up on the best player coming out of the draft or do you draft him even though your team isn’t in desperate need of him? Leading candidate: Darren McFadden

FB- Just forget this position even exists because…well, just because.

WR- Again, there is no solid WR in the draft. I’m a big fan of wide outs but when there is not a Calvin Johnson in the draft, you don’t pick him first overall. I am almost certain that we will not pick a WR. Look for one maybe in the second to third round. Even though the best overall WR is probably Malcolm Kelly, realistically, he won’t be picked #1 overall. Leading Candidate: (Best)-Malcolm Kelly, (Realistically)- James Hardy

OL- I personally do not believe in drafting OL with your first pick. I think with the first pick, you need to get a play maker. Offensive linemen are very unpredictable. Just look at Robert Gallery. He was supposed to be amazing and look at him now…he sucks! Anyways, our OL sucks and they will continue to suck no matter what, It’s been this way for many years. There is a chance we go offensive line, though. Leading candidate: Jake Long

TE- No dominant tight ends coming out this year. I’m not even going to bother.

DE- I love my defensive. I love my defensive line. I love Miami. There is a kid by the name of Calais Campbell. I think the dude is amazing and I see us going defensive with the first pick due to the fact that our defense has sucked this year. I mean our whole team has sucked but you get the point. Surprisingly, Campbell is not my front runner for this position. I can’t get enough of the 6’4, 264 pound Vernon Gholston. The guy is HUGE! If you haven’t seen him, go Google him. He is supposed to go in the mid 1st round, but “The Tuna†likes the big players and Gholston is just that. Leading Candidate: Vernon Gholston

DT- This is another interesting position. A lot of mock drafts have us getting Glen Dorsey. I do have a problem with this, though. You all don’t understand how overrated this kid is. He is injured all the time and really hasn’t don’t much this year. He hasn’t done anything to make us go “WOWâ€. He does not fit our system as well. Don’t get him. Leading candidate: (Best)- Chris Long, (Realistically)- Glen Dorsey

LB- It is tough to say what we will do with the 1st pick but I will tell you right now, we won’t pick a line backer. Just like most of the other positions, there isn’t a great one coming out. We were supposed to have one of the best line backing corps in the league, but that was a bust. Were going to have JP back next year and maybe Zach Thomas. Channing Crowder is our future LB. Just pass on the LB’s with this pick. Get them second day. Leading candidate: (Best)- James Laurinaitis (Realistically)- Jonathan Goff

CB/S- I don’t remember the last time a team with the 1st overall pick picked a corner or a safety. I don’t see it happening this year either. I think that we will pick a corner in the second or third round depending on who is left. Leading candidate: (Best)- Aqib Talib, (Realistically)- Mike Jenkins

OK I will bite: You will have to forgive me I have not talked much about the draft ocombines. Comments are in red.
n the Bills site yet. And hard to dig into this with no bowls, workouts and

This is a tough one to predict when the run on CBs go, But once it starts look for Either Jenkins start it. Mike or Malcom will be 1 and 2 then look for Cason and Talib to come off the board pretty quick after. The good thing is if you go for CB with your 1st second you can probably get one of the two, but will lose out on Davis, Rucker Carlson most likely at TE.

don't disrespect the FB position, Mauia hasn't been a great lead blocker and a FB is the centerpiece to a run offense success. im not saying we draft one im saying we can't disregard taking a owen schmitt, a mike cox or others.

i see carlson as a guy dropping out of day 1 he has been very unimpressive, i also have mike jenkins behind talib and cason as my #4 but thats just imo. i think we go after brad cottam who is out of tennessee (bill has a history of picking players from this school) and he will be available from the 4th to 6th rounds. not to mention he is big.

Yes but said he would not overule the GM so he is not making the choices.

Remember my dislcaimer on top I have not dug into the draft to much. My own rul cannot get into it until the Bills are done.

So about Carlson, I agree he looked bad this year with a very weak QB. I think he will still be the 3rd TE based off workouts and combine. Remember Scouts will not forget what he did with a good QB.

    Yes.

No. Jake Long is nowhere near the leading candidate for anything except hype. Ryan Clady and Jeff Otah are both better than him. Ryan Clady has #1 overall talent, but is unlikely to actually be selected by us. The defensive line needs more help than than the offensive line.

    Fred Davis.

Dorsey is better than Long, and Vernon Gholston has a legitimate shot of being taken by us.
