1. this defense showed up when it mattered. Overall we gave up a lot of yards, but Grimes INT and the pass rush stepping up late in the game won the game. So proud of them out there. 2. Tannehill getting into field goal range with 1:24. Awesome. I haven't seen us do that so smoothly in...god only knows. And great job by Sturgis to drill it even after the "icing". Great job. 3. Ran the ball much better this week. Both Miller and Thomas looked good. On Millers one 14 yd rush i thought he was GONE. Colts were lucky they caught him. 4. Way to go wallace. they had no answer for him. He made catches all day long. 5. Very quietly, Hartline went out an played a great game again. He is absolute money on the sidelines. 6. Clemons should have had 2 INTs in this game. He's got to catch them. 7. I am a pig in **** today. smiling ear to ear all ****ing day. Tannehill is now 3-1 against the other starting QBs of his draft class.
This defense is just superb. I love watching them play, man. And once we work Taylor and Davis in...and Dion gets more acclimated and into the rotation...dear lord we are gonna dominate opposing offenses. This is a defense we can ride to the playoffs. Offense was solid, even though we got away from the run a little too much. Miller's not a feature back, but he's an IDEAL rotational guy in the second-half once the defense is worn down a bit, and they start losing gap discipline. I think we'll see DT start a lot of 2nd halves like today when he looked good, then Miller gets a chunk of carries near the end of the third Q and on. Miller's a great option to close people out, especially when DT can spell him in the 2nd and 3rd Qs like did today. Tanny got out of rhythm a bit once we left the run game. I think that's important. Stay balanced for this kid, give him good looks on playaction for some easier rhythm throws. He's young, of course, so I don't yet worry about him not putting together 4 stellar quarters. That'll come. GREAT effing win. 2 AFC wins in our pockets, haven't even played at home yet. HELL YEA.
Add in better pass rush, coverage and QB. Other than that we're the same team. I mean it's not like any of those things are important or anything.
If Jordan is close to being 100%, I'd be looking over my shoulder if I were OV. Jordan will have to show that he can set the edge in his practice reps, but if he can do that, OV's time as starter is numbered imo. OV seemed to be a non factor on passing downs and rather soft in run D. On a goal line play today, OV was blocked pretty effectively and canceled out by flippin Reggie Wayne. Thats unacceptable from our DE. OV had 1 tackle, .5 sack, and 1 qb hit. Not awful. But Jordan had 2 tackles(and a would be sack) and 1 qb hit in way fewer snaps. The rook has a ways to go, but OV needs to improve his effort.
the way we're blitzing this year, i dont think it matters. Both will see the field. Guys like Luck perform well against our blitz, but we're not going to stop coming.
We'll definitely beat the Ravens so if we can pull a W out against Atlanta or NO we'll be even better than that.
So I'm watching the NFL Network (thinking I might see some positive highlights about our team), and after 75% of the highlights slanted towards the Colts, at the end of the segment... I THINK I hear Deion Sanders say "third place... Dolphins"... what the ****?!
I kinda don't mind it at all. Most of the asshats on those stations are biased and rarely give any REAL analysis of what did and didn't happen. Just paid to talk. I'd rather read what some folks here say to be honest.
I mean, mostly it's to be expected... if the Colts had won, they'd be drooling over themselves with joy. But for Deion Sanders to say third place Dolphins? really?
I make the 17 hour drive to Miami from West Virginia at least once a year to stand and cheer the Dolphins all game. Every single time I hear someone behind me yelling "Down in front!". The one thing I hate about our fan base. Feels great to be 2-0!!
next time they say that, pull down your pants, show them your bare ***... and oh yeah... stay STANDING UP!
You're from WV? I make that trip annually myself from the Wild and Wonderful. Except I fly. Too long a drive for me. Where're you from?
I've been trying to find a job out that way for a few years now...getting close. Little tough since it's government (and I'm currently government), and I need to find something in my job code.
To start with let me explain how I group teams. You either suck, are middle of the pack, are almost a superbowl contender, are a super bowl conteneder. There isn't much difference usually between a team that goes 7-9 and 10-6. Schedule, luck, injuries, a play here or there. I still see us as a mediocre team albeit one that is getting better incrementally. So far we've played a team that sucked and a mediocre one. Next week we play a team that is almost a super bowl contender. We won both games but until you start beating teams in the top two ranks you are still mediocre. The defense is nice and I've said before we have a championship quality defense though I wasn't happy with the first half performance. Too many breakdowns. On offense there are some positive signs but indy's defense is soft so I need to see them versus a good defense. Trust me, I'm not being negative. I actually have money on the dolphins making the playoffs because of the schedule but I'm not convinced we can do any daamage in the playoffs at this point. The oline could change that though. Indy is not the test I'm Looking for though
Sturgis is a BEAST!!! Hits the iced 54 yarder...and then does it again. That was impressive, and a big kick for us!
I saw a team hitting with conviction, on every play. This, to me, dictates a lot- a lot. Thats a small sign of big things. I saw a front seven that got blocked, and blocked, and blocked and never stopped coming. Not once did they seem defeated. I saw a secondary. Need say no more. I haven't seen one in quite some time. And man was it pretty. I saw some fortune fall our way. Baby Jesus was it nice not to feel cursed, to have that bounces fall our way for a change. I saw a QB that doesn't need much to be elite. A little pocket presence and an accurate deep ball (by accurate I mean a hit in stride). I saw improved play-calling. I saw no TDs left on the field. I saw improvement, forward motion. My coach used to say, "Get a little better every day." Spanish: Ni un paso atras ni para tomar impulso. Translation: not one step back not even to try and gain momentum. I saw myself being vindicated of all I posted the past week regarding Wallace and with all of some poster's blah, blah, blah about the media well, I guess someone in the organization was listening, huh? And sweeter still, you were wrong. If you feel somewhat defensive as you read this, yeah, its you. Shhh. You can't win 'em all. I lose my fair share as well. Wallace can score. Get em the ball. Bring on Atlanta. I saw, I see, I am watching; a football team. And a team can beat any few players.
Sure he can. Keep saying it like a mantra. Maybe it'll come true. I prefer he keeps practicing it. I like his chances of improving quicker that way. He hits long plays. Would you say he hits the deep ball keeping the WR in stride more often than not? No. The TD pass he hit Hartline with last week, that was a thing of beauty. When that becomes the norm instead of the exception, then we're talking. Ofcourse he can do it. And he has done it. But consistently? No. Not true.
If you're talking about completions, you are both correct. Elite QBs can drop it in the basket for what it feels like "all of the time". When Marino didn't do it, it was an anomaly, no? When Peyton doesn't do it it's, "The defense got lucky." Well, thats what I want form Tanne. When he fails to lead the Wr, i want to be able to say, "That's usually a TD" not "That should've been a TD." Because i find myself saying the former a. lot. I really am deeply overwhelmed by the majority of mediocrity satisfaction on this forum. Dare to want, mind you, not expect (its just his second year) but want another Marino; and you're crazy. No QB does it all of the time- come on, man. Strive to say ours does. And if he doesn't, that it's a rarity and everybody knows it .
That's the point. When Marino didn't do it, it was the norm. Same with Peyton and every other QB. I know it can look that way if you mostly watch highlights, but reality is that long passes are low percentage passes. We just tend to forget most of those misses b/c they're not replayed over and over on highlights. The fact is that even for the greatest QBs every one of those highlights are accompanied by two or three misses.
You have to think this is the type of improvement Ross wanted to see. Last year, same stadium, we lose after luck roasts us at the end. We saw Hilton go off, just like last year. But this year Grimes makes an interception instead of smith whiffing. Ross has to look at this when considering Irelands future.
Just got to watch the game (rewind). My initial thoughts. 1. Receivers still drop too many passes. Drive killers throughout the first half. 2. We ran well, and should of ran more, IMO. 3. Tannehill looked damn good throughout the game. Colts don't exactly have an all-world D, but none the less. Love what I saw. 4. Offense looked better prepared than week 1. 5. 2-0. Feelsgoodman.jpeg
I hope I can catch the replay of the game on AFN (had to tolerate Chi v Minn and Wash v GB last night....grrrr) but I knew...KNEW we were going to beat the Colts! With the internet also being down last night (freaking conspiracy to keep me from following the game! ) I wasn't able to following the game on nfl.com but it seems that our defense put the kind of heat on Luck that we were able to on Weedon. Does feel great being the only Dolphins fan here in the barracks and able to talk smack to all the naysayers, particularly the Colts fans!
Just watched on Game Pass. Carroll made like 2-3 good breakups in tight coverage. That's what I noticed with him.
Why don't you just pay a few bucks and get Game Pass on nfl.com? That's a great way to watch all the games. We also get the games in 3 versions. Standard, condensed and All 22.
I am just glad Cleveland took Richardson instead of Tannehill! Kinda like how glad Atlanta was that we took Long instead of Ryan.
/ Sometimes these things are restricted by country. Not saying that is the case here, but maybe Afghanistan isn't on the list of approved places to watch
You can add a third. I'm originally from Wheeling, and lived in the Morgantown area for seven years. I've lived in east Virginia since 2004, but Im WV guy for life.
Carroll is a feast or famine type player. One play he'll just get roasted on a simple route, next play he'll break up a pass while covering an elite receiver.
i just watched the game again...on that first pass completion to wallace of the game, Lamar Miller is streaking down the left sideline totally uncovered out of the backfield
