So far Clay has done very well for us in these two weeks. I mean he's actually on pace for quite a season. I love how he's a hybrid FB/TE...Kind of reminds me of Larry Centers from the mid 90's. I really like Clay and hope he contiues to do his thing. He's made the absence of Keller a littler easier to deal with.

Getting publicly praised by a coach or GM means nothing.

CC9's problem was always consistency, last yr irrc he was highly productive from a catch/Td perspective, he also had a large amount of drops.

Interesting to watch this week to see if the Falcons game plan for him and what our adjustment will be, Sims or Egnew probably will be asked to do more this week if they counter move v Clay.

IIRC, he is both the only Te with a reception, and the only Fb with a carry this yr on the roster?

One carry in the NFL. One TD.
That is all I need to know.

Maybe next week Coach Philbin will say he's the next Tom Brady :shifty:

Clay has given us two reasonably decent games, lets not anoint him the next Tony Gonzales just yet. I am encouraged though, far better than the gut punch when Keller went down for the season.

I would not be certain about it, they trust him to block, he has a huge amount of physical tools, if they concentrate on Clay, Eggnog will have the mismatch.

If he can be consistent, from the H-back position he can be a Swiss Army knife for this offense.

I talked Clay up in preseason. I compared him to a poor man's Aaron Hernandez (sans murder charges) with the ceiling to be AH. To me, he's more of a versatile h back than a true TE. Like Hartline, I think he would benefit from not being the #1 where teams can gameplan against him.

Even still, he's the best thing going at the TE position, so I hope he continues to step up and make plays. Has to stop dropping passes though. He had two big ones against Indy, despite his other big plays.
