Your readers have reading comprehension issues.

You state the Falcons have an edge in Safety because Clemons is listed on the injury report, and all of them say our safeties are better because of Jones and Clemons.

    Good article..thanks for sharing.

So if you were a gambling man, where would you put your money on this one?

I'm probably riding too high from being 2-0, but I really think our 'phins can win this game.

It's a good article, but I'm a little surprised that you didn't refer to the Sam Baker and Roddy White (high ankle sprain) injuries, which could prove to be significant. Also, I found "Margin of Advantage" to be a bit confusing when the vertical list was the players providing that advantage. "Margin" makes me thing of some numerical value, as opposed to maybe "Player Advantage" or something like that. Just a thought.

If I were a betting man, I wouldn't touch this game, lol. There are SO MANY injuries in this one. It could break either way. I'm not saying nobody can know how it's going to go. I'm saying I don't have a good enough grasp on it to where I feel confident I'm the one who knows.

I don't think either player will miss the game, based on what I've seen and heard. Maybe they do. We didn't expect Dimitri Patterson to sit out the entire Colts game. The unexpected does happen.

My inclination is to pick the Falcons in this game but it's not a strong feeling at all because I think injuries on both sides have inserted a large element of unpredictability (for me).

What I worry about is this...

    1. The loss of Steven Jackson doesn't influence the passing game. If anything it enhances it because Jacquizz Rodgers is going to get an increased workload and he's one of the better blitz pickup guys in the league (believe it or not). He's also dangerous catching passes for obvious reasons (small, shifty, quick). This is an important factor because Matt Ryan throws a lot of balls to his running backs as outlets underneath the coverage. Last week I watched Ahmad Bradshaw and Stanley Havili get 45 yards after the catch against our linebackers on 5 catches. Those are like run plays for a guy like Matt Ryan and it's important how you limit them.

    2. You've got Chris Clemons ailing. If he doesn't go, you've got Jimmy Wilson in his place which is bad enough but Wilson is also Limited in practices this week. You've got Dimitri Patterson ailing and you don't know what's going on there. Will Davis appeared close last week but he's still Limited this week so you've got no idea what's going on there. You can't have a run-down secondary playing against the likes of Julio Jones, Roddy White, Harry Douglas and Tony Gonzalez. Not when Matt Ryan is throwing the ball.

    3. Going back to Tony Gonzalez, I watched him and even though he wasn't productive he's still more than capable of getting open against man coverage. Between scheme, talent, whatever...Miami is having trouble with tight ends. The lack of ground game hurts you because it makes it tougher to get first downs. But I think the use of Tony Gonzalez against our defense will make it easier to do that.

I think they have the ability to turn this into some 30 point track meet and I'm not sure what I have seen from the Dolphins offense suggests they can keep up with that kind of game.

But then again, injuries can change the entire complexion of this one.

The only thing I have a problem with is WR.

Roddy White hasn't been at all effective yet this year. He may actually be a liability out on the field.

I would surely give Julio Jones the advantage over Wallace but the way things are right now I give an ad to Hartline over White and Gibson and Matthews over Harry douglas and the other Falcons WR's.

Yes, I would actually give the receiving ad to the Dolphins, even if you include the TE's. Tony Gonzalez has slipped to mere mortal status. I think he should have stayed with retirement. If the Falcons fall behind and become desperate he is going to take some vicious hits in this game. 37 is awful old for a guy who makes his living catching passes in the middle of the field.

So ya, Julio Jones is great, but I give advantage to the Dolphins WR's as a whole.

I think the opinions of Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez are really too oriented toward the production numbers. What I saw on tape says they're more dangerous than their stats let on.

Ryan was sacked on 3.3 percent of dropbacks when not blitzed, and 11.1 percent of dropbacks when blitzed.

That kind of jumped off the page for me, especially after reading about his gaudy rating when blitzed. That means that over 10% of pass plays are going for significant negative yardage for the Falcons.

    That's correct.

Though, law of small sample sizes applies here. We're talking about 3 sacks, lol.

    Hrm.

Well, at least we WERE talking about 3 sacks last night. Apparently PFF has updated their data and taken one of the sacks that they had attributed as happening on a non-blitz, and saying it now happened on a blitz. The new percentages are 1.7% on non-blitz and 14.3% on blitz.

    Hate when they do that.

Anyway. Like I said though. Law of small sample sizes.

Even if you include the loss of sack yards you have 19 of 28 passing for 315 yards, 1 TD and 0 INTs....which is a 117.4 passer rating on blitz versus a 91.9 passer rating when un-blitzed. That's impressive work against the blitz considering passer ratings versus the blitz are generally a bit lower than versus non-blitz.

But I think Miami needs to blitz him. He's not got a history of being great under pressure.

Roddy White has been hurt...and really hasnt been anything other then a "possum" so far...this from Roto World.

"White played on just 34-of-64 offensive snaps in Sunday's win over the Rams and will continue to be limited in practice this week. He and has only five catches for 40 yards through two games. White isn't more than a risky WR3 option until he proves he's over his high-ankle sprain. "

Falcons wide receiver Roddy White (ankle) did not practice Wednesday as the team prepares for Week 3 at Miami. White has been on the injury report all year, but he has yet to miss a game.

I'm not sure equating this Roddy White vs. a healthy Roddy White would really reflect Sunday's game.

Falcons wide receiver Roddy White was again a minimal contributor Week 2 against the Rams. He was on the field for only two plays in the first quarter and in and out of the lineup the rest of the way, catching three passes for 21 yards.

White missed the entire preseason with the same ankle injury that's plaguing him now. He said after Week 1 that he's mostly a decoy in his current state and likely won't be himself for several weeks.

Correct...but...Roddy White hasnt missed a game yet, and so far is a shell of himself.

    Given the injury status...

Why wouldn't a receiving core of Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, Brandon Gibson, and Charles Clay be an advantage for Miami?

I'm not saying he's at full strength. I'm just saying that from having watched the tape, he's still dangerous. He's still Roddy White, just not quite a full strength Roddy White. He's playing like 65 percent of the pass snaps.

And every week he's going to get better. It's not like he's just going to stay like this the whole year.

Will be interesting to see how we approach the game. Julio Jones is a monster, he beat the Rams almost single handily. Though I can definitely see the Falcons trying to negate our pass rush by spreading us out and Ryan throwing alot of very quick passes.

I hope Dion Jordan is more involved in this game. If that happens one thing you like about the 6'6" long-armed rookie is he can get his hands up into the quick passing lanes.

Man - I'm just the opposite - I love Miami this week. Atlanta is like the perfect matchup for us. Beatable O-line / Weak D-line. I think we get to Ryan and disrupt him for turnovers and I think RT gets sacked less and we are able to run the ball.

I see time of possession favoring Miami and the Heat and Humidity wearing them out. I think we get our home opener and the roll continues.

    I see $$$$$$ here. :hammertime:

Roddy White has a lingering high ankle sprain, missed practice this week and is averaging a paltry 20 yards per game over the first 2 games. Not looking too good for him right now. The Falcons have Harry Douglas as a backup, not much else.

This is an excellent point !! The Hotter it is the more hurry up I hope we use. Run 'em into the ground - We can force 3 timeouts just to catch breath and water. LOL Dome teams and Northern Teams DIE in this heat - or they used to anyhow when we were good.

IMO, We Should StIck Carroll Or Patterson On White And Just Have Grimes On Julio The Whole Game. It's Obvious That With The Injury Roddy White Is Just A Shell Of Himself Right Now. Itd Be A Shame To Have Grimes On A WR That Has Averaged 20 Yards A Game Thus Far. It's Looks Like They Don't Flip Our Corners Tho. Im Hoping For An Adjustment Sunday

Your thoughts on Philbins comments regarding Dion Jordan practice habits, was he taking a shot at the rookie or was he talking about how his injury has been slowing him during practice, he was asked a question about Dion, he came out and said that he's " practicing better", he was then asked what has been his difference since his arrival, Philbin responded with, he's practicing better, then the there was some other question I couldn't make out, but Philbins final answer was "definitely"

Did you happen to catch the interview?
