Seems like Joe was a lot more fired up after in the post game speech after the Colts win, than he was today. This game may have actually been more emotionally draining.

I think too often people look at play calling and what not and make a determination based off of that whether you can coach or not.

The biggest key for a head coach, IMO, is your ability to communicate and your ability to get the team to buy into what you are doing. This team has bought into what Joe Philbin is coaching, and that is a credit to him as a communicator and as a coach.

As a coach, you do not see Joe Philbin get to high or too low, and his players respond to that and take on that demeanor. You don't see Joe scratching his head trying to figure out what to do. He and this coaching staff have a plan for everything. There is no panic. There is no deer in the headlights look. They don't have to try to hide themselves by wearing sunglasses on the side lines.

Philbin's post game locker room speeches are getting better and better. One of my favorite moments of the week (when they win). Looking more and more like this team has the right coach and the right QB.

I'd also recommend everyone listen to his post game press conference. Good stuff there too. One thing that simply struck me in the conference, they asked him about the play call on the touchdown pass from Tannehill to Sims on 2nd and goal. He says something to the effect of: If the play isn't there for Ryan, we still have a play OR TWO to get the score.

Now, am I the only one that thinks he is possibly thinking about going for it on fourth down, had the game come to that? Truth be told, I did say in the game thread that we needed to go for the win on that final drive. With the time of possession heavily in favor of the Falcons, if we tie instead at 23 and the game goes to overtime, usually at home and with the kicker advantage, that's not a bad play, but we had guys sucking wind out there on defense. Hey, I'm glad it didn't come to that of course... but I'm also taking solace that Joe Brass Ones Philbin is thinking ahead just in case. Go for the win!!!

watch the press conference if you haven't already... a lot of stuff to work on for New Orleans. And I love that... not too high after a win, and not too low after a loss..

 Agree about Philbin for sure. His no-nonsense approach is just what the phins have needed after a long losing streak. Seems to be the polar opposite of say Rex Ryan. From his speeches, you really get the vibe of "OK fellas, this is what winning is - i've done alot of it, let me show you how to keep this up." And to top it off, does it with class.

T-Hill - He definitely showed some issues with standing in the pocket too long, or lack of pocket awareness (the announcer couldn't stop talking about it) but he still played well - he's accurate. When he drops back, I expect a completion. Been a LONG time since i've felt that way. It recent years, i've generally been squeezing my cheeks everytime our QB dropped back .

two different teams of course... Reggie Bush was still playing for them... funny to think about it that way. And Bess was still playing for us. And Chad Henne :pity:

We definitely need Patterson and Soliai back if we're gonna' compete with the Saints, especially in the Super Dome.

Who knows, but we aren't judged on how well our coach gives speeches, as long as we get the W on the field then I couldn't care on how he gives his speeches.

The announcer (Tim Ryan, a former Falcon player) can suck a bag. Tannehill had pressure most of the game (Nolan, our former DC) and guys coming thru the gaps up the middle around Jerry and Pouncey (who had an ankle injury), Thomas blowing pass protection as he always seems to be starring at Jerry's fat *** and missing guys running right by him. Sims looked absolutely clueless at times, and letting Osi blow by him for a sack and fumble was inexcusable. WTH did he the Osi was lined up out there for? Not for a tickling match, for damn sure.

Tannehill does tend to hold it too long at times, but not every other damn snap as Tim Ryan just kept going on about and Tannehill has to have time to get the ball from under Center and complete his drop back and setup. The announcer was talking out his *** half the time and both of them were unaware of Wallace having a groin injury and talking smack about how the Fins weren't using Wallace deep. They should have read the damn injury report and stayed on Jerry and Clabo.

And ya know...don't give me no "The falcons had so many injuries, crap!" Us not having Wake and Soliai is like them not having Julio Jones and T-Gon...for their mere presence and domination.

Don't give me that **** boy!!

Those guys lined up for them!

snelling/rodgers definitely added something to their offense that jackson would not have given them. I think their injuries might have helped their gameplan.

Those are the same announcers that stated Miami better hurry at the 4:30 mark down by 3...when it was quite the opposite in my mind...take your time, burn the clock and let's score a TD. Boom that is what they did, thing of beauty. I personally think there were times when Atlanta confused Ryan, but for the most part it was our sieve OL that was getting him sacked in this game.

I didn't like some of the 2nd and 10 calls. They went I formation several times after getting nothing on first down. Seemed backwards to me. And Thigpen really frustrates me. He had a nice, tough fair catch on a punt, but on that last KO don't bring the ball out from that deep especially when time is key. They cd have used that time and run a play before the two minute warning.

I know you are mostly kidding, but if I might defend Philbin on the cue card, he obviously hasn't written everything down line for line. He has bullet points that he wants to hit. Several coaches (including the one in NE) write notes during the game to bring up at halftime or afterwards. I think it speaks to him wanting to make sure he hits every point and not forget something important more than anything else.
