Doesn't Denney already have three big plays on special teams now?

Related here; it is hard to make the final 3-5 places on a roster because we can not see the full squad on special teams. In the preseason we know the full three or four deep on offense and defense but outside of the kickers, the long snapper, an odd tackler here and there, and the gunners, we don't know who is lining up where on the coverage teams. I remember one of the beat writers saying on the day before the cut down to 53 that Jones was making the team because of his special team prowess. I still didn't think it would happen.

Jason Terry isn't the only person to get killed by a Miami player.

One or two guys have had a running, 2-3 yr discussion about it.

Oh my goodness, you do, I really do not wish to call anyone out by name.

This is one of the reasons why you keep "ST only" guys, they make stuff happen during those 400 plays ST is involved in per yr.

Don Jones is probably a bad Safety, he is one heck of a STer

I wouldn't sleep on him at safety. Never know. Reshad Jones looked awful at first and now he's near pro bowl level. Don't sleep on the coaching staff and developing players, something we've lacked in recent years.

I am not sure about that. In college, at a lower level school, he was pretty darned good. Lined up at corner or safety. His progression into playing defense in the league may just take a little longer.

More impressive......Jones fought off a double team to make that play.

Great article on the whole play:

I was not happy he made the roster either, but getting just one play like that in a season from any bottom three guy earns him his spot.

#36 hasn't been a hugely popular number for the Dolphins... Lousaka Polite... Stanley Pritchett come to mind... both were crowd favorites.

I also remember Don Jones' first punt coverage play of the Falcons game. Philbin brought it up in his weekly interview on the Finsiders. Jones really came flying in hard at full speed but couldn't control himself. The special teams mentality is just so different from offense or defense. There's just no fear on guys that are special team standouts. The spacing is different. Kasim Osgood, one of the all time greatest special teams players... but that doesn't translate to him as a wide receiver. Which positional players have the best chance of translating from special teams to offense/defense? Would have to think safety is up there on the list. Wide receiver towards the bottom. Speaking about non returners.

Jones supposedly can play cb or safety. I think he may have to contribute given the defensive back injury situation. He gives the team good roster flexibility if he can play at a reasonably competent level.

Is it just me or does Don Jones look the same size as Jelani Jenkins?

    Jenkins is a small kid.

I don't think we have seen the last of impact plays from Mr Don Jones this season. He'd already flashed in the first two games, and then the hit on Douglas. Mmmmm.

It's you. At the Ark State Pro Day, Jones was 5111 and 191. At the combine, Jenkins was 6004 and 243. They are about an inch difference in height, and I suppose Jones could have gained 50 lbs since his pro day or Jenkins lost 50, or they gained and lost a combination of 50 lbs between them to reach the same current weight.
Naw, I'm gonna go with the "it's just you" choice.

Not long before that play, Harry Douglas was overheard telling Don Jones that Gatorade was better than water, and that water really really sucked.

Fixed. Sorry man, I just had to do it. That was sacrilege to misspell her name. :)

I hope not. My hope is that he becomes one of those STs aces.
