Playoffs baby!! 1 more win or TB loss to win the AL East. Magic number for best record in baseball is, if my math is correct, 5 now. The Sox starting pitching has been unbelievable in the month of September, would you believe that they have only 1 loss in the month so far? And that was a 3-0 Lackey loss to the Tigers. 8 games left. First thing is to get/keep everyone healthy, second is to line up the rotation for October and finally of course is to get that #1 seed.
AL East Champions baby! Whata ride from way back to September of 2011 to last year's disaster to this year's wonderfully refreshing team. I'm just going to sit back and enjoy having to watch meaningful October baseball for the first time since 2009.
Careful Carl, don't injure yourself.... http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-b...verpaid-immature-arrogant-191033319--mlb.html
Hey do you realize there are 3 year olds in New England right now that have never seen the Sox in the playoffs? THINK OF THE CHILDREN DAMMIT! And yes I realize how silly the "since 2009" statement is to fans of teams like KC, Pittsburgh, Miami, Houston etc sound.
my nephew has never seen the Yankees in the playoffs... Granted hes never seen a Dolphin loss either, so you take the good, you take the bad, ou take them both and there you have The Facts of Life! granted hes only 6th months...
Some 5 year old's have never seen the Sox win the series. How do they still nap.. Pretty excited about the Sox chances in the playoffs. If the pitching can keep it going and Koji is just half of what he has been the Sox will go far. Those bats won't be held back.
Haha so true. I remember watching the 2007 WS with you and In Flames in an online chat room talking about the games. Good times. Anyway Sox have a 1 game lead on Oakland for best record in the AL with 5 games each team. I really want that home field advantage. The Sox luckily are in the driver's seat and have their pitching lined up nicely. Although I wonder who the Sox best opponents for the playoffs would be.
Yup that was good times, I was at a very low point in life then and those were some good nights. I look forward to some playoff talk this year. Been busy but still been following my Sox, even though I live with a Braves fan. Give me the Indians. I know they are hot but I would rather not face Darvish, even Kazmir doesn't scare me anymore.
Yeah I agree, I'd rather face Cleveland over any of the others in that short series. I don't think the Indians have the pitching to shut the Sox down. If the Sox want best record in the AL, they pretty much have to win out. I believe Oakland holds almost all of the tie breakers. Sox are up 1 game with 4 left. Hopefully they just win out so we don't have to scoreboard root. But hey go Angels and Mariners anyway.
If TB plays in the 4/5 game and wins, do the Sox play them 1st round or is there the whole "cant play Division in the 1st round" rule still?
I believe the rule no longer exists. I may be wrong though. Also, Rays are coming to play when it matters. I'm very surprised how they have played the past week. Moore needs to step it up though if we have any chance in an actual series.
The number 1 seed will play the wild card winner now no matter what, so it doesn't matter if they're from the same division. Which is how it always should have been in the first place.
No surprise Pedroia needs surgery on his thumb after the season, which he injured in the first game of the year (on a stupid slide into 1st base in the 8th or 9th inning if I remember correctly). Kind of amazing he has played in 157 games this year, besides from the dip in power you probably wouldn't even have noticed anything was wrong. http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/b...dustin-pedroia-ready-weather-some-pain-ultima
Baller......from the Jeter mold of play through everything although that catches up with you as you get older.....
Yeah it certainly does, but it seems at least for now Pedroia has the ability to play through the pain and produce, much like Jeter. Thankfully none of these injuries have been serious enough where he had to miss an extended period of time. But I do think he needs to be smarter as he gets older and realize the game and situation, but I'm sure it's easier said then done when you're in a game moment.
Won't happen Fink, these guy are gamers...fire in the belly type guys, go hard all the time and take no days off types...... They wont admit any injuries, dont speak of them like literally to the point when eventually you shatter your ankle on a routine grounder....... You can only put so much pressure on a gasket before it goes you know....
I love guys like Pedroia and Jeter who play hard all the time and play through injuries and I don't mind players playing hard but there's a difference to playing hard and playing smart. When your team is up 8-2 in the top of the 9th with 2 outs in the 1st game of the season I see no real reason or point to dive head first into first base to try and get an infield single. He's lucky that the injury wasn't worse or he would have missed 8 weeks of the season.
Oh I agree, but their mentality is to play one way all the time.....pretty remarkable if you ask me..... Like for instance I often used to say how I in no way want to be in a managers shoes when say you have to tell Jeter (back then) or DP now "You are out today" Torre's wrote about it in his book about how that he knew it was a 30 min process of telling Jeter he is sitting....he would get mad, then try to finagle his way into the lineup somehow.... Same with going to get a pitcher off the mound....some pitchers dont like that at all....must be pretty hard when you tell firebrand competitors that it is over for the day...
I agree with that. Lackey is a perfect example of someone that never wants to come out of games. People used to think he was showing his manager up by arguing with them to stay in. If you ask me that's exactly what I want out of my pitcher.
Yeah you are right Lackey does do that alot.....Eck always talks about it as well.... I like Eck, I almost want him to replace Remy, dont get me wrong Remy is cool but he is also hot air most of the time as well...
Big win last night, especially with the A's losing earlier in the day. Sox now up 2 games with 3 to go. Just take 2 out of 3 in Baltimore and call it a season until next Friday.
Yeah the Sox will have their staff set up. Its going to be Buchholz, Lester and Lackey in Baltimore which would set up Lester and Lackey to pitch Game 1 and 2 and Buchholz, giving him extra rest, to play in Game 3 with Peavy most likely in Game 4. I heard Farrell is going to give the team an off day Monday then have 3 straight days of intrasquad games to keep the team fresh. It's kind of dumb they have to sit around for 4 straight days but the only good thing is the WC team's ace would only pitch in 1 game, most likely Game 3 unless they plan to pitch him on short rest.
Just one person's list but John Sickels has 5 Sox prospects in the top 58 and a total of 8 prospects in his top 113. Pretty damn good year in the minors (and majors) for the Sox: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013...ue-ball-top-75-prospects-end-of-season-update
Just a great year for the Sox. Best record and team in the AL, possibly baseball and a fun team to watch and root for. Have home field wrapped up for all of the playoffs. It's possible on Friday when they start the ALDS they could be playing a team that's played 4 straight elimination games.
Looks like the Sox will get Darvish, Moore, Jimenez on Fri night. I am still rooting for the Indians. Pretty pumped for baseball this week.
Yeah I'm rooting for Cleveland too mainly because of Francona and Masterson. Would love to see Nelson Cruz hit a walk off HR off of Rodney tonight just to see the internet explode. If the Sox don't win the WS I'm rooting for a Cleveland/Pittsburgh match up.
This is where you will see Tampa's strength their pitching, Price wasn't hearing it last night.....good job, now Cobb needs to keep the Indians at bay, and playoff clutch God Longo hopefully delivers again....
Scary is if the Rays beat Cleveland Price will be able to pitch in game 2 and 5 on normal rest. That's scary. Price didn't even have dominate stuff last night, I think he only had 5 or 6 swings and misses in his over 100 pitches but his movement is just so good. Will definitely be rooting hard for Cleveland. The Rays scare me because of those arms, plain and simple.
