The day John Abraham completely destroyed Jake in I think the first game of his third season, I knew he wasnt as good as he was supposed to be. Elite tackles do not get literally demolished the way he did on that play. Just a friggin embarrassment.
Long was a great prospect and a great LT, but injuries robbed him of the quickness to be an elite player. It's been obvious the last two seasons that he is nowhere near the player he used to be. Yet some people people spent all off-season bashing the team for not paying him $10 mil/per. If you were one of those you should slap yourself in the face for everyone of those negative posts.
Our running game would be a lot better with Long here, but he's always been an average pass blocker. Overall, we stayed about the same and saved 30 million to get the same production.
Here's a nice pic.. Granted, it's against DeMarcus Ware, but that still pretty rough. Long ends up on his butt and Ware gets the sack.
IMO Jakes career was shortened by Sparanos insistence that he should play through his injuries during the laters lame duck year .He hasnt been the same player since that year.
Don't say that.... Couple reasons.... 1) none of us here can really discern who is responsible for what moves when both were here. They made them based on the tenet that Parcells had laid out, right-wrong-indifferent. Still some can't believe that if a move was made and Ireland wore the hat he was wearing then, that he could have swayed Quitcells for or against a particular move. 2) Who is to say that Ryan would have been as good here? We certainly don't now, nor did then have the team he has had around him. It's impossible to tell that. Just like it's impossible to tell if Saban had chosen Brees over Culpepper that things would have been significantly better. Unfortunately, we just can't look at these moves from a "grass is greener on the other side" viewpoint. 3) The principles of how to build a team for Philbin are much different than those of how Quitcells/Sparano wanted. I think, so far, Ireland has done a good job of bringing in guys that fit for Philbin, but the jury is still out. 4) Even if it were Quitcells choices and not Ireland, some here will never be swayed to thinking differently...
You've been wrong since 2011, and it's really kind of silly. Jake Long wasn't being babysat, he was asked to block on an island as much as any franchise left tackle out there. He didn't get a ton of help, and it's really silly to suggest he did.
Long looks like dog**** in that putrid Rams uniform.. Dumb *** would have looked so much better in the aqua and orange with new logo.
This was an extension from what was happening in preseason, it was really ugly there.. I thought DPates analysis was interesting saying that he's compensating for his loss of quickness and exaggerating his kickslide even more so than he used to, thus leaving his balance off center.
No I haven't, and no it's not. Like I said. Watch the games. They're available. But please, continue to dispute Dan Henning leaving in more blockers than any other team in the league by a wide margin. And continue to dispute that leaving in extra blockers doesn't help the LT out I'm giving you evidence that Jake Long was certainly not on an Island in Henning's offense as much as he was under Sherman or Dabboll and your response is basically yes he was. It's silly to suggest he was, which is what you're doing. Is this how people who refuse to admit they're wrong argue? I could go back through games and count 1v1 battles, but you'd still refuse to admit you're wrong. ....I remember one game where Long was dominant against a good pass rusher. @Minnesota vs. Jared Allen. Crushed him the entire game
I'm actually more interested in whether or not Sean Smith has turned the corner in KC. Anyone have his PFF grades?
We should also be thankful that Fischer decided that St Louis was the better opportunity over us. Pretty damn happy over that one myself.
This post is almost reaching "moved" Im not bothered. Its gone. Move on. Long was damn good when we drafted him. He got some injuries, they have caught up and its there for us to see. I liked seeing #77 as protection for our QB. He was a rock. Few seasons later, injuries and big ones imo regarding a LT caught up. He's didnt choose Miami. That was his choice. I personally don't take any joy seeing gifs of Jake getting put on his ***. To me that's a bit sad. He was better than that. It is what it is. Move on guys. Seriously.
Here's a .GIF https://lh3.ggpht.com/-1EVNIAgJxZ0/UkLUth_7xgI/AAAAAAAAECc/CfFEV3NQhok/s1600/Ware+Sack.gif
Agreed. I wanted Philbin over Fisher and I wanted Long replaced so I owe St. Louis a debt of gratitude for their contribution.
Jake Long has not been JAKE LONG for a while.Injuries caught up with him but he was awesome when he was drafted.
I seem to remember the only major injury he played through was the torn labrum (happened in 2010 against TEN I believe) in the Bears game where it took us a full half to get past the 50 with Thigpen. I am pretty sure once the lower body injuries came, he got shut down fairly early.
He's the #2 guy in K.C. with 1 INT and 1 pass blocked. Targeted 17 times. Allowed 7 catches for 77 yards. PFF rating: 21 We basically let go of a #2 CB making $6 mill a year for PFF's #1 CB making less. He's credited with 2 small positive games and a slightly larger bad game against Dallas which is where most of those catches happened.
Jake missed 7 snaps in the Dallas game. Before that he played every snap. Max Starks played in his place for those snaps. Right now he is rated 20th overall OT by PFF.
They rank him 20th overall, but what is really impressive is the QB rating on passes into his coverage is 30.8, the second lowest among corners. He's been thrown at 17 times, and allowed 7 catches for a 41.2 comp pct. That is 7th lowest among corners. So up to now, he is earning his free agent contract.
The season was lost .The logical thing to do would have been to rest him to give him time to recover from his injuries so that he could be effective the following year. But Sparano was on the way out and he didnt care about Jakes long time health as a franchise LT . He also made sure we didnt suck enough for Luck....I dont blame him for that.He was looking for a new job. Call it Tonys revenge if you will .
Haha! I turned on the rams cowboys game last week and it was perfect timing.Ware planted the much bigger long right on his *** while he was rushing the passer. Its rare you see a man that size get abused like that by a smaller man.Long is not worth anywhere near what the rams are paying him.Not to mention he is still getting hurt.We lost nothing.
I agree. He was a great LT prior to suffering injuries over the last two seasons he played for the Dolphins. Because of the injuries and his below average play over the past two seasons, the Dolphins are fortunate that they didn't end up signing him to a huge contract. Giving Ireland credit for this though sort of goes against what was being reported in the off season. It was reported that the Rams offers was only slightly higher than the Dolphins and Long just decided to take that offer. The Dolphins were still offering him far more than he is worth at this time. They were just lucky that the Rams were desperate enough to outbid them, or else the Dolphins would have been paying a below average LT over eight million dollars a year. Ireland actually was lucky the Rams were willing to take Long off his hands. Because according to reports Ireland wanted Long to remain a Dolphin and was willing to overpaid him to stay here. We should be thanking the Rams for saving the Dolphins millions of dollars in cap space.
my eyes play tricks. thought it said how's jake long dong. But then I saw it wasn't DJ's thread and realized I must have misread. I kid. I kid. I'm sure DJ thinks exclusively about Wake's dong.
Er... yes, I have a dong. That's part of not being a girl. lol. I have not measured the Long dong. Also, they have Chris Long, so you need to be careful not to get the wrong Long or you'll have the wrong Long dong.
Once Jake tore the Labrum and Biceps on his left arm he lost his punch and that was his best weapon...now he is an absorb blocker that uses his big body to try and catch the rusher instead of meeting and delivering a shot.. He has done a decent job changing his game but it shouldn't have been needed this early in his career.
it was 4 years 34 million with incentives it could be pushed to 36 million, 16 million guaranteed, 4 million more if he is on the 2014 roster, so that makes it 20 million
