I was keeping balance..because the criticisms that were coming in we're not fair for what I felt a proper timeline should of been given considering how I felt about parcells departure, all the parcells/ireland variables, and the signing and arriving of a new coach, and given the three and 0 start, those threads were justified as they were only to acknowledge that the harsh criticisms may of been unjust at the time..
Just my opinion, and just talking to those that wanted him fired, I think how the fanbase criticizes the team can affect the culture..If I don't think it's fair criticism, then I'll speak up, sometimes when I do it, folks just chalk it up to homerism, well, 3 and 0 baby says fu&$ That, 2nd in cap space in the NFL, says what you got to say again?, and being top 10 in youth says maybe you better think twice before you criticize your team..

I wasn't criticizing. I was saying that I can probably think right off the top of my head of three or four threads you started to that effect. And probably three or four more started by Todd.

Meanwhile, I know that LBsFinest has probably started half a dozen threads of his own in direct criticism of Jeff Ireland, but I'm honestly having trouble remembering the last time ANY thread was started that was just a direct criticism of Jeff Ireland by anyone aside from him.

Bottom line is I say what I mean and I mean what I say. Rafael claimed that the positive threads about Ireland were a "drop in the bucket" compared to the number of negative ones, and my response was I would be very surprised if that were actually true. Then he said there have been "very few" positive Ireland threads, and again I say that's just blatantly untrue because I can remember more than just a "very few" of them (which to me would imply like, two).

I'm not sure if your using the word "thread" as your basis for disagreement... I would disagree with the premise that support was on par with the criticism, the last two years favored an inordinate amount of criticism on all the boards, radio stations and any kind of opinionated forum.

it's not really overstating it IF the trend continues through the year. I don't thing Gibson's stats are a big upgrade over Bess right now, but he does seem to be a better fit for this offense. Besides that, I anticipate that we'll get a few big plays from Gibson this year for TDs that Bess would not be able to do. Bess was a very good receiver between the 20s, but vanished in the redzone.

For a long time I would say you'd have been hard pressed to find any positive thread about Ireland. I found myself avoiding the forum for weeks at a time b/c all I saw were negative threads in general and most of them related to Ireland either originally or that's where they lead. Finally, this off-season I started to see some positive threads, but I would still call them a drop in the bucket compared to negative threads that have dominated this forum for the last few years. And while yes there was more than just threads, every time somebody printed a negative article (of which we've had no shortage) somebody would link it here and offer it as proof to support their previous negative threads.

I'm not sure where CK was going, or what position he was defending, do know that folks who bashed Ireland are no where to be found, must suck for them..

Their favorite team that they bleed for is winning games. God damn they must be miserable.

That's not what you originally said.

    EDIT: Nm, CK covered it.

As for Gibson/Bess. Gibson's played very well. But was it any different than Bess the past few years? It's way too early to tell, but does it look more like a lateral move than an upwards one? We'll find out by the end of the year. Either way, Gibson has played well. That's all that matters for now.

Let's not forget Bess had Brandon Weeden throwing at him. But finally has a legit receiver alongside to take some heat off of him (Gordon).

Well then they don't have a conscious....just spew garbage all offseason, without an understanding of how the words could hurt the culture, families, then come to find out their wrong and pretend nothing happened..screw that, admit you were wrong, take the hit, and think twice next time..especially those in the local media.

There a difference between calm logical criticisms and ignorant vitriol with no regard.

I remember when folks were tearing apart his character, in one instance, in defense of the guy I posted articles on how he took care of his autistic children, and how difficult of job that must be and still run a pro football team..didn't matter, lack of class run rampant, how bout the folks going out and picketing to have him fired, how bout ones that were cheering them on from a far, like I said, no regard for what kind of damage that can do to a family, or a football culture, tell you what, not having a sellout in your home opener after going 2 and 0 tells me all I need to know..

    I've oscillated on Ireland:

    -happy in 08-09
-happy then doubtful in 2010 (B Marshall)
-Disenchanted in 2011, not over Matt Moore, whom I really like as a starting Qb, more the sleezy Harbaugh/Ross's Big Adventure shenanigans
-FINALLY..2012...he put his nut sack out and drafted Tannehill AND took more chances in the draft on Athletes not blue collar players

I think you get good and bad with Ireland, he can find talent cheaply, he can also piss veterans off who are going into Free Agency and sometimes he gets to cute by half.

Yet you actively foment the very discord you lament.

Fans have a right to have feelings about their team and various parts of it, whether they feel a part of it is dysfunctional and needs replacing or what. They quite literally pay for that right.

What right have you paid for to go after your fellow fans with such vitriol? You've now tossed out, what like 7 distinct personal attacks on a segment of fans you either don't have the knowledge of or the will to personally confront or name? What goods or services did you exchange for the right to question them in such disrespectful manner?

I don't instigate, that's the difference..just think some folks should be more careful when they criticize their team, for I feel the words have more damage than you obviously realize.

I don't know what you'd consider instigating then.

It just sounds like you want your pound of flesh. Here the Dolphins are, winning three games to start the season including two against playoff teams from a year ago. The fan base is all almost unanimously happy. The crowd showed up for the home game and they were noisy and supportive. This should be what you want. But you're unhappy. You want your pound of flesh from all those who didn't like parts of the team when they were 7-9, 7-9, 6-10 and 7-9. You seem like you WANT them to be unhappy about the team's success, like that idea makes you happy. That to me is sewing the exact discord you lament.

your funny man, you brought me into your debate with Rafs, after you pointed out that your tired of folks spinning threads into Ireland's GM skills, I said nothing up until that point, then when you said DJ started a few threads supporting the GM, I simply explained my position as to why I did so, and that was to create some balance within the discussion, if you remember my posts during this offseason you would of known that I took a somewhat neutral stance in the discussion, I didn't trash anyone who was angry at Ireland, for I said my self that if Ireland didn't produce a better record this year than last than he shouldn't be retained, I said that we should know by midseason whether to keep or extend him by the look of the team, but when your picketing outside the building, or supporting such things, or calling his character into question, I would simply point out that the Parcells variables should be looked at closely, and that the vitriol goin on was going to be damaging to the culture and fanbase regardless if he was the right or wrong man for the job.

If Folks have the right to sh&$ on the team, talk sh&$ About individuals involved with the team, when the team is down and searching for the right answers, with no regard, while eventually being wrong in the process, then I have the right to say my peace.

I'm glad everyone is happy, but your not gonna tell me that what happened this offseason didn't damage the culture of this franchise, the media and parts of the fanbase taking their shots on Ireland affected a lot, I only hope we learn a lesson to not be so quick to judge and to protect the culture even if we disagree with some things in the way we express ourselves, for I believe to grow something special, you have to have the right kind of support..

I think Ireland has really made some strides. Gibson was a great signing and gives us a more athletic slot receiver. Between drafting Pouncy and RTH, to signing the biggest FA in last years class to putting together a lot of contributors and potential game changers in this years draft, this team is really coming around. The crazy thing is they are still very young. Give this team a couple more years of playing together and learning how to win and we are going to be one of the best teams in the NFL for awhile. We have a QB, playmakers, a great DL, guys that can rush the passer and safeties that can make plays. Once our OL soilidifies, this team will be as good as anyone.
