List your favorite shows & mini series I'm just about to watch the finale of BROADCHURCH, which has been fantastic.
Alphas isn't bad. Although, Misfits puts it to shame as far as characters with special powers go IMO.
Definitely. Daniels is phenomenal. Spacey gives an impressive, similar type performance in House of Cards. I think anyone who's a fan of Newsroom would be a big fan of House of Cards.
Got introduced to Trailer Park Boys this past weekend. Man oh man that show is great. Season one takes some getting use to..but if you get past season 1, you get hooked.
Hey Tony, tell you what, if you start watching 'The Fall' & 'Rake' so that we have something to talk about, I'll catch up on GoT. Season 1 of The Fall only has 5 episodes so it's not asking a lot.... and anyone who doesn't thoroughly get into Rake [the Australian version] needs a brain enema. It's a must watch show.
Finished up House of cards. House of cards was fantastic. Really excited for season 2. I saw the first 2 eps of The fall... I just can't seem to get into it. I don't know why. Love Gillian Anderson too (X-Files is a favorite of mine). Will add Rake to my list of shows to watch. just read a summary of the concept. Seems interesting.
anyone here watch The League? I've watched the new episodes this year, just wondering if it's worth going back and watching the older seasons on NetFlix
One of my all-time favorites is "Life" with Damian Lewis and Sarah Shahi. It's on Netflix and I definitely recommend it.
Yeah, pretty funny. Not every episode is great, but there is usually something in every episode that makes you crack up
Really good show and premise, but how long could it have gone on? I don't really see it being cancelled as a bad thing.
For me, The Fall took a couple episodes.... but I believe by Episode 4 it gets into a cat and mouse between Gillian Anderson & the killer once she realizes it's him. Rake is similar in style to Californication. Similar type protagonists- witty, comical, obnoxious, eloquently spoken, self-assured, enjoys bringing disaster upon himself, and does his fair share of booze, drugs, and philandering..... plus he's entertaining as hell when he's actually in court. Richard Roxborough, the lead actor, is phenomenal, enough so that it'll probably be like fingernails across a chalkboard trying to watch Greg Kinear try to duplicate the performance when the U.S version comes out.
Then you have GOT to watch Misfits. It's like American Pie meets the movie Chronicle. R-rated show about kids getting special powers after a storm. Has an 8.3 rating out of 48,000 viewers on IMDb if that means anything.
My only problem with all these shows is getting the wife to go along with it. Does your life partner watch all this stuff with you?
Best description I've heard yet of Misfits! I've got Sleepy Hollow and The Blacklist downloaded and ready to watch, looking forward to both. I'm also going to check out CW's Tomorrow People because it's a remake of a show I loved when I was a kid, but I don't have a lot of hope for that tbh. Have watched the first couple of episodes of Agents of SHIELD, and it's ok, but not going to be one that I HAVE to watch every week by any means. Looking forward to Almost Human next month too. For another UK television series that some of you might not have had heard of, check out Utopia. First season was 6 episodes, as a lot of our seasons are, and it could have ended after that if necessary, but it's been confirmed for a 2nd season so there's more to come if you enjoy the first season. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2384811/?ref_=sr_1
Utopia sounds interesting... and it's pretty highly rated,so I'll probably give it a go soon. Almost Human looks like it has potential. By off chance did you get to watch 'Top of the Lake' yet? An impressive handful of Emmy nominations including Best Miniseries, Writing, Cinematography, Casting, Directing, Lead Actress, and Supporting Actor. It's just shy of 6 hours total and was as, if not more, enjoyable than any movie I've seen this year. Cinemax's 'Banshee' was pretty fun in a 'Road House' sort of way. Looking forward to season 2.
I really like Sleepy Hollow, but that doesn't mean its a quality show when it comes down to the details. Its one of the more ballsy American shows, because of the whole mixing American history with Biblical apocalypse and the occult, while having it star a black female (possibly two)....and a guy with a British accent all wrapped up in a horror movie aesthetic. Its not perfect, its anachronistic while also being the opposite of that at the same time. But its just so damn ballsy and interestingly ambitious that it deserves an audience.
Still not got around to Top of the Lake yet, have a backlog of stuff to watch tbh! Just finished Banshee, which is fun as you say, full of implausibilities but good to watch. On the third season of Justified, so trying to make my way through that to catch up before the next season.
Anyone watch BBC's 2011 miniseries 'Shadow Line'? I'm on the 5th of 7 episodes and can't wait to see how it ends. Crime/mystery/thriller. Has a smidge of a Coen brothers feel to it, in a good way. To me this is much better viewing than watching 4 random Netflix movies.
I watched it, was pretty good as far as I remember. Christopher Ecclestone's a good actor, I've liked him ever since I saw him in Cracker about 20 years ago and I can't remember ever being disappointed watching him in a role since.
Finished 'Shadow Line' last night. Thought it was well worth its Writer's Guild Award for Best Television Drama Series. Agree on Ecclestone. Felt the cast was outstanding and did a great job of sucking the viewer into the show's world. To me it's rare to see so many characters possessing this level of allure & personality.
The eye scene had me squirming in my seat and wanting to look away, and the school scene was a difficult one to watch. Apparently the makers were all ready for a mass outcry about the school scene, but in the end it was only the Daily Mail that complained - and there's nothing unusual about that, so it was mainly ignored. The last season of Misfits started here last night, I've not watched it yet as will probably just wait and watch a few at a time.
yeah the school scene was ballsy.... but I thought it was a necessary evil in establishing the extend "The Network" will go to. I might wait for Misfits to finish and have myself a marathon.
The new season of Sherlock is to air on 19th January in the US...but still no date for it airing on the BBC although it's almost certain to air shortly before the 19th over here. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/s1...ock-series-3-to-air-in-january-in-the-us.html
Claymore, I watched the first 4 episodes of "Misfits" final season. Did.not.disappoint. So far is proving to be a fantastic finale IMO. These idiots here who refuse to watch the show need to check themselves befo they be wreckin' themselves, knowwhatImsayin G.
I've only watched the first episode so far, was good though and just need to make time to watch the rest. Rudy's as funny as ever, him and Nathan in the first few seasons have made the show IMO. Looking forward to new shows for 2014, really can't wait for True Detective on HBO, think it's going to be a great show, especially with the makers getting the likes of Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey to star.
Yeah Rudy is just outstanding. I'm really gonna miss him once the show is over. Not often I say that about a character. LOL at the power Neil was given and how he had to use it on Finn. Pretty ballsy of the show but laughed my *** off, especially hearing Rudy get his jabs in afterward. Abbey- [to Neil] Did you get community service for f*****g him up the a** or for breaking and entering the community center? Neil--- breaking and entering. Rudy-- breaking and entering his sphincter- BOOM! Finn--- We all know what happened! I think we're mature enough to brush it under the carpet. as far as it'll go. not just under the carpet, under the underling under the carpet! Neil--- ...where things go when there's no need to speak about them or think about them ever again. Jess--- [to Finn] So how come he didn't take your telekinesis? Finn--- I guess it's last in, first out. Rudy-- ..of his sphincter- BOOM! Here's a hilarious Rudy memory to reminisce {NSFW} that'll be on my must watch list. What a duo to lead the series, eh.
You sure? Harrelson and McConaughey have played cops before...doesn't that mean it will suck and be derivative?
You'd have to remind me which movies those were. I'm having difficulty remembering amidst their expansive diversity of roles over the years.
Hey Clay, I'm getting ready to start season 3 of The Inbetweeners. Has all the fun vulgarity of Misfits and then some. Too bad the US doesn't offer this sort of R-rated comedy show stuff.
