Wallace isn't really a $60 million receiver...we just had to give him that much out of desperation because we can't find any playmakers in the draft.

Personally not feeling good about Philbin's answers in that article. Philbin's been touted as an offensive genius of some sort but he sounds very unimaginative ... It's early but seeds of doubt are sowing ...
sad thing is you don't have to be Norv Turner to realize that moving Wallace around can create favorable matchups.
I actually agree with you with on this... Despite the offseason talk from Philbin and Sherman, there is a noticeable lack of creativity from the offense. The split receivers hardly ever go in motion. Sherman has Tannehill mostly doing three step drops and quick passes. Opposing Corners are pressing them and throwing the timing off or jumping routes when we run the same thing one time to many. ADAPT, change it up. Sherman isn't doing this. Sherman also can’t decide if he wants to run or pass in each game. The OLine often doesn't look good, but as the stats show, they aren’t as bad as they often look. The offense simply has no identity and then they put it all on Tannehill to win the game. Sherman is starting to feel like Hennings in that regard. We heard all off season how this was going to be a fast paced offense - and yet we haven’t seen it. Monday night was the first time we have seen the no huddle outside of a two minute drill. The game has changed, you have to throw to set up the run. Not sure Sherman has adapted to that. Miami has the weapons to work within today’s rules and game - freaking use them. The Saints and the Brown pressed the receivers coming off the line in an attempt to try to disrupt the timing on the slants. Other teams will do this as well if they don't start mixing it up. I would love to see them send Wallace and/or Hartline in motion. The two split WR's currently never go in motion in this offense, and if they don’t start getting creative with Wallace he’s going to be a $60m bust as well.

That putz has his offense with roughly the same amount of ypg as us, higher scoring, with a questionable cast, and missing their WR1 for two games. It's early, but Norv is an accomplished OC. Head coach is not the same thing as OC. Some just aren't built for leading. I have to be honest. I'm no guru, but I had higher hopes from Philbin/Sherman. It's early, but the offense has been solid yet unimaginative. But what do I know (other than we never figured out how to use Reggie Bush ...) Who did Rivers become elite under anyway???
I don't think Philbin is a huge fan of the media. Most coaches aren't. So why do we expect him to expose his staff's mindset on where to line up players? When I read those answers I don't get the sense that Philbin is unimaginative. I get the sense that he has little interest in answering the questions and is just trying to get rid of the reporter.
But what he's saying matches up with what they're doing on the field. I never studied the Pitt offense but Wallace has said he's had to adjust to sitting on one side, which means he's been moved around in previous defenses. Wouldn't it make sense to force the defense to adjust, even if pre-snap? More potential for mixups and screwups. The gameplan is easier when all week you say, Wallace will be on this side. Always. Isn't it? Now, in Philbin's defense, he said he's doing this because in a hurry up/quick offense he wants to make it easy for people to know where they go. Fine. How is our offense in regards to tempo this year? Serious question.
I really can't say how much of an uptempo offense we have, but I can hardly recall us ever having a full huddle. It always seems like we're doing that sugar huddle even if we don't snap it early.
We didn't not figure out how to use Bush. It was more that we didn't have the personnel/want to run the kind of offense they do in DET to really cater to Bush's abilities. Add to that we're going in to week 5 and he's already had multiple injuries and missed a game.
Until Tannehill has time to actually scan the field and throw a deep pass - any criticism of Wallace is seriously flawed. The reality is, it's the OL. That's an issue. I like a lot of things that Ireland has done this off-season but he has drafted poorly with respect to O-linemen. But, until the OL gets better - criticism of Wallace is utterly shallow and superficial.
I really like Wallace's chances if we can get him lined up against Jimmy Smith tomorrow. He's physical as hell, but is vulnerable deep and is super-aggressive against double-moves. Webb's a stud on the other side, imo. But yea, probably comes back to time in the pocket - whether Clabo can handle Dumervil (biggest are of concern for me is this matchup on the right side, kinda scared for Tanny's well-being), Suggs vs Martin, and hopefully we can keep Ngata out of the backfield, which may entail some doubles. I'm expecting a pretty low scoring game with some sloppy offense, very good defense, and QBs under consistent duress.

They actually went outside of the box for this game except for some calls that turned out be major busts and game changers but i was crazy when i brought up unimaginative playcalling.
