It's not just the sacks, which are ridiculous. The running game has been pretty bad, especially horrible today with 22 yards and 2 yards per rush. It's putting all the pressure on Tannehill. It's dictating our ridiculous playcalling on 3rd and short. Just ****ing terrible. This reignites the Ireland discussions (if they ever stopped), or I guess the other possibility that it's the coaching staff. And that's an equally depressing conversation.
I disagree, he was clutch on that last drive. The pass to Gibson was a thing of beauty. The Sacks are on the O-line, and the drops are on the wideouts. As hard as I am on Tannehill it was not his fault in my opinion.
****. Fifteen years we search for a new franchise QB... we finally find him and we're gonna get him broken. Like a kid who doesn't know how to take care of nice stuff.
IMO Sherman is as much to blame as the OTs. We don't move the pocket, don't run draw plays, can't run effective screen plays. It's such a difficult position our OT are put in. The DL has the same aiming point every single pass play and doesn't have to be afraid of screens. Easy for the DL, diffcult for the OL.
I have been on the "Tannehill holds the ball too long," bandwagon, but today wasn't that day. That o-line was horrid and gave him no chance. We will be lucky if he stays healthy, let alone progresses as a franchise quaterback this year. And Sturgis HAD to miss that kick because Dolphins.
Sometimes, with Tannehill, his 'hero' gene costs us. Smart play is to get the ball out immediately, and throw it away if nothing is there. Do not risk the sack. With THIS Oline that is even MORE obvious. But he wants to win. Wants to get a TD. So he probably holds it what is a reasonable amount of time for most QBs, but not reasonable with our horrible Oline. And eats the sack. Moves Sturgis out of FG range. Costs us the game. Thanks OL (and Ryan)! Thanks WRs and TE for the drops! Thanks Sherm and Philbin! Thanks Irish for the non-moves on OL! This loss was truly an organizational effort.
The only reason Tannehill MAY survive is that the bye has arrived. SOmeone tweeted he has a big red mark on his back. Probably from where his prison-bull held him down as the other three Ravens D-linemen took turns on his lily *** while our Oline watched.
Must disagree with the Tannehill remarks. Why we spiked on first down is beyond me. The sack was all pass protection.
Great observation, the defense knows X marks the same spot on every pass play, they don't even have to look for him because they know where he will be.
Easier said than done, at this point, anyone who's out there as a free agent, isn't starter material, and likely isnt any better than Martin or Clabo. It is what it is, we're stuck with this line aside from a trade. Which is even more doubtful. We really should have been in on the Monroe deal. Maybe we were, who knows.
We need a "bonehead post of the day" award. Anyone trying to put this on T-hill today gets my vote. He is one of the very FEW reasons why we even had a shot at winning. Ravens D-line was tossing our linemen around like rag dolls and its Ryan fault? I am not in the mood to laugh, but that opinion cracked me up
Did anyone catch Lamar Miller throw a few empty phantom chip blocks on Baltimores edge rushers on that last drive? Little things lose games..I am disappointed in some of the players on this team and Miller has been right up there
I am not a Ireland hater but this is the 2nd year in a row that we have had a glaring weakness going into the season that was totally undressed and is costing the team big time.
People have been saying Ireland was going to be fired for years. I've lost hope of him being fired at this point.
This loss is on our offense. Our OL was an epic fail in run blocking and pass blocking. Multiple players dropped critical passes that could have changed this game. Wallace was the biggest culprit with 3 of them. RTH has got to learn to not completely fold under pressure. Yeah, he doesn't get a lot of help from the OL but he is also part of the problem. Outside of 1 drive, this offense was completely out of sync and was quite ineffective most of the game. You can't get field position after that fumble and settle for 3.
We have to develop a new gameplan on offense. We are going to have to move Tannhill out of the pocket with roll outs and use really quick drops/passes to compensate for the line. If we think we can play dropback and wait for receivers to get open then we will be a team that wins maybe 5 games. There has to be an adjustment, this offensive line isn't just going to get better through coaching or luck it is what it is.
Media myth? Ok. I like Tannehill a lot but he sees nothing around him in the pocket. Call it what you want but he has to improve drastically in the pocket. And yes, I know the line sucks as well.
Making a big time pass on 4th and 10 (where he had to escape the pocket to avoid pressure because his line failed him yet again) isn't folding under pressure. Tannehill isn't the issue, though as another poster mentioned, he's dangerously close to getting "David Carr'd" if his formative years in the NFL teach him to play scared of the pass rush.
T Hill needs to find open receivers and when they are not open, he needs to get rid of it or take off. It would make the wins a lot easier and we would probably be 4-1 now. That said, I think he is our franchise QB if our OL doesn't shorten his promising career.
That was a sick play, and it's too bad it didn't lead to a win. He's still young and needs to learn how to manage being in the pocket a bit, but that play, as well as many other throws today, show what this kid is capable of.
This line is a joke. And RT needs to lead Wallace more. Trust his speed. Leaving TDs on the field. I'm pissed about this loss. Ravens won't make the playoffs this year. Can't lose to teams of this caliber at home. Very weak.
I watch a ton of Browns games, Tannehill does the same exact thing that has plagued Brandon Weeden...He holds the ball too long and waits for that perfect throw...He also some bad pocket awareness. that much I can ***** about with Tannehill in my opinion. However our offensive line is AWFUL! Martin is an embarassment and Tyson Clabo was released by the Falcons for a reason and it wasn't because of money. John Jerry sucks too. Switch it up and see what happens...it can't hurt. Tannehill is going to get injured if we don't do something to change this horror.
At some point the QB has to say damnit my OL is leaking I've got to take it upon myself to scramble away from pressure and try to make a play. RT did a masterful job on the play to Gibson, and then he went back to statue mode on the next play. I get the frustration people have w the OL but RT had one job once we were in FG range and that was to not get sacked.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different result...Blah, Blah, Blah...Who Doesn't know that? Sherman, that's who... Someone please pass that on to him regarding his pocket passing philosophy please.
its catching up with us, needs to be solved if we can solve it or try. otherwise we lose to buffalo in 2 weeks to go 3-3 still not out of it, but outside and looking in to make that final 6th seed
Yeah I don't understand why there aren't more designed roll outs. The DL don't even have to rush the QB they just aim for a spot on the field and 9 outta 10 RT is gonna be there.
I get what you're saying but do you understand that if the protection breaks down the QB needs to react and not just sit there to be devoured? These are not free runners coming at him, he has enough time to realize that pressure is coming. We should also give a eff u to the running game, I have never been more wrong about a player than I was about Lamar Miller so far.
He sees nothing because the pocket collapses from all angles just about every damn drop back. He has nowhere to go, it's a gang bang at the QB. Go back and look at the sacks, its not a case of a single guy getting there, just about every time there are multiple defenders around him. There was one play were he did like an 11 step drop back and still nearly got hit before he could get rid of it. This OL is epically bad.
The offensive line was the most glaring "reason" for losing, but I think there were a ton of other big & little things that affected the outcome of the game. Caleb Sturgis has been fantastic. The 57 yard FG is such a tough FG to make to tie the game. However, he can't kick that ball out of bounds. You just can't do that. Kicking the ball out of bounds is just as bad as missing a chip FG IMO. That was such a big turn of events after we had just tied the game. The defense was on the field all half (all game really), and now we ask them to not give up 25 yards, which they gave up only 32. You can't do that. Charles Clay drops a pass that would have turned that FG from 57 yards to 52-54 yards. While he had enough leg to make the kick, the mindset of having to drill a 57 harder as opposed to a 52-54 harder that you've made countless times helps a ton. Mike Wallace & Ryan Tannehill fail to connect on a 3rd down in the 1st quarter in the redzone. Going off of that our 3rd down efficiency was atrocious. We couldn't get off the field in the 2nd half and we couldn't stay on the field the entire game. Kicked 2 FG's in the redzone, when we need touchdowns. Once again, our failures to convert on 2nd down and short or 3rd down and short. The 1st drive we failed to get short yardage on 2 straight plays. In the second half, we have 2nd & 2 and Wallace doesn't keep his feet in bounds for a catch. Then on the following 3rd & 2, Hartline drops a surefire 3rd down conversion. Drops ALL over the place. We talk about the liability our offensive line is, but what about our LB's? Koa Misi is serviceable, but Wheeler has been atrocious. Ellerbe who was out much of the game today has made very few plays. Plus, they are all horrid in coverage. They're liabilities. When you have a team that has a small margin of error and we already know our offensive line is bad, you can't have ALL of those other things happen and expect to win. You just can't.
Either did Dan Marino......................................And he had incredible movement AROUND the pocket didn't he?
