Pretty much every animated Disney movie except 'Fantasia.' I just despise musicals in general, and almost every animated Disney movie is a musical.

I just don't like most of his movies. There are so slow its like pulling teeth. It worked for The Shining, because it really played into Jack's decent into madness. But that's the point, his pacing matches up with madness.

I think it was highly overrated. For me it goes: The Shining > A Clockwork Orange > Any average movie > Full Metal Jacket > all but one of his other movies > Any bad movie > Eyes Wide Shut

yeah eyes wide shut was bad. But fmj is awesome. I'd say the shining > fmj > clockwork > avg movie
I would compare kubrick to hemingway in terms of artistic style. And like hemingway that style puts a lot of people off I guess.

I'm pretty sure your are a freedom hating commie. Why don't you move to russia and eat borscht all day with your new friends if you love it so much? There is no "me love you long time" in our lexicon without that movie. Your entire business empire would crumble (both corners), and you'd have no excuses to buy those long black wigs. In conclusion, you suck, not Full Metal Jacket. I hope you get bitten by an alabama black snake. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

    ## edit: It sure is nice to get away from pofo and have a causal conversation about movies with out all of the vitriol and hyperbole of politics.

With a few exceptions, Ive been getting bored with a few of some of the comedy's over the last few years. Kinda feels like the world of comedy needs a little shaking up. I mean the story lines change, but the style humor is the same pretty much same as it has been the last 2 decades it seems...well maybe not exactly the same, I dont know, I really cant put my finger on it. Its like there was a scale of 1-10 to rate how funny movies were and you averaged them up and put them on a graph, there would be steady decline over the last 10-15 years....

    The Dark Knight

Crash (not sure if it's considered good, but Jesus that movie was talked up for a while)

    Snatch

Full Metal Jacket I would have agreed with had I not just happened to catch it on TV a few days ago. I think it's very good now

Scarface, as mentioned. I think it's a pretty crappy movie, tbh. Everyone knows at least one douche that had the movie poster in his room

    Social Network

Rocky Horror Picture Show. Sorry, if art is going to imitate my life, it could at least be a little more accurate. I never wear red lipstick.

Donnie Brasco. Just seemed very cheesy to me

Yeah. I mean I don't think it's bad or anything. I just didn't like it as much I thought I would. I'm over the musical score with the constant blaring horns. I've heard it before. I think I talked about this in the other thread: I had a hard time suspending disbelief for this movie and by the end, I was partly rooting for the bomb to go off.

As for Snatch, idk, I haven't seen it in a long time. I might change my mind on a re-watch

I'm not worried. You'll drunk text your way back.

I don;t really have this problem much at all... my WIFE on the other hand.

Man, she gets bored with about 70% of the movies that rate higher than 7/10 on IMDB
    85% of foreign movies
50% of Best Picture Oscar winners
and 95% of anything made before the year 2000.

    Honestly, it's frustrating at times.

Dances with Wolves was a huge book office/critical success and I hated it. Now I don't think every Native American was a blood thirsty savage but they weren't all Gandhi either!

Silverado was a huge disappointment to me because I grew up on westerns and I never got into it.

Thought Avatar was a great commercial for how many special effects you can jam into one flick but for story???? Yuck! I've had more intricate plots from third grade story time!

Titanic? Eeeh! Made adolescent girls happy, me not so much (though the scenes in the present with the old lady were pretty good!)

Wanted to like both Scarface and Goodfellows but never liked the characters enough to care if they got wacked or made it out alive. I am still a huge fan of the Film Noir stuff with Bogart, Cagney, and/or Edward G.

Huge fan of Disney and like many of the stage musicals made into films particularly Music Man, Fiddler, and South Pacific. Some other musicals like Singin' in the Rain are also favorites. Thought Oklahoma was a huge waste of celluloid!

Yeah. Hans Zimmer is notorious for lazy soundtracks. Even my favorite soundtrack (Gladiator) by Zimmer ripped off Gustav Holtz's The Planets

There's a list of movies that borrowed from Holtz's Suite, "The Planets." It's almost a staple today to base action/sci music on his work. Mostly movies to do with space. "The Right Stuff" is a big one, and so are several Star Trek and Star Wars Movies. Composer John Williams uses a lot for his stuff. That's an awesome piece of music by Holtz. My favorite is Mars, The Bringer of War. The 'Gladiator' soundtrack borrowed quite a bit from that one. Holtz set the standard for intense movie music, everybody else just borrows from it.

I really liked Dances with Wolves. Thought it was about the only movie with Kevin Costner that was good.

agreed on Silverado though. that was extremely disappointed. Jeff Goldblum, Kevin Kline and Danny GLover, the last 3 actors I think of as cowboys.

Avatar was pure special effects, no surprises there. I can't call it disappointing because I never had expectations for it. Sam Worthington - worst current actor in Hollywood at the moment. I enjoyed Titanic the first time, but absolutely hated it after that.

I happen to like Clooney. He has been a main actor in quite a few good movies:

    Three Kings
Syriana as a badass CIA agent based on Bob Bear
    Michael Clayton
    Leatherheads, good popcorn movie
Burn After Reading is debatable I suppose
    Up in the Air
The American could be a bit mixed
    The Ides of March
    The Descendants

This doesn't even include many of the more popular ones like the Ocean series and Perfect Storm and O Brother....

Wow, this thread is still alive?

I guess I could add Dark Knight Rises. If the entire movie was like the last action scene, it would be top notch. The rest of the movie was boring, stupid, really stupid and didn't make much sense. I am not even going to go into turning Batman into a *****.

If Avatar counts as a great movie(it isn't, I did enjoy it, but it is a fun popcorn movie) I have to put Amazing Spider-Man. I have never hated a movie more after thinking about it than this movie. So much of it is really, really stupid where I have gone on 30 minute rants on why this movie is terrible. It is terrible. So very, very terrible.
