I am not as up on Dolphin players or FA as I used to be. So I am relying on you guys to give your thoughts on who on our roster or in FA could possibly improve our OL.

We can hire anybody off the street as a FA to take our entire offensive line save for Pouncey and Incognito and drive them 40 miles off shore on a boat and then sink it.

That is one fix there is in FA.

Other than that....next offseason, unless we do something drastic like trade a high pick.

Not a lot that can be done with the personnel we have. But IMO something needs to be done anyway. I think we need to bench clabo.

Garner and Jerry have both played RT with an ounce of success before so I think one of them should start there against the bills. Jerry's not cutting it at RG, so hopefully Watkins can.

There's no easy fix that will gaurantee a turn around within the unit. Hopefully making a switch can at least slow the pass rush down a little bit. If garner can keep the olb/de from getting to tannehill in less than 3 seconds, it's an improvement.

Someone posted yesterday that Boomer tweeted that Jerry should be moved to RT and move Watkins into the RG spot. If they are going to make a significant change, this sounds as good as any.

Only 40? They might wash back up. Better make it 60... :tongue2:

Another option for next season is to move Cogs back to RG and play Dallas Thomas at LG as they seem to view him as Cogs replacement at some point anyway. That would mean only having to bring in a RT either via FA or the draft.

Not sure about where we are with Watkins this season either. Really hope he replaces Jerry as as a upgrade.

What did Ireland famously say about his WRs once? How he had no 1s or 2s... just a bunch of 3s, 4s, and 5s? Something to that effect? Well, that's where the Phins are at right now concerning the OL. It's not that they simply lack good starters at 3 positions, they don't have decent enough depth to challenge those starters, either. Right now, the best you could hope for is move some guys around and hope they're not terrible as a unit anymore. Clabo needs to be replaced. That much is obvious. However, who you replace him with is another problem. I don't think they have very many options.

This is an issue that many of us pointed out at the beginning of training camp. We were lambasted by others on this site who made out like we were over-reacting to the early struggles of the OL. Somehow, the coaches would get it figured out, as if they were simply going to sprinkle magic fairy dust on the problem and it would just go away. Well, not only has it not gone away, it is now an overwhelming (and, possibly historic) weakness in the offense.

This problem is not a scheme or coaching issue, IMO. It is a personnel issue, and it rests squarely on the shoulders of Jeff Ireland. He's had 5 years to build a decent OL and has not. Every one of his OL draft picks outside of Pouncey, and every one of his free agent OL signings outside of Incognito, to this point, has failed to make an impact. They simply don't have the dogs to run, and I don't see the problem just getting any better on its own. Ireland needs to buck his own trend and start making smart decisions, personnel-wise. The solution is for Ireland to get his head out of his butt or be replaced by a GM who makes better decisions.

That doesn't have a chance of happening until next off-season.

IIRC, Jerry did well there in limited duty. Considering how badly Clabo is doing and this being the bye it's a good time to start that. I'm hoping the staff doesn't follow the Sparano method where if something isn't working, OK, just do it harder, OK.

totally agree with your assessment. having said that, if they can't protect RT (& prove it against Buffalo) I would replace him with Moore until they found a solution to the dilemma. they will , destroy a franchise qb in-the-makng if they continue to allow him to be sacked at this rate. sometimes you have to take a step back to take two steps forward. let's see what they come up with over the bye week... I'm sure Philbin is aware of the urgency of the situation & will act accordingly.

Everybody is sleeping on Cyril Richardson as a 1st round target. I think he's going to be special and he is a must-draft if we let go of Richie. I also like Jon Asamoah the guard from KC and Veldheer the Tackle from Oakland as possible FA acquisitions to help this oline. Richardson though is an absolute road grader and he would completely help out our running game. The thing about him too is he protected RG3's blindside at Baylor and has good quickness for a man his size (6'5'' 340.) The thing I also like about him is that he has a lot of good experience (Redshirt Senior) in the Big 12.

I think a guy you need to have an idea on heading into next year is Yeatman. If he has any chance to be successful we need him to have reps. It not only allows us to have an idea of what he is, if he isn't very good then we can open up a roster spot and use it for someone worth a damn. Also let Thomas have some snaps as well, allow them each a series or two or 'x' many plays a game to get their feet wet.

It also allows us to get them experience so that if they have to play for a couple of games, some of the growing pains are out of the way.

Rex Hadnot is still around? We might as well have kept Samuda if you're looking for Hadnot at this stage of his career.
