Well good luck the rest of the way and if you make it to Denver you can take solace in that. For what it's worth, to answer the OP's question, I think Miami is better. Tannehill is more experienced and has played better than Smith. You have a better group of receivers too. RB's is a wash and the Jets OL is better. As a Jets fan, I give a slight edge to the Jets on D, but you could make a case either way. But the biggest difference between the teams comes at the QB position and right now Miami has a better one and hence a better team. I like what I've seen from Tannehill and I feel a lot of the moaning I read on these forums is unjustly deserved. For a 2nd year QB, I think he is doing great. I can arguably say he hasn't lost any games for you guys. Smith has lost games both for NY.
Losing two in a row just has left a sour taste in people's mouths. I hate to say this but I think after week six, we'll see the Jets and Pats both at 4-2. You guys have a pretty brutal three game stretch after the Steelers though.
I agree. However, when fully healthy with Wake back and Jordan growing into more playing time, I think we should be plenty trouble for the Jets passing offense. We're not as good stopping the run as they are right now, but I don't think they'd gash us by any means. So I think both offenses are going to struggle. We won't run on them, and Tannehill will get harassed a lot. So should Smith. It probably comes down to turnovers, maybe even turnovers by the QBs, and both guys are kind of prone to turnovers right now. Points will be at a premium. They'll probably be able to drive a little better, but they're also a little more susceptible to a big play due to their gambling style. That's why I think it's close. Playcalling/gameplanning... gonna be crucial. And then executing at the right times. Be nice to be healthy as well.
Watch. The games will turn into one of those epic Dan Marino/Ken O'Brien shootouts from the mid 80's!
Having watched the Jets plenty this season..... We have more talent on Defense than they do.....BUT, they play better as a Unit. Their offensive line is better, and thus so is their run game. But Our QB, and Passing game is better, as we also turn it over much less. Throw in our Kicking game...we have a decent edge. it really is as simple as Tanny outplaying Geno..and we win. Tanny has already outplayed Luck, Ryan, and Flacco..so why not Geno? That game in NY will be a classic toss up though. We win here by a TD.
Tell me about the Miami's kicking game. Folk has been perfect this year and he's hit two game winning field goals. How do you get better than that? Plus the majority of his kickoffs go for touch backs. Are you talking about the punting game? Because I don't see how Miami can have a better kicking game than NY right now. Also going to disagree about talent of defense. Wilkerson, Coples, Richardson, Harrison/Ellis, David Harris, Demario Davis and Cromartie are a verytalented bunch. I am not saying Miami doesn't have talent, but I think it's hard to say with certainty that Miami has more talent on defense.
Those were awesome... until we ended up losing after Judson and Langford got victimized (to use a family-friendly word) by Wesley Walker and his circa 200 yards and 4 TDs all day long... and Al fricking Toon. I hate when Memory Lane ends in the quagmire of sewage that were those endings. I'm sure you were in the ecstasy of glee, while my childhood weekend was being ruined. I guess I'd prefer the Fake Spike (Clock) Game... at least the ending. The game wasn't as good, but it had the right ending!
Don't want to call it luck, but when Sheldon Richardson was available with your 2nd pick, I was pissed off, that guy was a legit blue chip player, should of been top 10 easy imo, had endless debates here as to what he would be...ROTY, so multiple and explosive.. Our boy Dion is starting to heat up though jet fan..his rep count is low because I think he's on a strict pitch count because of the setback on the shoulder injury preseason, but man, those two players are gonna be meeting in Hawaii every year.
I have seen Nick Folk before. Sturgis has only missed a 57 yarder while being rushed to run up there and hit it..and Fields might be the best punter in the NFL. As for Talent on Defense..we have three Pro Bowlers on the Defensive line without counting top performers Dion Jordan, and Jared Odrick. We like Vernon too. The Secondary boasts two top performers in Jones and Grimes. At LB, Ellerbe has been very good, and Misi grades out really well as a run stopper. I think I am pretty certain that we have more "talent" on defense. But that doesn't matter anyway. What matters is how you play as a unit. I give the Jets the edge there. But yeah..on the kicking game..you are out to lunch on that one.
Folk is 11 for 11 and has hit almost every pressure kick he's ever had as a Jet. How can you say Sturgis is better? Call it equal if you want, but better? I had no idea about your punter. I'll readily admit that. I still say the Jets front 7 is one of the league's best. That's not taking away anything from Miami. They have some very good players. My point that so do the Jets. Wilkerson and Richardson are playing at a pro bowl level. Those 2 are going to create havoc for years to come. Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk now Free
Folk, before this season was 76.9% (70-91) as a Jet kicker. Mediocre to Bad. He was 28th last year in FG%. yeah...Sturgis is better. At least he projects to be much better going forward.
He had at least 3 blocked last year and they weren't because of him. But I digress. As of today, he's been perfect and has hit two game winners. You can't ask for more than that. He's been money. Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk now Free
The Dolphins have more talent in their front 7, I don't even think it should be an argument. I WISH the Dolphins played as a unit as well as the Jets are on defense. I'll say a lot of things about Rex, most of them not good but that man can coach the **** out of a defensive football team. I wish Coyle was half the coordinator Rex is, this defense would be ridiculous.
Haha, I see what you did there. But I agree, Rex is better than Rob. Their defensive line is pretty nasty with Wilkerson and Richardson. Just imagine if they had a quality pass-rushing OLB like Wake or Dion Jordan along with that front. Woof. I also think Miami needs to go back to more of the 3-4 style fronts they utilized last year. For one thing, it gets Starks, Soliai, and Odrick on the field at the same time, and I feel like that's going to do more for the run defense than Olivier Vernon is. Obviously you'll still have a pass-rushing "DE", predominantly Wake on the front. But I think it would also allow them to use Vernon and Shelby more effectively as sub-package players. It would also allow them to use Dion Jordan as more of an OLB which he's used to as I'm sure you know from Oregon. That's the mystifying thing about the Koa Misi re-signing, to me anyways.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but even some Miami fans can see it being debatable. Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk now Free
I disagree. The Jets have a better PR department. Meaning...they are a New York team. Put our D-Line in New York..they would be compared with the Fearsome Foursome and constant vignettes of how good they are would be running on ESPN. As good as the Jest D-Line is..ours is easily more talented.
Because you have seen and graded every snap that Wilkerson and Richardson have played this year...right?
The way Wilkerson and Richardson can pass rush, I don't think the Jets are handicapped by their OLBs in that regard. I'd also rather see Jordan play OLB, and a 3-4 scheme with he and Wake at those spots would IMO be a better overall use of personnel. Not sure about Wheeler as a 3-4 ILB though. The Misi resigning is a head scratcher to me. Unless there are injuries, he just does not play enough snaps to warrant the investment. He is also a road block for Jordan being a starting OLB, or even Jenkins next year, whom I thought may fit well with Ellerbe and Wheeler assuming we remain with the 4-3.
Because you know what I do right? No I haven't. But I have seen every snap of dolphins football and watch 3 out of 5 jets games. There has not been a player in the dolphins front 7 that has played great this year. Certainly no one that has had the impact. Maybe Paul on run plays.
and Odrick. and Dion Jordan. and Cam Wake when healthy. and Randy Starks in 4 of 5 games. and Vernon, who was a beast in 2 games. oh ****..that's our entire D-Line.
It's actually my job to watch that god damn team. Top rated teams in Miami as per Sunday Ticket: Dolphins, Jets, Cowboys, Giants, Eagles. Wilkerson has been a monster...Richardson has been okay...while having a monster game vs. Buffalo, and playing a decent half last night.
Living in NYC and seeing a lot of the Jets, I will give my honest opinion. Up to this point in the season, I think the Jets have a better O-line, they run block and pass protect better, which gives them a more effective running game than us. I feel the Jets run defense is also better than ours right now, they "blow up" alot of plays and stuff the run better than us right now. We have the better QB, better WRs, and better secondary. As far as the RBs, right now Powell is doing ALOT better than our two scrubs. That's my .02, and I still think we will be in the playoff hunt.
No. They haven't. Cam Wake is clearly the best PLAYER of both teams. But your absolutely kidding yourself if you think those guys you named were "beasts".
You can disagree all you want...but the Jets play a 3-4 and they have two very good D-Linemen, with one star. We have three pro bowlers to go along with Odrick, Jordan and Vernon. It is not outlandish to say the team with 6 very good linemen has more talent than the one with two very good linemen. (Coples jury is still out..)
