I have never been a showboat kinda guy, I hated Papelbon and Joba as those 2 guys really started the whole new age chest pounding crap, but I will say players do it and will continue to do it.....

Dont give up the home run then.....

What did Maddon say I didnt catch it Fink?

You cant say dont give up a homerun fin. Every pitcher does. You know what is funny. If a pitcher celebrated after every time they struck out a better or david ortiz specifically, he would have a big issue with you. He is a clown. As much as I dont like the Red Sox, I respect certain players, I respect Pedrioa because he plays the game the right way. I dont respect Ortiz.

Exactly, if you don't like seeing players do fist pumps or pimp home runs then get them out. Plus any pro player that complains about it is a hypocrite because they either do it themselves or have a teammate(s) that does it. Price didn't have a problem with his team "shooting arrows" after getting hits or Rodney after a save or even himself in the game in Texas last week. It's just the way sports are for better or worse depending on your view.

Nothing nothing really specific that Maddon said, although the guy has just been full of excuses lately, it's just his whole act is just tiring. I think he loves hearing himself talk and reading about himself in the papers and writers have kind of written about how he's this old sage/zen guy that's smarter then everyone else and he just comes across like he's playing/acting the part. That's why I'm being serious when I say he's got a lot of Bobby Valentine in him.

Oh come on now. Ortiz has been pimping home runs for over 10 years, this is nothing new. His last HR that he hit he wasn't pimping it, he was standing at the plate waiting to see if the ball was fair or foul. I really don't think he was trying to show anyone up. I just think this was made into a big deal by Price because he got beat and hit hard and that was his way of blowing off steam.

Regardless, the bottom line is if a player doesn't like it just get him out next time. That's the perfect revenge.

David Ortiz has an issue if you even "think" about pitching inside on him nevermind if you actually do it....

But yea Naps, come on dont give up 2 home runs to one guy in one game, that can be prevented IMO...you have to make better pitches...it was the whole thing when the Pats were rolling teams on purpose running up the score every game a few years ago....hey it sucks right? being up 35 and throwing the 9 route with 3 minutes left? just dont let it happen then...and thankfully the Giants didnt

Exactly. He's been doing it for years, doesn't make it right. It's one thing to pimp a HR after a pitch hits him or a pitch up and in. Or someone has talked ****. But it's never been that. Price has owned Ortiz for his career. Excuse me if I don't think a pitcher should never give up a homer run in order to stop someone from showing up a pitcher. That ball was clearly fair.

I didn't have an issue with the Pats running up the score. Different story IMO. I would of had an issue with the Pats running up the score and having a huge team celebration after each one. Yea.

It doesn't make it right or wrong. It's just how the sport is now. All I'm saying is the best revenge is to get the hitter out, that way he doesn't do it.

Again I will say Price made it an issue more so because he got beat up in the game. I'm sure if the Rays won or he pitched well and they lost he wouldn't have said anything about it. I think Price completely got caught up in the moment, which was obvious from his Twitter rant later in the night.

Take a look at that video, when Ortiz is standing at the plate. Just watch the ump, even he's not sure if it's fair or foul. As soon as the ump realizes it is that's when Ortiz starts to "run around the bases".

    http://wapc.mlb.com/bos/play/?content_id=31093125&topic_id=60134240&c_id=bos

I'm not sure you can say the ball was clearly fair. I know when I first saw it live I thought it was foul because of the camera angle shown.

So shooting arrows after getting a hit or getting a save is ok but its not ok to "pimp a HR"?

It was a form of showboating however...NFL isnt college where you need to win and have quality wins for ranking purposes, there was no benefit in keeping a guy like Brady in games in the 4th qtr of a 35-3 game.....

TV angle always looks foul, but that ball is A) clearly fair and B) crushed holy **** he got into that.....I mean usually players do jog out of the box even if they think it is foul, I dont think Ortiz was showboating but more just being lazy....Papi doesn't run....

If that was Pedoria and he did that to say leftfield, by the time they showed him he would have been at 2nd....Papi is just a laid back dude....

Oh gotcha, makes more sense then. I actually don't think so, taking away in game managing or his relationships with the players/coaches etc. Both guys just love to talk and I think love reading about themselves in the press. Both have been painted a certain way in the media and play up to it. I'm sure if you're a Rays fan you love the guy, and why not right? I think Maddon is a very good manager, probably one of the best in the game, I just wish he didn't talk as much as he did. As a non-Rays fan he just makes you roll your eyes on 90% of the stuff he says.

I think you hit the nail on the head there, that's just what Ortiz does. Whether you think it's right or wrong, he's consistent in that he watching his home runs and takes his time around the bases. I don't think he was trying to show anyone up either.

Thats the major difference, I love Joe. Did you love Bobby? Joe's players love him. Bobby's certainly didnt. Sure, they both love to talk, and yes sometimes Joe does go in on opponents. But he doesnt sound like a babbling idiot like Bobby did when he does.

The 2nd replay, just after they show Ortiz standing at the plate is a bad angle, it makes the ball look further away then it was due to the way RF jets out and the camera not being on line with home plate. The last replay is probably the best look it showing if it was fair or foul and just how close it was when the ball passes the foul pole.

I love that he talks and says crazy ****. Give me that everyday of the week over the robotic canned say nothing crap that the majority of professional coaches say. It's sports. It's entertainment.

Ah frustrating loss last night. Sox had numerous chances to put the game away and didn't do it. The 8th inning especially with the Rays loading the bases and scoring without hitting a ball passed an infielder. Shocking that Koji finally gave up not only a hit but a run and home run too. That's how good he's been all year. Hopefully he got it all out of his system. Sox would be wise to win tonight's game because I'm not sure they'll be so lucky to get bad Price two times in 1 series. Just can't let Longoria beat them.

LONGO!!! the Sox slayer ahhhhhh!!!!! Hey your closer can be lights out during the regular season I just hope he turns into a gas can for the playoffs....

As for yesterday both teams had many chances to win that game....It might not even been that close had Tampa didnt make a few blunders (they have been giving the Sox runs all series actually)

Cobb fields his position very well, didnt realize that until last night.

Nappy if Helli is on the short lease tonight, who is up next? Archer right?

I'm surprised Hellickson is starting too but TB is a smart FO, you have to give them the benefit of the doubt. I think Hellickson will be on an extremely short leash, as he should be in an elimination game with an off day tomorrow.

Yeah TB has looked terrible all series defensively which is surprising.

I'm just worried about Peavy pitching with 12 days of rest. Hopefully he's not rusty.

ALCS baby! Man the last two games were really nerve racking, but glad the Sox were able to pull it off without having to go back to Boston for a Game 5 against Price. Although once the Sox didn't score a single run off of Jamey Wright with the bases loaded and 0 outs I would have beat my house the Sox weren't going to win. Craig Breslow was the MVP last night, his work in the middle innings was freaking huge. I'm also glad Farrell finally decided to pinch hit for Drew with Bogaerts against a LHPer. Bogaerts put up 2 very good at bats in drawing walks and then able to come around and score. I actually wouldn't be surprised if Middlebrooks continues to struggle or if there's a tough LHSPer if Bogaerts gets a start. And man that Peavy trade looks great today.

Also huge that the Sox can go with Lester in Game 1 of the CS. I'm rooting for Oakland to beat Detroit due to so many former Sox on that team but I think no matter who wins that series it will be a fun and challenging ALCS.

Kudos to Maddon for keeping them in the game last night mixing and matching pitching, they just never got the vats going. Kudos equally to Peavy for pitching such a good game on 12 days rest.....

I am rooting for Oakland because I just think it will be a better series....

Yeah him and Victorino were always on base. I'm starting to question whether the Sox should think about resigning Ellsbury now. He's never going to be the player he was in 2011 but the player he is in 2013 isn't bad by any means. Wonder if the Sox make it far and Ellsbury is happy in Boston if he would take a similar deal the Sox made with Pedroia. An OF of JBJ, Ellsbury and Victorino would be outstanding defensively.

Who ever the Sox face in the ALCS, the major advantage they will have is neither team has a lefty SPer as the Sox have been much better all year vs. RHPers.

With Boras? If they win this year he will have 2 rings, is injury prone, and is in his prime at his first crack at free agency? I would think he is all about the money this time....

I would be somewhat shocked if he didnt get at least 18-21M......but of course it is the Sox and players do take those deals for them...

It's probably very unlikely but Boras works for Ellsbury, not the other way around. Of course that's if the Sox want him back or if they can agree on the right price tag too. I'd sign him to that Pedroia deal right now if he wanted but if he's looking for more I'd move on.

Oh I agree but has that ever worked in the past? You start getting pressure from the Players Association, it isnt as easy as you think to give a home town back in a primo positions that has proven to be very lucrative.....

DP say what you will about home town, but he got paid fair market value......2nd base isnt a high paying position...well until Cano makes it one in a few months...

Bring on Detroit. Game 1 Saturday Jon Lester vs. Anibal Sanchez. Should be a good/fun series. The key to the series is to keep shutting down Cabrera and Fielder, taking advantage of the Tigers questionable defense and really make the SPers work and get into that bullpen as soon as possible. I think the Sox match up very well against Detroit. Think it goes at least 6 or 7 games. I think Boston is the better team, hopefully they play like it.

I am pretty pumped for this series, should be good baseball. Every game will feature good starters and the lineups are two that top to bottom can beat you. I think it goes 6 or 7 also, Tigers to good to only win 1 game, maybe.

I think with Cabrera clearly not at 100%, there's a pretty big drop off after the 5th hitter in the line up. Sox just have to continue to play good ball and keep grinding out those at bats and get the starters out of the game earlier and beat up on Detroit's pen.

I think all the games will be pretty close though and tough. Biggest key might be Detroit's lack of left handed pitching.
