Sox rotation: Lester, Buchholz, Lackey, Peavy.

Farrell also said Middlebrooks is starting Game 1 but wouldn't commit past that. Said he sees match ups where Bogaerts, Gomes, Ross and Carp could get starts.

Yeah Middlebrooks is starting at 3B tomorrow but after that there's no guarantee he does. I don't think you'll see Farrell benching LHH Drew for Bogaerts. If Bogaerts plays it will be at 3B or to pinch hit for Drew late in the game.

I'm just glad Farrell is now open to the idea. It feels a lot like the Coco Crisp/Ellsbury situation back in 2007.

Nevermind. When I seen Gomes name in there I thought you meant he said Gomes could start there because is a match up. Didn't pay attention to the other guys you listed.

Frustrating, yet winnable game last night. Hopefully the bats wake up tonight. Expect Carp, Bogaerts and Gomes to play tonight.

Yeah, I know some people are complaining that it was a long game but it was super intense all the way through. Hopefully both series and the WS goes 7 games.

Yeah, you got to hope he figures it out. Unless a LHP is on the mound you need to start him.

All I can say is wow. Unbelievable comeback. As bad as the Sox played in the first 16 innings, they played great those last 2. Really the Sox have been fighting like that all year. It would be nice if they chipped away at the starting pitcher a little bit more though, obviously the flip side to all the K's is that they get the pitch count up and get into the Tigers' pen but still the Sox need to start getting some more hits and base runners on as they haven't been putting any pressure on the defense.

Hopefully the Sox can start tomorrow afternoon.

Just a fantastic game by Lackey and the pen tonight. With zero room for error they all came up huge especially Tazawa and Koji in that 8th inning.

Hopefully the Sox are able to bust out a bit against Fister tomorrow. It would be nice if they didn't have to go back to Boston to play another ALCS game especially since it would be against Scherzer and Verlander.

Eh I don't think it's a big deal really nor is it anything other players on other teams wouldn't say. At least they're whining about it in private and not making it a story or a big deal. I'm sure if Peralta didn't drive in the game winning run in Game 1 or didn't perform well they would care.

How are they doing it in private if multiple news agencies are reporting it?

They do care, they definitely do, they said as much with A-Rod as well.....It just seems a little hypocritical..

In this event and in today's game you just have to as you have said in the past, deal with it and play ball...

It all seems like it's coming from a throwaway line from the Gammons article and other media outlets like Yahoo, NESN and the Bleacher Report are just running with it. It's not like any of these sites are giving you any direct quotes from Sox players or giving new information about it.

And of course it's hypocritical, welcome to sports. If it affects my team I won't like it but if it helps my team its ok. If Peralta was on the Tigers, the Tigers would complain. If Peralta was on the Sox and he helped them win those Sox players wouldn't care.

Bottom line is if the players really have an issue with it, bring it up at the next CBA/Union meeting and change the PED suspension rules. Until then, it is what it is and just move on.

Hopefully the Sox can put together a hit or two before the 5th inning tonight. Breslow and Tawaza have been on fire, they went nicely through the heart of the lineup.

I didn't look, but it seems like it may be time for Middlebrooks take a seat for Xander soon. He has been a hole at the bottom of the lineup.

Normal Sox line up tonight with Ellsbury, Victorino, Pedroia, Ortiz, Napoli, Nava, Saltalamacchia, Drew and Middlebrooks for tonight. I'd love to see the Sox offense finally get going tonight but Fister is a pretty good pitcher in his own right. But it would be nice if the Sox could knock him out of the game by the 5th inning.

It will be interesting to see what Farrell does if Middlebrooks has another poor night at the plate, especially since he's bad against pitchers who throw sliders (hello Sanchez and Scherzer). It might be time to take the training wheels off of Bogaerts. Unfortunately a lot of hitters have been bad in this series but Drew has really struggled all post season so far too.

Tonight is a huge game for both teams. Again I'd rather the Sox not have to go back to Boston to play another ALCS game if they can avoid it. Hopefully Peavy pitches like he did against TB last week.

Yeah that game was certainly ugly. Surprised Peavy pitched such a stinker, especially since he was so good against TB. He just had zero command or control of his pitches.

And yeah I think Bogaerts has to get a start or 2 now for either Drew or most likely Middlebrooks, since he was the one that was pinch hit for today. Both guys have been pretty bad all post season, the Sox could use Bogaerts who's had some really good at bats already in October.

Kind of a no brainer at this point. I mean both Drew and WMB have looked bad all post season. I know the Sox love Drew's defense at SS and they pinch hit for WMB last night so you can put two and two together. I think Bogaerts, even though he's an unknown, probably gives the Sox the best chance to win because he's willing to work the count and has shown he can put up good at bats. I'd actually be pretty shocked and disappointed if he's not in the line up tonight.

Which is odd because Drew was doing well at the end of the year there.....however in the playoffs there is nothing but good pitching if you think about it...

Well I mean you have to tip your hat to the Tigers right now. Their starters have been unreal, really outstanding. They are reminding me of the 2005 Chicago White Sox staff where the starters just went on a roll all October. None of the Sox have good numbers in the ALCS right now but Drew is at least seeing more pitches and working the count while WMB is back to going up their hacking. Especially with all the RHPers and their offspeed stuff, the right play is to sit WMB and put Bogaerts in the line up.

Amazing game, Koji again just locking it down. Was that stat right that he has allowed the fewest runners per inning in history?

Was I the only one surprised that Middlebrooks ran for Xander in the 9th. I see no upside in this move.

I am gonna be pretty pumped up for the game Saturday.

Random tweet I just saw: Hey girl, are you Koji Uehara's splitter? Because I have a hard time connecting with you when you fall off the table like that.

Haha I'm seriously considering naming a future kid Koji, though I think it might be a tough sell. He's been unbelievable all year. Just insanely good.

I'm so happy that not only did Farrell gave Bogaerts the start but Bogaerts looked very good at the plate and in the field. There's really no way gets benched again right?

Yeah pinch running Bogaerts with Middlebrooks made no sense when you have Quintin Berry on the bench. Why not pinch run with Berry there? Either way it didn't factor in to the game, unfortunately, but man WMB had a great hustle play on Ross' bunt there getting to 3rd with an assist to the ump for getting in the way.

Hopefully the bats get going early on Saturday and they continue to pile on runs, last night was way too close for my liking. Lester certainly didn't have his A game but I'll sign up for 5 plus innings and 2 runs from my SPer in the playoffs anyday, though it would have been better if he at least got out of the 6th. Hopefully Buchholz has his A game Saturday after his stinker last week.

That was crushed, even my Dad got a bit excited about that.

Glad I wasn't the only one wondering about WMB, told my friend I have no clue why he is running. Great hustle, but outstanding ump assist.

This doesn't get talked about enough but the Sox defense is outstanding.

Not sure if Farrell ever explained it but perhaps he wanted to get WMB involved in the game and get his legs moving a bit before he took over at 3B for the 9th. Maybe with a 1 run lead he wanted to save Berry? I don't know.

The Sox pretty much won last night's game because of defense while Detroit lost it because of defense. Between the Cabrera error in the 2nd, the passed ball in the 3rd to score a run and all the Sox double plays it just killed the Tigers' rallies. As good as Detroit's pitching is their speed and defense is that bad. With Victorino struggling at the plate (he told reporters last night he won't bat LHed anymore this year) I think he should challenge Cabrera a bit at3B with some bunts for base hits, force the Tigers to play defense.
