I think, it happened just more then 41 years ago. Somewhere during that 9 mos. gestation, the NFL Football Fairy sprinkled pigskin dust over my mothers womb in shades of aqua and orange. Its the only way I can explain this unnatural love I have for a team that consistently leaves me broken. How can a sport affect my outlook on the upcoming week to such a degree? Now, I'm not the worlds smartest guy, but I do realize nothing I do on Sunday, or the other six days for that matter, will have any impact on the outcome, direct or otherwise, of a Dolphins football game. And still, I trudge into work this morning, turn on my laptop, and emo cut myself by logging into ThePhins.Com.

Its really bad guys, really bad. I mean, Dolphins fans get served up the perfect softball ammunition to rain hails of laughter and mockery in the direction of the Jet's, when one of their Zubaz uniformed momo fans decide to punch a pretty cute blonde wearing patriots garb right in the kisser. But, like a dog with no appetite, I simply mutter, eh, and slowly look off and stare at a crayon decorated white wall.

I replay it over and over in my head....2nd and 8. Tannehill drops back and, what the **** is the ball doing rolling on the ground 10 yards behind our line of scrimmage. What the ****. ****!, What the ****!.

3-3. We are 3-3. We were 3-0, and now we are 3-3. .500. Where in .500 do you find perspective, because, I sure as **** cant find it there. How do we beat the Colts, who beat the Broncos last night, and then lose AT HOME, to a 2-4 Buffalo team starting Carlton Banks at QB?

Somehow, we must do something to rid ourselves of the demon that snuck in during the middle of the night, and took a steaming doo doo in our teams locker room. And now...NOW..wears #666, er I mean, #77 on our beloved team. We must think of something, for staring us in the face is a pissed off Tom Brady and the rest of the New England Patriots. Do we sacrifice something? I need ideas...what can we do. Because sitting here going WTF!, and feeling helpless just sucks.

My idea is that everyone who participates in this thread, MUST consume the exact concoction that Sam decides to use as his barometer this week before the clock strikes midnight, Sunday Oct 27th.

Sam, if your reading this, please dont choose ingredients my wife is going to go, "Why the **** did you buy that **** to drink?" Because, if I have to explain to her that I needed it to ahem....in my best South'n Smoker Ladies voice.."Excerciiissssseeeee the Demonsssssssss"....I wont get nuttin from her for a month!

So...there we have it. What say ya'll?

I used to be in the same boat. But I'm doing much better these days. I still get really upset after a Dolphins loss but I don't let it even ruin the rest of my day. I made a decision a couple of years ago to make a real effort to not let things that I have no control over to affect my happiness. At least for extended lengths of time.

Oh, and a tip for anyone depressed about yesterday's loss. Get ready for more pain on Sunday. I just calculated the odds of Miami beating a Bill Belichick coached team on the road that is coming off an infuriating loss to the Jets -

The key to watching Dolphins "football" is dilution!

Play fantasy football. At least you can root for them!
Maybe bet some games. I mean at least you can win some money!
And if all three fail miserably. Dilute with alcohol.

Unless your a fanboy who drafted Lamar Miller as your running back, thinking, no way will they put Thomas in at RB often enough to put a hit on his value.

    Facepalms.

Come on guys....somebody has to join the Samphin Brigade and start reversing this curse, that exists, I know it does, this plague of curses that carried Clabo in during the offseason.

You know what F'n PISSES ME OFF.

    THIS.

The move essentially locks in Jonathan Martin as the Dolphins' starting left tackle after an abominable rookie season. Miami is showing an awful lot of blind faith in last year's second-round pick. Clabo, going on age 32, graded out as the NFL's fifth-best right tackle in 2012, per Pro Football Focus' ratings. He was strong in both protection and run blocking, although 6-foot-6, 329-pound Clabo has always been a power blocker. He'll have to learn to zone block in Joe Philbin's scheme.

    Thats Clabo's bio on rotoworld.

Knock, knock , um coach, I dont mean to question you but, HES NOT F***ing learning to Zone ****ing block, in your Zone ****ing blocking scheme!

You do realize that plague has a name, right? His name is Jeff Ireland. It's not random curses and luck bringing in these under performing players. Last year it was Nanee and this year it's Clabo. Both players hurt / crippled the team and it took entirely too long for the team to admit and rectify the mistake.

I've transferred all the hope I used to have for the Dolphins to the Heat. Much, much better.

You will drive yourself crazy putting that much hope into something you can't control. Best thing I did for myself is slowly morph into an NFL fan who's favorite team is the Dolphins. Not a blindly faithful Dolphins fan any longer... It really is crazy to think I used to let a bunch of grown men playing a game effect me the way it used too lol. Now I just enjoy watching any football game, and if the Fins do well, its all the better.

Fantasy football helped me make that transition. My phins lost, but my fantasy team killed it, and I'm like "eh" today. I'm also on a week vacation, so that somewhat helps to soothe the loss.

I filled the void left by yesterday's Fins game by buying some guitar gear. When things start going south, i start doing other things, playing with guitar gear etc. Yesterday they reeled me back in in the 3rd quarter, started thinking "no way we can lose now" and "Tannehill just turned the corner" only for Clabo to slap me across the face, sending me on a drive to a buddy's house to trade some speakers, glancing at my phone with 33 seconds left in the game, knowing there was no hope anyway. But yeah, gotta have a backup plan sundays for sure.

Ugh. Really, should have stuck to the run on that 4 minute drive

You should be watching the whole game. Go to your buddy's house AFTER they lose. As painful as it can be sometimes, you still gotta do it.

If we are going to get into mysticism and curses, the obvious answer here is the stadium renovations Huizenga undertook.

I was so depressed, I went to bed early and I couldn't watch anymore good football the rest of the day. It's easy to say things like dilute yourself and don't let it get you down for extended periods, but the problem is shortly after the losses we build hope for the next game and no matter what you say, I know deep down true fans still believe there is hope until the have lost 8 games. So I'm not going to try to fool myself, I know they can be 5-3 just as much as I know they could then turn 5-3 to 5-11. The keys to getting to the playoffs will be

    1) Don't put it all on Tannehill. Improve the running game
    2) Improve the right side of the OL
    3) Get healthy and stay healthy. When you see 53 and Trusnik and a lot of Jimmy Wilson you know someone is down and you're playing with 2nd stringers.

Some of that they can't control but I believe they can make the right decisions going forward to turn this team into a wildcard contender. It starts with looking for a right tackle maybe bring someone from retirement or maybe trying Nate Gardner during practice this week. Clabo should be released.

Disagree....there is a fine line between being a fan and a being a "sucker" - not trying to call anyone a sucker, just saying i'm not going to continiously waste an afternoon on bad product. I'll be a Dolphins fan forever, but if the product is lousy, i'll find something else to do rather than sit and watch another losing effort.

If you think it's negative around these parts right now, wait until next week.

This has the potential to get worse before it gets better.

On the bright side I see a very real possibility that the team moves back up to 5-4 with a nice feel-good win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football (to make up for the previous MNF showing, which was a drubbing).

I have to admit though I'm starting to wonder if I was premature moving my expectations away from 8-8 and onto 9-7.

VT, your my boy dude, remember, offseason is just as fun, to me I look at it like this...team better prove itself and not go in he tank, cause if they do, it's fun time, which means oppurtunity for change, if they don't tank and they respond, then the improvement is still ascending..

The curse is playing in that stadium..football players aren't gonna bleed if they feel their fans don't care enough..I know it's a viscious cycle, and the team needs to win to bring fans out, but the team isn't gonna win without serious support from their fanbase..that's what's most depressing..

I lol'd so damn hard at "Carlton Banks at quarterback."

That loss was the worst I've felt in a long time. I mean, all losses are tough but that loss killed all the feel good vibes we had at 3-0. All the rainbows and sunshine went up in flames.

I don't know what to expect from this team anymore, but I think we will learn a lot about Joe Philbin and Ryan Tannehill this week, as well as the entire team. Their backs are against the wall and everyone is angry again. If they go up to New England and win it will show me that we are a resilient team, but right now I'm not sure what kind of team we are.

I feel bad for Aqua4Ever. I'm not even sure I've seen him post since the Bills loss.

I believe he predicted the three straight wins, but then I think he predicted wins against the Ravens and Bills. He predicted the loss to the Saints. He's still 4-2 but he must be taking it pretty hard.

Looking at the schedule, I wonder which games the Dolphins will be favored in. Definitely Tampa. Maybe also at home against the Jets?

I'm wondering if what we have shaping up is a team that is better on the road than at home. They played really strong games against Cleveland and Indy before taking a dump on national television in New Orleans. But that was a MNF game and that has different things going on other than it just being a road game. At home Miami dropped a close one against Baltimore, a close one against Buffalo, and won a close one against Atlanta even though I think many acknowledged that Miami got outplayed.

If that's the case then Miami could be in for some surprise victories against New York, Pittsburgh and Buffalo...but some more struggles at home to the likes of the Bengals, Panthers and Chargers. Even if Miami is good on the road I think New England is going to be another buzz saw this week. That team is pissed off about the way they lost to the Jets. With Gronk and Ridley back, they have more ways they can turn that emotion into football vengeance than we do.

Agreed. I was actually checking out the Cleveland boards after that win for us. One guy painted such a bleak picture, spending all this money at the stadium, coming home dejected to wife and kid, etc. I actually have been rooting a little for cleveland since then.

yeah, i'm pretty dejected football-wise, don't feel like checking out NFL.com much and whatnot. Next week, i'll sit down for the NE game when it starts at least...after that, who knows....we need a win. 3-4 is all too familiar for us.

I used to get all upset, back in the Marino days. But then something happened. I grew up. I got older and I realized it is just a game. It's meant to be entertainment, not life. I had kids, sent one off to college (Go Knights!) and I learned what real life was. I was easy to look at football as just a game, and it got more enjoyable. My wife would always tell me that the team didn't know me so why did I take it so seriously? Suddenly the game didn't matter so much. It's for fun. You know what I did after we lost on Sunday? Thanked myself for starting Fred Jackson. It's a game. Remember that.

It sucks but it shouldn't bring him down. The past two SB champions went through 3 and 4 game losing streaks, too. It happens in the NFL.

Now, if we don't make the playoffs, that's a different story.
