If you really think a fat, drunk and stupid, 34 year old Bryant McKinnie is really going to upgrade this OL, you have a very rude awakening coming.
This is Ireland and Philbin trying to save their jobs, and these kind of hasty deals almost never work out.
hey..I really hate to do this...But I will anyway. THIS is not necessary. The guy was a good performer last year. He sucks now..Is lazy..and likes to party. leave it at that. Name Calling..unless it's for Ireland and Coyle is not nice.
Agreed. This was a clear message to the OLine and in no way meant as a long term fix. We already knew we would be procuring OLinemen this coming offseason anyway.
I swear if we gave up a 7th round pick for this garbage I'm going to be pissed. It better be someone from the practice squad.
Honestly, they shouldn't let Ozzie Newsome trade with inept front offices anymore. It just isn't fair to the league.
As long as it means Clabolombo is gone, I don't care if we got the LT from Danny's Little Giants That said... what did we give up for him, Jeff?
Ireland now could become harmful and dangerous and needs to be fired before he, in desperation trades away all of next years draft picks and the future ability to get better sooner, rather than later.
Its moves like this that make me scratch my head about JI. He could have signed McKinnie as fa 2 months ago but he opted for Clabo when McKinnie wanted Miami.
Did anyone really think McKinnie was a better option than Clabo? From what I recall, most people thought Clabo would be better than he has been.
This is honestly as desperate as it gets to save the season, and it's not going to help any. Giving up valuable draft picks for a guy that doesn't make us better nor pushes us to playoff contention is just plain ******ed. Just fire Ireland already before he trades all our draft picks away.
Reading this thread you'd forget we were talking about humans rather than products or live stock. Glad to see so much class here
I don't think Mckinnie gives up the "instant" pressure like Clabo...its not much but its something.. a heartbeat longer on some of these plays would have made a big difference...just saying.
If it's for a 7th, this trade isn't a bad one. Edit: Harbaugh confirms that it's a conditional late pick.
I didn't want to create a thread, but my gif actually has been nominated for avatar of the year by an international forum association
My irritation is that it's late and they it even had to happen to begin with. Thomas, Watkins and Yeatman?
Jesse Agler @finsjesse 50s As expected. RT @Ravens Harbaugh says #Ravens would get a conditional late pick in return from Dolphins.
Might be useless to us because we have Ireland doing the draft but to a competent GM, they're valuable yes. I don't see why we traded for McKinney anyways, didn't Turner say Clabo is one of the best in the game and basically blamed Tannehill?
It seems like we gave up essentially nothing so I don't mind the move, but I find it hard to believe that McKinnie wasn't available for this exact compensation last week. Why not get him into your program during the bye, even if you give Clabo one last start to see if he gets it right? Now you're going to be starting McKinnie for the first time in NE. I'm fine with the move, but the timing is head scratching, which is par for the course with this crew.
I actually think Stringer's suggestion of playing six linemen isn't half bad. Put Clabo and McKinnie on the right side next to one another?
Well I was hollering and screaming for them to do something different. This, if nothing else is something different.
I'm wondering if they did this because they expect him to start or because they are going with one of the developmental guys and are going to use him as a back up? Maybe Clabo even gets cut or IRed or something?
Considering Clabo is on pace to shatter the record for most sacks given up in a year, it would be incredibly difficult to be worse. This front office and coaching staff failed with the offensive line this year. That ship sailed though when the season began. At this point all you can really do is try and put a band-aid on it and that's what they're doing here. I would much rather see them go out and give up a 7th round pick on a player who could potentially be an upgrade than to sit there and do nothing.
I was gonna say...didn't the Ravens bench him largely because he was struggling with their new zone-blocking run scheme? They have since mostly reverted back to the power run game that won them the Super Bowl, but still...
