Gotta agree with Padre...signing free agents like Clabo you look at last years tape "the tape doesn't lie" etc etc and the fact that he is no longer even close to the same player would be extremely difficult to see.
Am I the only one bothered by the fact the Dolphins did not have one single backup OL lineman on their roster who could be used to fill in for Clabo. Instead they had to give up a draft pick for a backup on another team. I would love for any Ireland supporter to please explain to me how after six years as this teams GM, Ireland can't find at least a couple of backup offensive linemen to provide adequate play if a starter goes down or isn't play effectively. God forbid if any of the starting offensive linemen should be injured and miss some games this year. Tannehill is lucky to still be healthy enough to play with the inferior play of the starters now. If the backups are so unreliable that they can't be counted on now and McKinnie had to be traded for. Tannehill will be running for his life on every play if any of these backups do end up having to play.
If I'm Tannehill, I'm crapping my pants right now, picturing the no. 65 offensive tackle who doesn't know the scheme "protecting" my blind side.
Clabo went from top 10, closer to 5 to what like 65th? Yea that's a tough one to see coming even with the change in blocking scheme.
THill has been hit so much I'd think he'd be quite happy with the change, he'd never come out and say that, though he did allude to it in his post game interview: "...if I'd only had a half second more to throw to Hartline..." Translated "..my guys on the offensive line let me down..."
I would love to jump in and bash Ireland for making a bad move but I can't at this point cause I don't mind it...it addressed an area of desperate need, is a sliiiight upgrade and acknowledges what I've seen and we all seen since training camp so it may mean there are 2 or 3 more season saving moves coming. Maybe a huge one. Frankly a huge momentum changing move is gonna be necessary to save Ireland's job as I feel anything short of a division title must result in his firing...not even wildcard playoffs can save him for me...kinda like vikings last year their playoff run was an illusion it made people think ponder and Frazier were long term answers and now they are set back 2,3 years. Again I don't think this mckinnie move is horrible as people are fearing..more moves are on the way.
When Williams planted him the first time, that was hardest sack I have seen him take. I thought he'd be out with a concussion. I couldn't believe the kid got up without being seriously hurt.
I think that's a good point and it speaks to the lack of depth on the team. But we kind of already knew heading into the season that our tackle depth sucked. It was definitely a running story line during preseason and camp.
We have some banged up LBs, so we cut some depth there to carry a 10th OL??? WTFing hell is that about??
Their run blocking grades often perplex me, especially for zone teams. I've seen teams have all their runners average over 4 yards a carry, and most of the starting OL have very negative run blocking grades. That does not add up to me, being a bottom line kind of guy.
I don't know how anyone could see such a huge drop for Clabo and I really thought Louis had a chance to fit in somewhere as well. If he had healed up and played up to his track record we would have had a nice OL who can fill multiple positions.
I stated more than once before the draft that Kiko Alonso was the emotional leader of the Ducks defense in 2012. He kind of reminded me of Romanowski in his heyday.
That's what I'd do. It's too dramatic for this staff though. They don't want to make their initial decisions look wrong by making too many changes.
I go with what I see, PFF is nice and all, bottom line for me is I know what effective looks like. JMartin is a mediocre LT, Clabo is a dumpster fire of a RT. Martin is still weak in the anchoring portion, more of a position blocker, Clabo is merely a tackling dummy wearing shoulder pads, he has some NICE movement plays where he turned and went down the line to pick off his assignment. Man on Man, he can't keep out a 200 pd Db, he looks like he is guessing, when he guesses right the DE/OLB then just steam rolls him with a garden variety bull rush, they don't even need a move, just walk him into the backfield or leave him grasping at air. No way McKinnie is not a more effective blocker, hell even Nate Garner is more effective, as is John Jerry when he played tackle those few games in 2010. If McKinnie is not ready to play, I'd start Garner at RT, either way Tyson Clabo should never see the field in a Dolphins uni again
That would be the one.. Anybody got a clip of that? I'm pretty sure Clabo stopped traffic and waved him through...
Tanny and McKinnie already have a rapport. Did you see that video of them play tennis against each other in the off season? Bonding in anticipation of this future move.
Tyson Clabo should not practice this week, it should be McKinnie and Garner at RT getting all of the practice reps.
Is Clabo a right or left tackle? Let me tell you as a Ravens fan about Bryant McKinnie. Last season we were the worst 9 -2 team offensively in the NFL. Michael Oher @ left tackle and Flacco was running for his life on every down and we couldn't run. Insert Bryant Mckinnie, who had been in Harbaugh's doghouse for reporting out of shape, and Flacco suddenly had all day. When this guy decides to play there isn't a better pass blocker in the NFL. He's a brick wall. What happened then? Bryant was credited, rightfully so, for our Superbowl run and win. Bryant didn't get the contract he was hoping for. As a matter of fact he was ignored by the rest of the league probably because he has a reputation for being lazy. So we were thrilled to get him back so cheap but for that reason I feel he was not motivated. Ravens traded for Eugene Monroe to eventually replace him. Suddenly he was a bit motivated and his last game was very good. In 2011 Flacco enjoyed the best protection he had ever had with Brant at left tackle. Many Ravens fans are now on the boards thanking him for his work here in Baltimore which I would like to extend to him now. I would suggest a healthy incentive only extension to his contract to motivate him. I'm telling you this guy, when at his peak, Is a BEAST! You got a good deal. We all know here in Baltimore that Bryant wanted Miami all along. I'll be watching because Bryant has a fan in me. Thank you again Bryant McKinnie.
Then I guess Clabo joking about cutting Tannehill's brake lines during practice must have meant something too. Or when Martin was laughing about removing the batteries from the Carbon Monoxide alarm in the Tannehill residence.

I can only assume we're going to replace Clay and the TE position with McKinnie who will serve as the second RT along with Clabo, having two linemen do the job of one competent lineman. I'd seriously rather do that than continue to let our line block people one on one and just hope 3 receivers can get open.
Too much money probably. We don't pay for people to keep 17 upright. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
I wonder if the Dolphins will even play McKinnie right away or if they'll wait a few weeks. We could still see Tyson Clabo for a few more games, or perhaps they'll move toward a Nate Garner to take over while McKinnie gets up to speed. That would give Garner the opportunity to keep the job if he played really well.
Or, they can insert Garner at RG and move Jerry to RT, it really would depend on who they feel would be best at the position.
Ya a nice leading w the helmet shot that of course doesn't get called after we got hit for one the quarter before.
True. But doesn't the rule book have specific wording that the QB in question must be named Manning or Brady?
Yes he can play tennis and left tackle also. As a Ravens fan I've seen him at his best and he is a brick wall when motivated. We all know here in Baltimore that Bryant wanted Miami all along so I have a strong hope that you all will be pleasantly surprised. I'll be watching and rooting for Bryant as I may be his biggest fan, party animal and all. lol
You think I was fooking kidding or something???
