10) Iron Maiden: 7) Judas Priest: 3) AC/DC: 1) Black Sabbath: http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/listoftheday/69730/the-25-best-heavy-metal-bands
So.... Alice in Chains is Heavy Metal? Funny how it was between them and Soundgarden with no Nirvana mentioned anywhere.
When I read the title I figured it was his list. You should redo the list to show Winger or Poison on there. He would freak! Well after reading it I can't say it was well put together. Jimi? Aerosmith? Robin Trower????
Yeah, I mainly posted it to hear Pagan go off about this 10) Iron Maiden: Just caught a live concert of theirs from 1985 on--where else?--a sports network. Great, since the music networks can't be bothered. And boy did these guys look kind of funny with all that billowing smoke and weird prancing around--and those spandex tights. In some respects, almost as good as Spinal Tap, and in some ways better since they were serious. "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner" is ponderous, but the hoof-beating gallop of "The Trooper" and just about anything from The Number Of The Beast makes up for their inherent corniness.
Some questionable calls in there for sure. Cool as hell to see Mercyful Fate on the list. I bought the 'Melissa' tape as a young man just by looking at the cool as hell cover, and was hooked.
The comment about Maiden negates the entire list. That knucklehead has obviously NEVER seen them live. I just saw them a week ago-they are, as Pagan describes them, "Gods amongst Insects."
nirvana sux. uriah heep, deep purple are two of my favorite bands. I never saw robin trower or hendrix as metal even though i enjoy their music...... I also don't think aerosmith is metal what so ever....
This is what happens when you have writers who know absolutely nothing about music try and create "the best of" lists for specific musical genres.
You have to love when a list is made by someone who has no ****ing clue what he's talking about. Robin Trower, KISS, Guns & Roses, Aerosmith, Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, Uriah Heep, Rush and Spinal Tap are NOT heavy metal bands....so right off the bat you have a list of 25 in which almost half don't even BELONG on the list. Megadeth anyone? He calls Maiden "corny" yet praises Mercyful Fate. The guy's an ******* who probably is banging the editor's daughter to have this job.
Guys, go to http://digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_metal-art.html . It's simply a metal list, (notice not HEAVY metal) so it includes some questionable bands such as RATM and Motley Crue...but overall it's a FAR better list IMO. They also have other lists for speed/thrash, prog, death metal, etc. *As an FYI, their top 5 are: 1.Sabbath 2.Maiden 3.Priest 4.Metallica 5.Megadeth
No- they're on the Rock n' Roll lists (Greatest Artists and Most Influential)...sorry bro. I didn't say that the list was perfect, just better. Edit: They're also in the Top 20 for Best Live Rock Performers.
Very true... BUT it's the GREAT SOUTHERN TRENDKILL, THAT'S RIGHT, THE GREAT SOUTHERN TRENDKILL, EFF YEAH!!! LOL! Back in the day I rocked Far Beyond Driven on my windshield in Pantera font!!! LOL! Then of course the Great Southern Trendkill... This list is as much crap as that Rolling Stone list of the best 100 guitar albums! Which had no Pantera, or a hundred other greats!
BLASPHEMY!!!!!!! I get it, you didnt like them because they helped end the 'Hair Metal' phase of Rock. You were pissed you had to retire your spandex collection werent you?
I don't know about him, but I didn't like them because they were the most overrated thing ever to hit the rock scene.
The great thing about those guys is they would tell you straight up they were overrated. They had no egos and actually hated the fame that came along with thier success.
Exactly why I hated them....if they hated it so much, stay in your ****ing garage and remain unknown and let one of the THOUSANDS of bands who WANT success have it instead.
They pretty much did just that, signing with a microscopic label called Sub Pop. They just blew up and the rest is history. the great thing about them is even after they blew up they were still an alternative band. I have the "Sold out" DVD and to listen to some of their live performances and realize that at the time they were the biggest band in the World is shocking to me. they were the definition of raw. I know a ton of people despise Nirvana for a variety of reasons. Personally, I love the band. A lot of people say they "ended metal" or whatever. They, IMO, did nothing of the sort. All they did was open up a genre that to some people (including myself) was unknown at that point in time. Discussing them in any metal thread is pointless because they were the furthest thing from metal (I know you know that...LOL!). I'm happy they broke and broke big to be honest. Because of them I discovered bands like Chains, Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Mudhoney. I'm as big a metal head as anybody but in all honesty, the early-mid 90's is still one of my favorite eras ever musically. Nevermind, Ten, Dirt, Facelift, Badmotorfinger, Superunknown, Vs...they are all unbelievable records. Some of that stuff is over 15 years old (THAT makes me feel REALLY old) and it still holds up well and influences a lot of people. I know this will start an arguement with you...LOL!
That's not true, so called "hair metal" was already fizzling out before the "need a decent singer" grunge movement took place.Funny how hair metal lasted about 7 years and grunge lasted about 7 months! All in all, music is like potato chips, everybody thinks they got the best tasting chips with the best spices and ridges and whatnots, when all there is at the end of the day is just a full toilet and an empty pringles can.
