not over. And I wouldn't say it's over if we lose to Cincy either. That 6th playoff seed could go to a team that is 8 and 8 or 9 and 7. If we're 3 and 5 after Thursday, those records are still within reach given the back half of this schedule. Although losing Gibson really hurts. He was a nice comfy blanket for Tannehill. And I don't think Rishard Matthews can replace him alone. Nathan Palmer and Ryan Spadola on the practice squad, I guess one of them gets called up. Or we'll probably sign Julius Pruitt.

Maybe we'll sign Chad Bumphis since we need a slot guy. :shifty:

makes sense... he's on the Broncos practice squad and it's about time we pillaged another team's PS after we lost a couple of guys off ours this season.

Rishard Matthews should do well. Didn't Miami just sign two practice squad receivers recently? Spadola and someone from the Colts?

What does a coaching staff that's been here for a year and a half half to do with what happened in 2009, 2010 and 2011?

After the Bills loss and the 2nd half collapse, it's hard not imagine this season being done. It'll be interesting to see if Miller keeps developing, although he starts to get some traction and pile up yards and this meat head coaching staff takes him out. Don't get it, never will. I guess the other thing that'll be interesting to track is if Tannehill can make it to Week 12. I don't think he's the problem, but I also don't think he's helping much. I want to see him improvise more and take off and run. Not get killed, but make the defense honor that threat of the run. This is a hot mess. It's like groundhog day......

The OP probably meant is this season over, but at this point it's an equally valid question about the entire F.O. and Coaching staff.

We may have heard the death knell signalling the exeunt all stage left.

I feel conflicted b/c it's obvious we should've been winning some of these games. The overall talent is there to win, but not if we continue to play less than 60 minutes. If we can beat Cincy in a likely slobberknocker, which I think is possible, going 5-3 in the second half with a 9-7 record seems plausible.

As deflating as our season sounds at the moment, if we win Thursday, we're still right there in the last wildcard spot, with the teams competing for it having all sorts of problems of their own.

This is how the final WC spot looks
Chargers 4-3 (2-3 in Conference).. *next: Wash...... Notable games remaining: 2x Denver, 2x KC, Cincy, Mia,
Jets 4-4 (2-4 Conference)............ *next: Saints..... Notable games remaining: Carolina, 2x Miami, so if we beat them they're done.
Titans 3-4 (3-2 Conference)......... *next: Rams...... Notable games remaining: 2x Indy, Denver, Zona
Ravens 3-4 (3-3 conference)........ *next: Browns... Notable games remaining: 2x Cincy, Chi, Det, NE
Dolphins 3-4 (2-3 Conference)............................. Notable games remaining: NE, Carolina, SD, 2x Jets
Raiders 3-4 (3-3 Conference)....... *next: Eagles.... Notable games remaining: who am I kidding, they don't stand a chance.

With Houston sh**ting the bed, this thing is still wide open and could easily feature a 9-7 team in the final WC spot..... or dare I say an 8-8 one.... and out of the above group I think we have as good a shot as any at winning that final spot.

The battle for the 6th seed in the AFC will come down to a battle of mediocre teams, us included. No hope with an okay second-half schedule and trailing the 6th and 7th seeded teams by one win? We might not make the playoffs but saying no hope is ridiculous.

I feel like as inconsistent as the Chargers are, they might be the best team of that bunch but have a pretty tough schedule. Tennessee actually has a favorable schedule compared to some but it's hard for me to see them as a playoff team, might be the one that does it though.

It's over. It's arguably been over since the buffalo loss. You can't lose to them with their 4th string QB they traded for right before the season. This team has plenty of talent, but no ability to be consistent.

    - Terrible coaching
    - Injuries
    - Inexperience
    - Offensive line
    - Terrible secondary

Those 5 reasons are why this season is lost. None of those issues are really fixable this season.

At this points I don't have confidence in the Dolphins beating any team left on their schedule. Not even the (0-7) Buccaneers. If I had to predict the final record I would say probably 6-10. With wins against the Bucs, Jets and maybe the Bills even though that is doubtful since the Dolphins couldn't beat them at home with Thad Lewis at QB. I honestly couldn't pick them to beat the Bengals, Panthers, Chargers, Patriots or even the Steelers (in Pittsburgh). Also don't see them sweeping the Jets.

If this team would have taken care of business against the Ravens and Bills they would be a serious threat to make the playoffs. Losing both those games put them in a must win situation against New England. They started out well but folded in the 2nd half. IMO that cost them the playoffs.

Playoffs? PLAYOFFS? Are you kidding me? Playoffs? We're lucky if we can win a game!

Seriously, now. The only resson it's not over is mathematics. We could win out and win the division at 12-4. It's mathematically possible. Realistic? I doubt it.

I don't see how Miami can make the playoffs behind that offensive line. Tannehill is going to have to play out of his mind and I don't think he is at that level yet at least the coaching staff doesn't think so.

A loss to Buffalo, discraceful, and a collapse when leading v Pats is shocking. Sort of smacks of no fire in their bellies and poor coaching with the latter being the most important. I never liked Philbin and his laid back drawl. The team reflects this. Season is over.
PS Andrew Luck is good isn't he?

Yes it's over. If you can't beat Buffalo at home coming off of a bye with Thad Lewis starting there is no "favorable schedule." Unless of course Jacksonville popped up on the schedule six or seven times.

Well I think the Dolphins have an outside shot but they need some confidence this team crumbles at the first sign of adversity lately...that needs to come from Philbin.

At least the Oline held up to standard 4/5 man pressure but they have to iron out how to handle blitzing obviously...Tanny needs to have a "hot read" every obvious passing situation imo holding everyone in for max protect isn't working and having a check down option would work better.

Nolan Carrol is the defenses "Clabo" and if I'm going to have blown coverages let the ****ing rookies learn from it and PLEASE stop coaching and setting the depthchart "scared" it trickles down to the players and they are loosing confidence...again imo.

I don't think so. Truly a little more good luck and our record could be better. If Pats don't get that crazy call on Vernon, maybe we win... If we beat the Bengals we are 4-4 concluding a pretty tough stretch of the schedule. If we lose to the Bengals, then yes it is over.

I know you can say this about many teams in the NFL, but our Dolphins have yet to play a WHOLE game. They've looked either great in one half, and horrible in another half. To me that means the coaches either had a crappy game plan going in and adjusted well, or had a good game plan and failed to adjust. Either way, 7 games through the season with a bye-week and having yet to see a complete game of decent football (if it were going to happen, it probably would've been against Buffalo) is VERY concerning.

And the marriage that this staff has to playing crappy players until it costs them a game (Naanee, Clabo, Thomas) while talented players are underutilized (Bush in the passing game last year, Jordan in any meaningful way now, Odrick as a DE instead of DT last season) just screams that they can't see the forest for the trees.

I think it is, I don't think this team is capable of going on a long winning streak down the stretch, they're too inconsistent. I hope they can, but I dunno. Thursdays game will be the one that lets you know for sure. If we loose, it's going to be tough for Philbin to not loose the lockerroom... loosing 5 straight after starting 3-0 is going to be tough to control, and tough to overcome if you want to make the playoffs.

It must be the non-quitter inside me, I don't care about the signs even if I see them, what I care about is not giving up, I've seen it before where teams have turned it around when all looks lost, why should we be any different? And I don't want to hear because we are the Miami Dolphins and our history and all, take that losers attitude and its no wonder we never turn it around.

Like I said win the Cincy games and you be surprised how rejuvenated everyone would get by it, lose it we're then done.

And keep in mind we always play Cincy tough, historically we have their number. It can be done.

    Ovvvvvvvaaaaaaaahhhhhh.

Sorry thought the Boston voice would be ironic.

Same sentiments as a few. We lost two games at home in October where we should've come away winning at least one. We didn't and it will cost us.

I think we'll get hosed Thursday. We may stick around for a quarter, but it'll be a bloodbath.

How crazy is it that just 3 weeks ago we w were talking about winning a division, the job Ireland had done, Philbin was doing, and Tannehill was a franchise QB? Distant memories.

What's crazy is that there is a possibility that in 3-4 months we could be looking at another complet e overhaul.

Wish we were able to reel in Harbaugh....

I answered yes but my prediction coming into the season was that we weren't good enough to be a playoff team. I thought we'd be 9-7, now I'm thinking more like 7-9. We have way too many issues with pass protection, giving up sacks and turning the ball over to win 10+ football games.

I'll admit I did get suckered in at 3-0. For a month, it was fun to dream that we finally turned the corner and that the pieces were coming together. That dream has ended. I've never seen a team have a complete meltdown like we did against NE. Coming into the season, I would have never expected at win at NE. I would have expected a hard fought game that challenged the Patriots until the end. Not seeing our entire football team dismantle.

    Hope springs eternal in the human breast;
Man never Is, but always To be blest:
The soul, uneasy and confin'd from home,
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.

I think if you took a poll of fans with this question, and overlapped then with fans of the 2004 Red Sox being down 3-0 against the Yankees...youd see similar results.

Ive been a fan of this team since Griese was QB, but most of my memories begin with the Woodstrock years. I remember the heartbreaking Chargers game, watching the Pats beat us the year we beat the Bears.

Will we make the playoffs? Eh..probably not. But I can tell you this.

Every single fan who answered "No" to that poll, is gonna take one hell of allot more satisfaction should we do so, then the others who said, yes.

The season isn't over because the players lost 4 in a row. It's over because the people controlling the players are who they are. This team has to be cursed. The GM is more than likely gone this year and who knows what Ross will do to restructure the front office and the effects from that. I'd give it 75% chance Ireland is gone, 50% Philbin is out as a result.
