This team is not a good one. Some talent is there but they can't put it together. I'm not letting this evil team get my hopes up again only to make me miserable. I have tickets to the Bengals game and will be taking my 13 yr old nephew (who is quickly losing his fandom) but after that I'm emotionally checking out. I need to protect my sanity. No it's not over, but I don't care at this point.
Why. On what basis should we be optimistic? What has this franchise shown for the last 10+ years that leads you to believe there is some winning streak and playoff berth in the future?
I voted yes, as really do think we're not going to make the playoffs now...but, come Thursday and even if we lose that, come MNF against the Bucs, I know I'll be thinking "just win this and we still have a chance". In reality I'll never admit it's over until it mathematically is.
Why do you need a reason to have hope and believe there is a playoff berth in the future. Did you believe we would open 3-0? I mean..honestly, there is nothing we can do to alter the course of the Dolphins season. So, you choose to either not give up, and believe or you dont. But, I ask you, whats the cost in believing? Is there more upside to giving up? My personal nature is, never give up until elimination. Its how I approached sports all my life, both those I played, and those I watched.
Its not over but its only a glimmer of light still peaking through the door. Miami pretty much has to go 7-2 the rest of the way to put us at 10-6 and that probably guarantees us a spot. Im not slamming the door on the possibility but we're a young team that needs to learn how to win and it needs to start immediately.
The key thing here is what you've pointed out...we've lost 4 in a row and anyone who looked at Tannehill in the 4th quarter, he LOOKED defeated...there was no "fire" in his eyes and what's worse? There was no sense of urgency in the offense in running a hurry up offense...they just lolly-gagged up to the line of scrimmage. I love my Dolphins and was truly excited about this season, especially how we opened up on the road but once upon a time back in the mid 90's a friend of mine described my beloved Dolphins with a single word that irritated me...she said they were "weak". That's the word I would have to use to describe what I've seen from the last 4 games; weak in the face of adversity and no fire, no sense of urgency. I see a 7-9 or even worse, 6-10 record this season :-(
Well, the season isn't over as we have to play 9 more games, but I see very little reason for optimism that we can go on any sort of run. Our issues have been the same the entire year, we can't pass protect and we turn the ball over too much. Those things were issues during the wins and they haven't been corrected. Our defense really isn't as good as we all thought it would be either. We are regressing at the time we should be improving. One of the reasosns I allowed myself toa ctually get excited and hopeful during the 3-0 start is thatw e had issues but were figuring out ways to win. I figured the issues would have been minmized by now and thus we would continue winning. Instead, we have solved none of our issues and we are finding ways to lose. If we lose Thursday, which I imagine we will, this thing is going down the drain in a hurry.
Here is how I see it. Every single game we have played, minus the Saints game, we have outplayed the opponents to some degree. We should have won the Ravens, Bills, and Pats games. We didnt, and that tells me this team does not know how to win...or lacks the confidence needed to win on a consistent basis. But, if we can win Thursday..there is 6 games in a row, where there is NO reason why we cant win them. Not one. Im putting it out there right now. If we win on Thursday, we are at worst 9-5 heading into the rematch with New England. Before that game...Id like to see this poll re run....and wonder how many people who stuck a fork in the Phins...will man up and keep their same answer then.
Yet we figured out ways to win the 1st 3 games. We very easily could've lost the Indy and Falcons games. We made the same types of errors in those games that we have amde the last 4. So what happened? We stopped making plays in the 4th quarter to win the last games (forget the Saints game). For as well as we might've played at times we fell apart. So what's the fluke? Was it the 3-0 start or is it the 4 game losing streak? I think the answer is closer to the losing streak
It feels like the season is OVER for this team. A loss this Thursday and I think we are done with any realistic shot at a playoff spot. A win against the Bengals and we can dream again, but this is a very flawed team.
Youre right that we can win every game remaining on the schedule. In terms of talent, we are as talented as every team we have left including New England. Problem is, like I said, we apparently have not learned how to win and battle vs adversity. Its frustrating. One constant in those first three games is we played with the lead the majority of the Browns and Colts games and the Falcons game they didnt put us away when they had the chance. The effort is there most games from what I see, the results are not.

Dion Jordan played 17 snaps. Our best draft pick has been our kicker...and he's been on a cold streak. Once again the draft fails to produce anyone who can make an impact, and before people say it could take years, we all have watched the Colts draft players who have made an instant contribution. At the very least, they should be playing in games, especially the one you traded up to get.
Because he's a reasoning, rational human being who is being asked the question of whether this football team has any chance of making the playoffs.
Unfortunately for you, it makes no difference whatsoever whether YOU give up on the team. The players have given up, and that's what makes the difference.
Because at the slightest sign that things are going against them in the game, they fall apart. They stop executing, lose their concentration and crap the bed. They aren't showing mental toughness late in the game and they haven't been since the Saints game.
This isn't at all a valid complaint. Draft picks not contributing isn't really a huge surprise, or even a sign of a bad draft. And what are the Colts rookies contributing?
OK....well. You seem to have all the answers so....congratulations. Please do me a favor and stay quiet while the team turns the season around, and is in the picture mid December. I really dont want to hear much cheering from your section at that time.
The team is averaging 5.3 net yards per pass attempt, which is 27th in the NFL. This is after spending the 8th overall draft pick on a QB in 2012, hiring a new head coach, and spending $60M on a FA WR. None of those moves have fundamentally made the team any better. The most important things for a football team are QB and HC, and while I wouldn't say Tannehill or Philbin are prohibitively bad, neither are good enough to make this team consistently above average.
when did it ever begin ? i never got excited about the start to season at all , beat average teams and struggled at doing that ! and those issues we all saw in winning those games were never addressed and now we got this ! it should be over for ireland!! maybe sherman as well and some players
No, I don't have all the answers, just the answers to the questions you asked me. I really am not that concerned with what you want. I'll continue to post as I see fit.
Philbin was supposed to bring a 'high powered offense' to Sofla... not with the wounded ducks Tannehill launches @ 20+. Does Philbin seem to lack attitude, sure but ultimately Sherman is trying to play dink n dunk Tom Brady ball with Tannehill and it aint working. Wallace is twiddling his thumbs collecting 60 million while hes utilized incorrectly. I just dont know how we manage to ruin wr's, no matter what coach or QB.
wide receivers are overrated. If you have a HC and QB in place that are of superior quality, you shouldn't have to go out and spend $60m to upgrade your receivers. Look at the Packers last night. I could only recognize one of their receivers. 24 of 29, 285 yards and 2 touchdowns for Rodgers though and the Packers put up 44 points. Maybe we should approach the Steelers for Roethlisberger in trade and reunite him with Wallace.
I thought, after the preseason that we were at best a 6-10 team. We are right on schedule. With Keller, I'd have given us 8-8... The OL, after years and years of revamping and adding and adjusting, still is not a quality, NFL caliber OL.... The running backs are shaky, mainly due to inexperience. The WR corp was a bright spot, but now it appears that Gibson is gone so they've taken a hit. Tanny is still developing, has good games, good halves and then has some bad games and halves... The D is most disappointing. I really thought this D would be much better, but they get run over in the second half of every game, it seems... The O is the same way, seems to work well in the first half but can't move the ball in the second half of games... It's disappointing as a fan, but we've come to expect this type of team performance...sad, but true...
not so bad... plethora of young talent & over-all excellent coaching on board. everything begins in the trenches, the bookends looked good in first half, maybe there is a fix in the making Tannehill needs to quiet down & not let the game get in his head, things will improve as the year evolves Wallace & Ryan need to go play catch somewhere until they are on the same page. no more excuses! Thigpen has a a start on this offense. he's a play-maker, just a matter of finding him a position on offense. they have to play to win for both halves & all quarters of the game. simple as that... consistency.
Oh....it's over. If we lost on a upswing maybe not. But we didn't score in the second half. Bills will sweep. Pats will sweep. For ****s and giggles we split with Jets. That's 9-7 right there. It's over. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
EXCELLENT coaching? Where, pray tell, is the evidence of this "excellent" coaching? In which second-half collapse did they have "excellent" coaching?
Do you really think this team wins 9 games? They're straight garbage. As for the thread topic, it's over. I've seen this movie before. This team is Charmin soft and has been since the days of Madison and Surtain.
No, I don't. I was describing the games I thought we would lose while ignoring the rest. 9-7 is the ceiling to me just looking at division games. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4
Stick a fork in them, this season is done and we don't have the coaching or talent to turn it around IMVHO, I fully expect this bunch of idiots to find a way to lose to Tampa even. We start off with a game plan and compete in the first half, the opponent coaching staff makes adjustments at halftime, we're done. Ireland sure plugged the OL with McKinney, SIX sacks. Tannehill is turning into David Carr from shell shock, Ross needs to clean house completely, and get a real GM, real HC and real OC/DC IN HERE. And not going OL IN THE FIRST ROUND SHOULD ONLY BE AN option if no real franchise QB is where we pick in 2014 draft. (Top 5 IMO) If the current OL coach is not fired TODAY, then Ross has no cahones and needs to bring in Carl Peterson to run this franchise. (I hate Carl Peterson BTW). We now return you to your more reasonable programming.
Oh if we lose to Tampa Bay, it's over for Philbin and Ireland. And I can see it happen. People are going to call that the Gruden Bowl. Winner gets Gruden, loser signs Ireland to another extension.
After the Falcons win I thought this team had turned the corner. They were making plays needed to win games even when they weren't playing their best. That was a change from what they have been over the past decade. I thought finally, they had that winning mentality. Well, that certainly was not the case as they have constantly come up empty when they needed big plays from week 4 on. At this point I've pretty much given up on this season, and to be honest, I don't have a ton of hope for this team in the near future either. The coaching staff looks pretty lost, our most consistent playmaker on offense has a serious knee injury, our line is a joke, and while he has loads of talent our young QB is far from a sure thing. It's very frustrating to be a Dolphins fan right now.
What sucks is the Patriots are so much in reach right now ... and we're effing blowing it! Imagine if they reload the team again a la 2007.
I don't agree with that. I mean I do but I don't. The talent of the pass-catching group is a necessity. That's evident all around the league. We couldn't enter another season with just Hartline & Bess, as we've already seen how that turned out and heard what opposing defenders had to say about how easy our offense was to defend last year. Something had to be done. Even Seattle sacrificed a 1st rounder AND $67.0M to address their WR situation which wasn't nearly as bad as ours. Add Harvin's contract to Sidney Rice's and they allocated $108.0M to new receivers. We had a specific need, which was stopping defenses from playing us in a 20 yard box. There were few potential impact players available capable of such outside of Mike Wallace. What do you think will happen in Denver when Demaryius Thomas & Decker are set to hit FA? Will the Broncos forego signing them b/c their contracts will be huge and they have Petyon Manning? Same question regarding Nelson & Cobb b/c Green Bay has Rodgers & McCarthy? Ditto for Jimmy Graham when the Saints have Brees & Sean Payton and with Colston already signed for $36 million? Why did New England fork out $115.0M for Gronk, Hernandez, Welker, and Lloyd last year when they have Brady & Belichick? Tom is playing like a shell of his former self w/o all that talent around him and has needed the help of the refs against us, 3 two-minute chances against New Orleans, and a last second FG against Buffalo to keep from being 3-5 at the moment, and that's not including the 13-10 win over the Jets where 3 points came from a fumble recovery down to the Jets 8 yard line. Would the Lions be 5-3 and in the playoff hunt if they didn't spend $150.0M to keep Calvin Johnson? What will the impressive Bengals do when AJ Green is set to make $80+ million? What I agree on is that we shouldn't have had to go out and spend $69 million on receivers in FA. We should've already had talented receivers on the roster to give that money to, but unfortunately we placed minimal emphasis on the position in the draft over the past 6 years and we're now paying for it. The position was a major problem and had to be addressed.
