Does Getting 3 First Round And 2 Second Round Picks Sound Very Unrealistic?

*Right now, we have 2 seconds and one first round picks, which I consider 2 first rounds and one second (because our early second is #32 overall, due to NE's forfeited pick...).

*Parcells (a guy who can be very connected with the Dallas' staff) is here at VP

*Dallas has 2 first round picks and a second...

*Dallas wants McFadden so bad (rumors have it)

*Miami wants to keep McFadden out of his AFC-East rivals (the Jets and the Pats have top 5 picks)

*The Cowboys and the Dolphins can contact themselves to reach an agreement in which Dallas gets the first overall, Miami gets the Cowboys' both firsts and their second (perhaps another pick in the next years' draft?), the Cowboys would pay that price for any top 5 team (McFadden will surely go within the top 5 picks) and is a price that the Cowboys should be willing to pay if they really want McFadden...

Do we get better or worse out of that trade?

Let me phrase it that way: I've seen highway robberies that weren't that ugly. Trading out of the #1 pick for two first round picks which figure to be in the 20-25 range (with one pick possibly being #30 or #31) would be the mother of all daft draft day moves. Even if Dallas was to offer their first round pick in 2009 and two more 2nd round picks as well, it would be a questionable move for us - and it would certainly be one heck of a dumb move for the Cowgirls.

To make a long story short: I don't see a trade happening with Dallas. Our best shot is to have one team (Atlanta? Carolina?) falling in love with Matt Ryan and looking to secure him by trading up. Unfortunately, the Falcons will have a new FO in place and new FOs generally don't like trading up. Once again the Dolphins will hold a high pick in a draft that lacks a top notch QB - and that's always bad news for a team trying to trade down. It's kind of funny actually: We even suck at sucking ;)

In order to trade with the boys i'd want:
-both of thier first round picks
    -Marcus Spears
    -Anthony Spencer

This adds two starters to our front seven and a possible another 2 starters( Fred Davis, best o-linemen). That gives us four starters. I don't know about anyone else but i'd rather have 4 great players then one excellent player. Both Spears and Carpenter were drafted by Parcells and the Cowboys have plenty of depth at those positions to let them go.

according to the draft no matter what the Dolphins are gunna get cheated but the best choice senerio is to take the Cowboys 2 picks and trade players for more first round picks... The Cowboys want Mcfadden and look to buil the Aikman Irvin and Smith thing back up.... The best thing is to trade down for a team like the Dolphins because they cant benefit at all with drafting Dorsey (because he doesnt fit the 3-4) or Mcfadden because yall have Ronnie Brown.

Without even looking at the draft value chart i can tell you that Dallas would be stealing our top pick with a trade that lop sided. It would take all of Dallas first day picks plus their 4th to even come close to equaling the value of a top pick. Sure they could toss in a pick next year and keep their 3rd, but that pick would most likely have to be their 1st because its no secret the Cowboys are likely to be among the NFLs elite next year as well. Especially when that top pick lands them one of the best atheletes to come out of college in a long time.

I think the Cowboys interest in McFadden is way over inflated. I think they are really happy with Barber. He's averaging 4.9 yards are carry. There is no way the trade the farm to move up for one player. Just because they have a relationship with Parcel doesn't mean they'll let him rip them off. This is a pipe dream only less likely.

That would work if one of the 1st rounders was in the top 10.

Yes they are happy with Barber but who knows if he'll be able to handle the load alone with Julius Jones becoming a free agent next year. Also every touch he takes is a touch when he is fresh due to splitting time with Jones. No matter how well Barber plays he'll never give the Cowboys that Aikman/Smith/Irvin combo Jerry Jones is looking for. If they were to draft McFadden, they'd have an almost unstoppable tandem

ya know, u can still get 2 great players in the 20-30 section. u can still get Fred Davis (TE) which personally, i think we desperately need him. u can also still get a shutdown corner like Mike Jenkins or Justin King (if we dont get Trufant or Asomugha), or u can still get a good Safety. u can also still get Frank Okam (biiiiiiiiig DT) which we also need.

now if we keep the 1st pick, we'd be getting Long or injury-prone Dorsey. LONG i think, is the only person worth the #1 pick. some people speculate trading Jason Taylor for a 1st round pick, a guy whos 34 and has 10 sacks on the year, pro bowl, still has 5 years left in him....i tend to think he too, can be had for a 1st round pick...probably between 12-18. where u can find someone like Dan Connor or Kenny Phillips.

so now u got 3 first round picks.....can we afford that???

Explain to me how getting one player that is supposed to be great better then getting about 4-5 quality starters. Especially if we were to pick Long or Dorsey, both of which have questions about them. I'd rather take a chance on drafting 3-4 players with questions in thier game then take one player who could just as well be a bust. Atleast with that was brought up we have one deffinate starter in Spears, a player that has player great when given the chance in Carpenter and possble starters at much needed positions that we could sure up our o-line as well as our d-line all in one trade. I'd much rather take less for the #1 pick and pick up 4-5 quility players.

    .

Yea we'll be able to afford 3 first rounders, we have over like 25 millions to spend. Exactly what i was thinking, great post but i don't we'll be able to get a mid first for Taylor. The only way a team spends a 1st on Taylor is if they are one great player on D from being a super bowl contender, if we did get a 1st i'd deff be from a playoff team so around the 22-31st picks. I can deff see a team on the outside brink of making the playoffs give up a mid 2nd for him tho.

my guess would be the cleveland browns, or minnesota vikings...their past defense sucks, taylor could really help. maybe even washington...but with how good cleveland has been, it wouldnt surprise me to see them in the mold for taylor.

The problem with barber is he looks like he cant handle the load he just doesnt have that burst of speed to take it through some of th big holes the O-line has opened up for him. If Dallas had a back with speed they would be Major trouble for even a team like the Pats... The Pats wouldnt be able to take that kind of offense.

yea i doubt Cleveland would trade even thier second because that leaves them with no first day picks. I would say Denver is more of a possibility.

Miami's Pick has a Draft Points Value Chart worth 3000
Dallas' 2 first rounders combined are worth 1350

Dalls would have to give up roughly their 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks to even get close to making this work. Not gonna happen. However, being as how Parcells built that team and knows the players well, players could be added into the deal to make it happen. I hope it does, but Im not holding my breath..

I thought Dallas traded their first round pick in 08 to Philly to move up to pick A. Spencer. I could be mistaken, but anyway....

Thats the wrong avenue to go with that trade anyway.

When you are picking first overall, you really don't want to drop that far. I think the Raiders might have an eye on McFadden to team him up with JaMarcus Russell.

And I think they are picking top ten. If they are picking 6th or 7th, then you get their first and second and maybe a fourth.

Then we could pick whoever falls to us (Jake Long, Chris Long, Gholston, DT from USC) and have three 2nd round picks.

As for FA, I would target a DL and S. I would try to load up on WRs that are right now considered second tier (Terrence Copper, Patrick Crayton, perhaps Matt Jones, Michael Clayton). If we sign a plethora of those guys, surely one or two of them would pan out with the guys we have now.

I think after the first round, our 2nd and 3rd rounders will be linemen.

Two wildcards who I think we could get late both from LSU are Matt Flynn and Jacob Hester. Perhaps both PS players the first year...but both are smart and work hard. Hester might even be able to make the team because hes faster than advertised, he blocks, can play STs.....Flynn would be a developmental guy but is coachable and could be a reliable, long term backup that gives your peace of mind once we work out who can be the starter in a couple of years.

I really like Hester. He's plenty tough and he just keeps coming at you all day long. We could find a place for an athlete like him.

there was talk about trading our 1st to Atlanta for their 1st, 2nd and DeAngelo Hall...

that wouldnt sound so bad...add Marcus Trufant and it would be hard for NE to pass all over us.

    Well away from here
So jason taylor is gonna play for 5 more years until he's 39................are you serious?

have you seen Keith Traylor this year? He's 39. And he doesn't rely on speed.

I agree, we won't get more than a late second for Jason Taylor..., I'd rather to keep him and let him teach the new boys (if he accepts to stay here and not pursuit a Super Bowl team contender for playing there...).

    No to Hall

I would rather try to trade down with Oakland for their 1st and the rights to Asomugha, if we were looking to add a CB. I really don't like the idea of trading too far down in the draft (w/ Dallas), I would rather stay in the top 10 and select Gholston.

Hopefully Parcells can lure a BIG NT to Miami (Haynesworth?). /prayer
