Guys...the local beat guys HATE this staff and Ireland. They want them all fired, and are now applying pressure.

Well now, time for Philbin to show leadership.

This sort of thing either breaks a team or makes it, usually it breaks us only to have a meaningless win streak to end the yr and put us in that #15 draft slot or so

They've been ripping the living hell out of the front office and particularly the coaching staff for the last 2 weeks, I mean seriously ripping them on local radio.

I can understand the dislike for Ireland, he's an incompetent, pompous ***.

I can't get dislike for Joe Philbin. He's a good man. I just think he's been sabotaged by poor choices on his staff.

I feel like he's going to be the GM for the next ten years somehow.

Back on topic, I wonder how Shula would have handled this situation.

If this indeed a mental problem issue. I wish him well and hope he gets the help he needs to overcome this issue.

That still doesn't change my view that he was merely a mediocre offensive lineman since he came into the league last year.

Alot of fans want to see this team succeed...not see it blow up because of local media agendas

Nope. It all went to **** when the coaching staff started getting exposed. We had 3 weeks of stuff on film and in 3 of the next 4 games we were facing 3 of the best head coaches in the NFL. This staff is getting their heads kicked in, weekly.

Seems like an unfortunate event for all parties. The kid is clearly feeling the pressure, wants desperately to succeed for his teammates and to fulfill his personal goals and knows he's not. I can easily see him crack with an unexpected emotional reaction when his peer group shuns him, bc he doesn't know it's a prank and thinks he's being ostracized for his play. I think above all else, it simply demonstrates the pressure he's putting on himself. Not an entirely bad thing, IMO.

Not the wisest of moves by his teammates either, even if the hope was to do the exact opposite and let him know his teammates wanted to lighten things up for him with a little laugh. Generally speaking, pranks are pulled on guys the team likes and wants to laugh with and not the odd ducks that everyone keeps their distance from. The whole thing just looks to have turned out poorly for all parties and not what anyone wanted. Don't think Philbin has anything to do with it. How would you feel if you heard Philbin was so tight assed that he forbid the guys from joking around with each other ?

I feel like he's going to convince Ross that there's plenty of talent to win and it's Philbin's fault that's not happening....

It's amazing how quickly they turned on Philbin. Probably because Philbin is going the Belichick route of never saying anything. Yet somehow these guys discover information anyway. Almost as if the media has better things to do than to piss on the head coach…

He did it once and got to pick his own coach. Can't use the same explanation twice. I hope not, anyway.

Different era completely. You never heard about any player having this type of problem back when Shula was the HC. Shula traded the best safety in the NFL, Jake Scott, in the 1970's because he didn't like Scott's attitude at the time. I have to imagine that Shula would not have any type of patience for the behavior of Martin yesterday and he would have probably cut or traded him as soon as he could.

The world is much different today and mental problems are dealt with much by the NFL teams in a more humane manner today than they were years ago. Shula today in his 80's would certainly view this issue in a far more compassionate manner than the Shula of the 1970's and 1980's who wouldn't let his players have water breaks during the hot preseason or in season practices, because he felt drinking water was a sign of a player being out of shape. Today players are required to drink water during practice and games to maintain their health.

    Different time, different era.

The reason the local beat guys don't like Philbin is because he didn't really form any relationships with them. Tony Sparano became fast friends with Armando Salguero and used him as his mouthpiece, Philbin ignores all of them and is rude, cold and dismissive to them in his press conferences.

I think we lose by 112, and Ross fires everybody including Hank Williams Sr., and moves the team to Bumf**k Egypt, and, and, an asteroid hits Miami, and, and,

Get well soon Jon. No one deserves to be sick.

The media has absolutely nothing to do with it. The record over the six years that Ireland had been the teams GM and Philbin's 10-13 record over the last season and a half is the reason there is pressure on this staff and Ireland.

If Ireland and Philbin don't want this pressure, the teams needs to start winning a lot more games than they lose. It is as simple as that. I didn't see a lot of negatives being written about this team when they were 3-0. Blaming the media for putting pressure on the organization is pure poppycock. The pressure has been put on this organization by the fans who have stopped attending games in record numbers in recent years.
The media is only responding to the play on the field and the negative reaction of fans to the mediocre play of this franchise for the past decade and a half.

Since part of that is aimed at me, I'll defend myself. I have nothing against Martin and do hope he gets the help he needs. His official nickname from the team is Big Weirdo. I was mostly making a tongue in cheek comment about his nickname and how "weird" the whole situation is.

This is why I don't like the local media. Not a single quote from a single player or coach but they're "reporting" the team is on the verge of collapse or mutiny. Yeah, OK.

Darlington got a spot on NFL network with his "dissension in the ranks" non story and a day later the rest of the media jack asses are swooping in to vulture attention w their own horse Sheeit rumors. No wonder the team hates them...

The Martin situation might just be overblown. Jason Taylor has told stories about guys getting pissed and throwing dumbells at teammates in the locker room. Then again, Martin might be going through issues unknown to the public. Either way, social media reporting is lazy reporting without proper sources and just causes distractions.

It does seem (following the reporters on Twitter for a long time) that there is some pent up negative emotions that are just waiting for an excuse to get out. Just a crack was needed. Not saying that some is legitimate or not, just that it was a matter of time.
