obviously if he has a mental illness we all would understand, but all we know right now is that Nate Garner is quoted as saying that it was "normal locker room stuff", and he had a hissy fit and left the team. Until I hear a diagnosis for some kind of mental illness, he needs to just go get some vagasil IMO.

And you "empathy" guys are hiliarious, I'm the youngest of 3 brothers who are both over 6 foot and 250lbs. I got my @ss kicked all the time mentally and physically. I've played on many football, basketball, and baseball teams, and I have recieved and dished out practical jokes that make the cafeteria incident look kindercare. So yes, I know how it feels to be the butt of jokes, I just don't understand how someone could think the best way to handle it is to quit and go home.

Again though, if he has a mental illness, I retract my previous statements.

I think the point you're missing is that the "ridiculous empathy guys" think Martin has a mental issue. They are not saying Martin was normal and should have just sucked it up.

Maybe some guys are just quieter and more loner types and don't want to be involved in that kind of stuff.

If Martin told his teamates he wasn't interested in being part of pranks and too leave him out of it, they should have done so. If they still involved him after he spoke with them, then he should've brought it to the coaches, who then should've taken care of it.

I get that a locker room isn't like all other work environments, but if somebody doesn't like what you're doing, even if you don't think there is anything malicious going on, just stop. Joke around with the people who like to joke around.

One of my teammates was called "pee boy" for 2 years because someone mixed piss in his gatoraid powder and had a chugging contest with him at football camp.....thats disgusting, but it was high school....and that **** happens....sucks to say.

Look...I hate bullying as much as anyone, but, Im having some difficulty with this one. First, a football locker room, hell any locker room, this is common place.

Look at all of the hundreds of players that have come through the NFL in the last, oh, I dont know....60 years.

Not one....has left a team, because he was getting picked on. Or, let me rephrase that, none that I know of. Isnt it possible that Martin is just a tad over sensitive? He has been called the Big Weirdo for what...almost two seasons now. Now we have the NFLPA making a very public inspection to find out what is going on. I just have a very hard time believing it was THIS bad. And..now its gotten to the point where he has to leave, oh yeh, after he gets moved back to right tackle because he wasnt cutting it at Left. Dude..if you were a good LT, you wouldnt get moved.

Well, that perhaps changes things, but I don't think we can properly judge the situation until we know more.

All I'm saying if that you are razzing a particular guy and he makes clear to you that he doesn't like it, just stop doing it. It shouldn't be a hard decision for adults to make. Kids are one thing, these are all grown men, including the guys doing the pranking.

Now beat writers (former) are saying they have seen Martin be bullied. Then retracted walking that fine line of legalize. Gotta love the SoFla (former) media.

I agree that Martin handled the situation poorly by simply walking out. An adult, with adult responsibilities can't just walk out on them without explanation or notifying your boss. On that we agree.

But a professional football locker room, even if it is different from other work palces, is still a work place. You should try and act professionally and respectfully to your co-workers. Again, if there are 9 olinemen and 8 of them love pranking and joking around but one guy doesn't and makes that clear to you, then stop involving him.

Now if Martin didn't let anyone know he was having a problem then that's a different story, but I presume we will find out more facts as we go along

if you're 6'5, 310 lbs and you let someone bully you, then you need to be bullied. dez bryant didnt take that rookie hazing crap, that's why his teammates fear and respect him. man up, big weirdo. it's even more sad because you're not even a rookie and still getting hazed.

Looks like the media is already is convict mode:

    http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-s...athan-martin-calling-163745006--nfl.html?vp=1

I told him on twitter (@YahooSchwab) that if I was ever one trial I would hate for him to be on my jury because he probably convict before he heard my story, then I asked him what evidence he had of Martin being bullied besides Martin's word.

I think everybody acknowledges that there were pranks. The question is whether or not those pranks rose to a different level for Martin to the extent they could be considered bullying.

Obviously, Martin had some type of problem.

I think the crux of the issue is when this occurred. Just last week Martin lost his job after performing it badly since he came to Miami. The guy was at the lowest point in his profession career, and when the lunchroom prank happened he just lost it.

If he would have handled it differently, responding by physically assaulting teammates, would our response be? Would we encourage him for such actions? Certainly the couching staff would have suspended him, or worse. To me it sounds like he lost his cool, and removed himself from the situation. Not the most professional way of handling things but that's what he decided to do.

I wouldn't doubt that the switch was part of it, but who knows?

You would hope that an educated guy like him would at least go to Philbin's office, explain the situation, and ask for an excused absence, but I guess the frustration of the moment overcame any logic.

It's a crappy situation for all involved.

Exactly, if they did go over the line then it needs addressing, but I don't think it will matter because these days you only need to cry out "bullies" and people are immediately sympathetic without any questioning.

Yeah he is arguing with me that he doubts its made up because a reporter he knows for years is reporting this, it might be true but not because Martin said so, they don't want to wait for the facts at all. Terrible reporting.

That's hilarious. I'm sure Ware and others are terrified of him. No, Dez is an emotional child that has to be handled w/ kid gloves, or maybe boxing gloves. Don't know about Martin.

Egnew seemed to sort of go into a shell last year and iirc there were reports he was having a hard time in the locker room and was being called anonymously soft by players in the media. He had sort of a glazed look to him for a lot of the season. I wonder if he was getting "bullied" too and nearly had a meltdown like Martin's but was able to overcome it.

i got called a name once i didnt like. He thought it was funny to do it again at my expense. Took it upon myself to throw him up against a wall by the throat and have a quiet word 1 inch from his face. Red mist helps me out more times than i can count but what works for me doesnt work for others. Im no hard nut, im soft as **** usually but everybody has different levels of coping. Martin wears a Phin uni last time i looked. You wouldnt know it going by some lame posts on here.

Did you see how Incognito got his neck injury? I watched the play and saw nothing. Must be stress related eh? Wasnt Incognito named as one of the players to put Egnew down regarding his body not being NFL ready in his rookie season?

Incognito is a f'in waste. I never wanted him in Miami. He doesn't have a "tough" bone in his soft body. He's dirty period. He thinks his dirty rep means he's a harda** when in fact he is a big pu**y that gets pushed around constantly.

What a *****. Sorry this is the NFL not romper room. can you imagine Dick Butkus dealing with a bullying issue? I give Tight end Egnew credit. He was called a ***** last year and he's making catches. You can't take the heat leave. Don't come back Martin. I have NO sympathy for you.

I understand the boys will be boys thing, but there are lines you don't cross. violence, even if little, or taking/destroying personal possessions are crossing it IMO. I think whoever does so deserves an *** whooping, as do those who participate in anyway.
