So it looks like Martin is backing off what he said in his text to Incognito when he told them it wasn't about them, based on the Dolphins statement it looks like it is.

    AMERICA!
Hard to see him coming back now if he's throwing teammates under the bus.

This just being a media feeding frenzy with no substance is also starting to be less plausible imo.

So we now have validation of at least several points , I hope not , but I see some damning evidence and behaviour being brought to light .

I dont' know what attributes Ireland seeks when evaluating offensive lineman, but he apparently needs to add testicles and a spine.
Forgive me if this comes across as insensitive, but given this latest statement, sympathy is not a response that comes to mind.

Whatever will Hard Knocks use to fill the time that used to be the Rookie Show and haircuts?

The whole thing is going to work out as a positive for Miami in the end.

    1. The league is going to investigate and they're not going to be inclined to find anything. This isn't like Bountygate where the league is appalled that SOME teams do stuff like this. This is something that I wouldn't be surprised to find all 32 teams in the NFL do as far as rookie hazing is concerned (making them pay for dinners, contribute to pools, etc). The NFL is not about to open up a witch hunt that encompasses the entire league.

    2. The league is probably going to focus for the most part on Jonathan Martin's having approached Joe Philbin about his issues in the Spring, and what if anything Philbin did to address the issues Martin raised. The output of that could range from a fine for Philbin (which is a slap on the wrist) to nothing at all, to the Dolphins dismissing Philbin for it. It's unlikely that draft picks would be taken away. If Philbin is dismissed, I'm at the point now where I don't take that as an especially bad thing.

    3. Since it was Jeff Ireland that picked Jonathan Martin who has become a full-on locker room cancer (yes, that's what he's doing right now, he's being a cancer) then this will be all the more reason for those buzzing in Steve Ross' ear to advise him that Ireland needs to go, and that will be a good thing most likely. Unless they replace him with the next Matt Millen, or course.

    4. You know that Miami was likely going to give Jonathan Martin another year of starting at one of the tackle spots. You know it. And that would've likely hurt the team because the bottom line is this guy is not a good football player. This situation coming to a head will save the team from themselves. They'll be forced to move on and that's most likely going to be a good thing, unless whoever ends up making the personnel decisions just finds Miami the next Marc Colombo or Tyson Clabo. And even then, that would not be significantly different from what they had with Martin.

    5. This kind of thing can often be a rallying point for the locker room to band together and play well. We may have already seen it on Thursday. The bottom line is I'm sure 95% of the locker room have no effing clue what the hell Jonathan Martin is talking about, and they are not likely to enjoy AT ALL having their names dragged through the mud as if they're all bullies. Philbin did what he could to go to bat for them, releasing a statement and then ending up looking bad because that very day after releasing the statement the Dolphins received allegations of misconduct that in the earlier statement they specifically said they're unaware of. So I doubt the players are making any connection of this as being a reason to sell out on the coach. They're just going to be pissed, and that may not be a bad thing.

I doubt any of this happens. Maybe number 5.

At the end of the day we're in playoff contention and that's all that matters. Clabo player very well on Thursday so if he keeps that up we'll be in good shape. Philbin and Ireland will be fine.

Fine meaning no repercussions , or fine as in performing and leading this team into the playoffs this season?

You doubt any of what happens? Be specific as it relates to things I asserted will happen.

Both. I don't think they'll be punished, honestly. It's hard to imagine Philbin receiving punishment for this. And I think we'll be right there with every other team in December. Not sure if we'll make it, though.

I don't think philbin will be dismissed- maybe a small team fine if that, give Philbin 1 more season after next if we suck or more turmoil, bye bye

Well being right there in December is hardly making the playoffs imo . Making the longest ever playoff drought for this franchise even longer is not acceptable at least for me . If there were a series of events that could not have been avoided or expected and we ended up with a winning record but missed the playoffs , well that would merit evaluation , but a non winning record with just the challenges virtually every team has doesn't warrant yet another free pass , at least for me.

What is it about this team? every season is some sort of controversy. Stadium, team, owner, coach, Qb, playoff droughts, it never ends.
    it is really sad imo

I realize you are making points based on how this will benefit the Dolphins in the long run, but I am not sure it would be so nicely packaged with a big bow on top here. I am not sure this will lead to any lost jobs, other than maybe Martin not returning to the team. I don't fault you for assessing the long term effect on the team from a leadership and personnel standpoint, but I kind of would be shocked to see lost jobs here. Could happen. And I believe most on the board know your feelings on the current leadership on the team, especially on the personnel side. I am not fund of it either. But I do hope something good comes from this for the directly involved parties here. Especially if there are questionable practices.

    Leadership.

It starts there doesn't it , and problems arise when that isn't as strong and thorough as it should be.

it is interesting you bring up Hard Knocks. If there was a problem last year during training camp, when Martin was a rookie, the cameras would have captured it right?
