The language in those texts Schefter and others reported is highly offensive.

At the same time, it is the way a lot of people in our culture talk to one another - it is a kind of trash talking and not necessarily threatening or offensive. It's all metaphors. I am not justifying Incognito as it's very off color and not a good thing, in my opinion. But, those who react to it at face value are likely not recognizing that there is an entire segment of the culture that talks that way and does not mean anything by it in a remotely literal way. So, that needs to be taken into consideration as you judge Incognito. I've heard lots of people (sometimes even brothers) talk to each other that way while both are smiling and laughing.

I don't doubt there are other NFL teammates who talk in similar ways to each other. I can see, however, how Martin might take that a certain way. And, I can see how Incognito can be very intimidating and bully these guys on the OL.

Well in the Begals defense Geno Atkins was out of the game in the 2nd and the flood gates open for the Phins in the second half. I will agree the protection was good vs the Bengals but lets not overlook the obvious.

What I find sad is how many people think Incognito is a good guard. Average at best, good run blocker but that's pretty much it, gives up a ton of sacks.

Never been in an NFL locker room but I played both HS and College and I can tell you there these things happen regularly.

As a white kid in S. FL. playing HS ball in a mostly minority area I could tell you stories for days!
    Everybody rags on everybody.
When you play opposing teams the things you hear aren't in a joking manner so it even goes up another level.

Having said that, I nor anyone else I ever played with left the team, started claiming they had been bullied and started seeking attorneys for litigation.

It sucks but it had to be done. Incognito has himself to blame. Martin gets some blame too, but once those messages were released it was a done deal. He wasn't going to be back next year anyway. Dolphins did the right thing.

Stephen Ross should buy a media entity. Dan Snyder did that in DC and now you rarely hear these type of duck tales.

IMO they have to cut both, ****head for the obvious, but Martin cant be on this team....he is going to be a distraction, everywhere he goes, teammates will be walking on eggshells around him and the opposition?! They are going to clown him every play for being soft.....think about it? Martin is guilty by association and he has to be off'd as well....

And the offense was only on the field for 2 minutes in the 3rd quarter. Not a lot of time.

Have you ever seen any recent comedies in which the characters rag on each other - about each other's race, looks, weight, sex, prowess with ladies, whatever - movies like Funny People, Knocked Up, 40 Year Old Virgin, etc.? That's how a ton of people age 15 to 30 talk to each other. It happens in school, and especially on male sports teams. It gets ramped up in college when you try to outdo each other trying to get a laugh.

I am sure it goes even further once you're talking about grown men who get paid millions to play a sport. I am sure some don't partake, more serious guys, maybe like a Kevin Burnett. I mean it is also not normal to shave penises into each others' hair, but it's more normal on a football team than it is when you work at the grocery store.

That whole message reads like something Will Ferrell would say in a movie. Obviously Martin didn't take too much offense as he was hanging out alone with the guy 6 months after the voicemail was left.

Hope ***** *** Martin and his lawyer shark parents are happy. Costing 2 men their jobs (Although I find it hard to consider Martin a man.) This guy is involved with pranking, pictures to prove it, hes photographed hanging with Incognito and partying with him, now this **** randomly comes up, hes scared for his life? He leaves the team?????? Why?! He wasnt scared being all alone with Incognito in the middle of New Orleans 3 weeks ago, are you kidding me?!

Yes what Incognito said was wrong in that voice mail, but how do we know thats not a response to Martin calling him a fat redneck inbred hick !? WE DONT!

This is a ****ing witch hunt, and the one stearing the boat for it, is a weak minded 300+ pound lineman who just got demoted and left the team for mental illness.

    Jesus christ its pathetic.

Surely it's the PR pressure that they are dumping him (if, in fact they are), but it's the right thing to do, apparently, in this case. How bad it is in the locker room is probably very, very overstated, but it is what it is at this point. They HAVE to let him go. I don't blame them, even if we will hurt for the short term (rest of this season). On the good side, this really means a clean slate for the OL and maybe, just maybe after years of waiting, we'll see a better OL next season...

From a football perspective, it's not a great loss, although on the short term it will hurt. First, he's not really a good physical fit for the ZBS that Philbin/Sherman prefer. Second, he's going to be a FA in 3 months and likely would not be retained, based on several reasons, not just that he's not a great fit in the system. Third, I think he's still playing out of position, he was always better on the right side, but the Fins have never wanted him there. That said, he's likely being used on the left side because he'd be even more negative to the ZBS than on the right.... And we're not talking about an All-World RG, at best he's a touch above mediocre...

Either way, they have to let him go, in this day of political correctness, no matter what the extent of the issue is in the locker room...

Nate Garner I think is a pretty good starting Guard, I think, if you prep him there and practice. It seems like he's a much better player for the most part if he is getting the start than he is coming in cold off the bench.

Whoever is responsible has brought unnecessary attention to this football team after the Dolphins coming off a 4 game loss with a win v. the Bengals and instead of the media talking about that win they're now talking about this instead. A suspension or someone being fired is in order IMO, and this isn't the movies. I am between the ages of 15 to 30 and I don't talk to people like that (though I'm sure I have), but ESPECIALLY at work and ESPECIALLY when I've got a common goal with that person.

If I did that at the local convenience store job I'd be fired. Why should the NFL be different?

Man I see your side to this, and I loathe people like Jonathan Martin. This should have been handled in house behind closed doors in my opinion and now it's wide open and for all we know this has and will cost us a trip to the playoffs. Tattling on someone and turning it into this type of "i'm the victim, I need counseling now" has Lawyer BS written all over it. Thing is Cogs was being a dick no doubt and he got caught up.
Both players (not just Incognito) need to be axed in my opinion. Maybe Martin gets another chance and is able to put this behind him but from what I see he's a soft football player, and an even softer human being who comes from a spoiled lifestyle led by rich upper class parents.

In conclusion...Oh well...Incognito is gone so the next man needs to step up...Dallas Thomas, Watkins, Garner...One of them will get it done and this will blow over.

he might have used it with them, but they were willing to accept or they fired right back. But, like I said earlier, somethings rotten hear. And this was part of the reason why. If cogs was terrorizing martin to this extent he wouldn't be the first IMO. So, why are we only hearing about it now and from one person?
