This is really a new low point for the relationship between the media and the Dolphins. Its one thing when you're exploiting the actions of a billionaire or middle manager. When you're exploiting and ruining the careers of two players, both of which very likely have mental health issues, that's a really scummy thing to do. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
I never said he was a good HC. I merely pointed out that he was a better HC than anyone else the Dolphins have ever had in the position, except for Shula. I think just about everything you say on here is useless, so it doesn't surprise me that you can't understand what you read.
Yawn. You made the stupid comparison that Coach X could be good because Belichick is good. I merely pointed out that the uselessness of your post by illustrating Wanny was not a good coach. The main error here is that I was dumb enough to think you could realize that saying Coach X could be good because a coach that has nothing to do with him is good was stupid.
First of all he said he would only be in charge of personnel for 2 years than hand the reigns to Ireland. That's what he said when he got here and its what he said when he left. Secondly it was in preseason, not in the middle of the season.
He was a very good coach , not a very good head coach ( ok though at the least ) but yes , way over matched as a personnel guy.
At least you finally admitted the fact you are dumb. I realized this several years ago in regards to you, but it is nice to see that you recognize this fact about yourself too. As far as me making a comparison. I merely commented that at one time, people stated Belichick was thought to be a great DC, but not a great HC prospect. Belichick didn't prove to be a great HC until he was given the opportunity to be a HC. So I'm not sure how anyone can determine if another so called great DC, can or can not be a great HC if he isn't given the opportunity to be a HC in the first place. I have no idea if Zimmer would be a good or possibly great HC or not and I'm not sure how anyone else can know this since he has never been given the opportunity to be a HC in the NFL.
No, a good coach would have won more with that team. He was completely conservative and predictable and never got his players to play their best. I don't think you can have one of the better defenses in the league, the leading sacker, the leading rusher and miss the damn playoffs and be considered a good coach...when you achieved literally nothing else.
Hadnt really read that. If you have a link to that kind of info I appreciate it. It was a busy day and I didnt get a chance to read everything Hence why said they better let him pick a new OC and DC. Im not ready to give up on Philbin to be honest unless I think theres absolutely something better in the cards. I dont think hes a bad coach...I do think if he knew about this he should be fired but if not stay the course for another year.
Jimmy built that defense. You could do nothing and those guys would still have been one of the better defenses in the league. I mean we had the top 2 CBs, a top 3 DE, a top 3 MLB, and top a 10 DL and a top 3 rusher and you'll win just enough games to squeak into the playoffs. Basically there could have been no HC and the team would have performed as they did.
If your looking for outside parties to investigate what's going on to indict folks I think your gonna be dissapointed.
Perhaps if he had a great QB on those teams, he would have had more success as the HC of the Dolphins. I guess when you list all the facts about those teams, you fail to mention that the Dolphins never had anything more than a caretaker QB during the Wannstedt years. I think he was a terrible personnel man and that was what caused the decline of team during his tenure with the Dolphins. You can ***** and complaint about him as a HC all you want, but that doesn't change the fact he has the second best record of all the coaches in Dolphin history, except Shula. Does that mean I would rather have him over Philbin, Sparano, Saban, Johnson, and Cameron. Actually the only coach I think is a better HC is Johnson, when he was in his prime, but not when he was with the Dolphins. Saban is a great college coach, but was a flop with the Dolphins. Cameron was a complete failure and Sparano got worse every year he was here. So that leaves Philbin and I don't see anything in him that makes me believe he will be a better head coach in Miami than Wannstedt was. The Dolphins have had one great coach in Shula and a lot of average to bad coaches otherwise. So far Wanndtedt is probably the best of the rest. That doesn't mean he was a very good coach or anything special. It merely means that other than Shula, this franchise has been burdened with some bad coaching for most of the years since Shula retired.
In your opinion, do you think he could of dumped Marino while he was still under contract and still be living in Miami? I don't think he could, hence a issue.
"Drew Brees", the reason I will always hate Wanstache. Oh, and the lobster traps, it was downhill after that.
Dude, I can't find this post. If I do, you'll be the first person to go on my ignore list since leaving FH. I'm not gay but that post just smacks of both moronic idiocy and complete insensitivity. Frankly if I were one of the Mods here, that post would get you a ban for at least 6 months. I can't imagine we don't have some gay members, do you feel good about yourself and a statement like that? People who make ignorant, insensitive statements like that usually have questions about their own manhood in my experience. It angers me to the point I would love it if someone showed that post to Martin along with your contact info. On further thought, don't bother to reply, you're already on my ignore list.
I agree and that is why I said earlier that he was terrible at player personnel decisions and that is also why the team declined over his tenure with the Dolphins. Of course it's not like the Dolphins have done a good job selecting quality QB's since Marino retired. They got lucky in 2008 when the Jets cut Pennington and Tannehill, may or may not end up being the long term answer at the QB position. So it wasn't just Wannstedt who selected crappy QB's over the past decade and a half. My whole premise has been that even though he certainly wasn't a great or even very good coach with the Dolphins. He still had more success than any other coach in Dolphin history except for Shula. That is a fact and it appears the dislike for the Wannstedt years is still so strong with many Dolphin fans, they refuse to accept that he did a better job than any of the head coaches hired since he left the Dolphins. In fact no other head coach since his departure has had a career winning record with the Dolphins. Wannstedt had a head coaching record of 42-31 while with the Dolphins and this includes going 1-8 in his last season with the Dolphins. This means he had a 41-23 record after his first four years as the Dolphins HC. If Philbin has this record after his first four years, Dolphin fans will be calling him the next Don Shula. I think his poor personnel decisions was his downfall. It certainly wasn't his record with the Dolphins after his first four years as the Dolphins HC.
Back on topic, Ross has made a lot of mistakes, and IMO done a poor job of surrounding himself with the right people to run this franchise. However, if that article is true, and Ross is going to clean house with the help of professionals from the NFL, then kudos to him, he could return this to a once-again proud franchise. And frankly I have NO care who ends up getting cut or fired over this, we will come out a better organization in the long run. You always hear people, especially players, talking about how this is a "business", well it's time this franchise turned back into a businesslike atmosphere. what's been going on in all this would NEVER be permitted in any well run business. I can speak with some authority on this subject having been a CEO, President, and a Vice President of 6 different and successful companies. Get this done Mr. Ross, I for one support you in cleaning up this franchise.
Brees was passed over by every other teams in that draft and wasn't taken until the second round. He also was replaced in San Diego by Rivers because the Chargers felt that he wasn't the long term answer for them at the QB position. So blaming Wannstedt for not drafting a player no other team wanted in the first round and many teams thought was too short and didn't have a great arm is really rewriting history. If you want to blame Saban for not signing him after he showed he could play at the NFL level, I can understand that. History clearly shows that the Dolphins should have drafted Brees, but history also shows that the Dolphins should have drafted Brady before the Patriots took him in the sixth round of the 2000 draft with the 199th overall pick. I'm more upset with missing out on Brady and seeing him playing for the Patriots against the Dolphins twice a year than I am with the fact the Dolphins didn't draft Drew Brees.
I reckon she could still be the next GM. There's your media cleansing story.. the first female GM of an NFL franchise.
I think the O line coach (can't remember his name) is gone. He's closer to them than anyone else and he either didn't know or didn't do anything or enough. This I'd be fine with because the O line has been hurting. I'm afraid that Philbin might be done as well for essentially the same reasons, even though he wasn't just the position coach. He either didn't know (damning) or knew and didn't do anything or didn't do enough (damning). I'd rather stick w/ Philbin through next year to see what he can do with this team. Oh well.
Dave Wannstedt also inherited one of the best rosters the Dolphins have had since the 70's and proceeded to piss it all away. In 2002 he had the league leading rusher, the league leading pass rusher and the #4 overall defense yet still contrived to miss the play-offs. Add in his personnel decisions and the state he left the franchise in then how anyone can say he was anything other than an unmitigated disaster is beyond me.
"What can Trent Green do that Jay can't?" Also Saban is 10x the coach Wannstedt is. Notice I said coach, not person.
