No. Philbin said they talked but that Martin only talked about his own personal issues and didn't mention any players.

I'm sorry Chris, but this is crap. This is using 20/20 hindsight to your advantage.

Richie was viewed as a leader by his teammates. He was voted as such by the players. He was the most tenured OL on the line. Who else were they going to ask?

Are the Bears worried about liability when they ask Marshall to toughen up Jeffery? A guy who was with a teammate that was shot and killed, multiple battery charges etc? He quoted that he toughened him up btw.

Were the Ravens liable for Ray Lewis toughening up guys bc he had his issues?

    C'mon now.

Wow. If the recent fissure between Philbin/ Aponte and Ireland is factual, I can see where this is headed.

Are you implying that Ireland is the fall guy here and was the one doing the directing? It wouldn't see too far out of character for Ireland. For Philbin it would.

Then Philbin is in deep doo doo.

Seems like they will all be fired, honestly. Ross may have no choice. It would be great if Coyle takes over and leads us to the playoffs.

I mean it's either famine or famine here..and yes that was on purpose.

You let players own the locker room and this happens. You don't and you're a task master like Schiano. You can't win.

In the end, this a situation that sucks necause of the two crappy people in the middle of it - Martin and Incognito.

If we're going back in time, I prefer to go to 2002 so that Norv Turner feeds the ball to Ricky (instead of calling three straight passes) so we close out the division vs the Pats in the season finale. Or maybe we tackle Rick Spielman before he submits the Jamar Fletcher draft card instead of Drew Brees? Or if you want to go further, how bout reverting to the 85 AFC Championship so we can develop gameplan to stop Tony Eason?

Nothing would shock me.. I hate to sound like a nasty SOB, but I'll throw this out here.. Philbin was unfazed in his desire to be a head-coach despite his son dying.. That could indicate that he isn't as docile or as honorable as many people have made him out to be. I know that comment can be taken the wrong way, but most people, IMHO would take some time to ponder life after losing a child.

Boil it all down and this is all that matters, neither one were very good football players.

The rest of it is pretty much sports media news cycle BS, at the end of the day, we've replaced two rather poor offensive linemen.

"Fools, we live in a world that measures success on wins and losses. And those wins have to be secured by men with heart. Who's gonna do it? You, Omar Kelly? You, Adam Shefter?

I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom.

You weep for Jon Martin and you curse the Dolphins. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Martin's departure, while tragic, probably prevented losses. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, prevents losses...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on your team. You need me on your team.

We use words like toughness, heart, loyalty...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something, the QB. You use 'em as a punchline.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps talking about the job I do, then questions the manner in which I do it it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way.

Otherwise, I suggest you fax in your resume' and try out for the team. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!

I think it's time for Ross to take away the guaranteed sellouts.. Can't wait to cheer for this team with 20,000 other people when San Diego comes in to town after we get blown out in Tampa.

Then what should they have done? Can't cut him liable for lawsuit they cut him because he was a nut job. You can't marginalize him because the same situation probably happens.

Let me ask you this...in April who would Dolphins fans if polled been asked should help Jon Martin if this was out and open?

My guess? Mike Pouncey right? Yet he's subpoenaed for potentially some bad stuff. But no one would've known that at the time - coaches or players. He's viewed as a leader.

That's why you cant view this linearly now and say "what were they thinking?" They asked the guy the team, unit voted as a leader to get a guy in line.

No different than most teams and coaches.

Unless the supposed "mental health issues" were diagnosed back then, it doesn't mean squat. Otherwise, to a coach, it just sounds like a 310 pound football player whining and sounding soft, and as a coach there's little tolerance for that.

After all the 2nd round picks Ireland has wasted away over his tenure, how ironic would it be if the league found the Dolphins guilty of ordering a code red and took away their 2nd rounder next draft?

I'm just waiting for the reports that what really caused the Martin breakdown was Ireland asking if his mother was a whore.

Here is what I expect to happen, the NFL will send investigators (which I hate, this is not the NCeffin'AA) and Ross will direct everyone to be forthcoming, if you lie to them you will be fired.

Here is the thing, though: there was a big article on Incognito a few weeks ago from either Yahoo or ESPN (someone!) essentially saying he has left most of his demons (mental, physical, addictions) behind. It really puts Incognito in a good light.

Now, you are a new coaching staff. You think that Incognito has "grown up" given his age, seeming admittance and acceptance to his past wreckless behaviors, and his willingness to become a team leader. So, he becomes part of this leadership council, and with that, given the staff's perception of Incognito's recent good behavior, you nudge Incognito into trying to whip a little toughness into Martin, thinking that Incognito will take Martin under his wings and show the kid how to play nasty at the LOS.

As a coaching staff, you may think this is a good idea. But then something like this happens....

Reputation mean something in this league.

Incognito was voted dirtiest player and now he is paying the price.
Ireland has a horrible reputation and this could be the final straw.

If other players that Ireland wronged in the past come forward, this could get a lot uglier.

The odd thing to me, is that I don't even get the feeling Philbin likes the job that much. He doesn't appear comfortable being the voice of the franchise, and he doesn't seem to take much joy in the wins or disappointment in the losses
