No, I don't. If it did, Ireland would have been fired years ago. Norv Turner would have never lasted so long in SD. Andy Reid would have never lasted so long in Philadelphia. Coughlin and Manning in NY. What only matters is the performance in the eyes of the owner. I don't think they are influenced by the fans.
If the owner isn't influenced by the action of the fans, he should be. All you have to do is look at all the empty seats during home games to see that many fans just aren't buying into this team anymore. If Ross has no problem with small crowds in the stadium and one of the lowest TV ratings for an NFL in their home market, he is certainly doing what is necessary to make sure these things continue. If on the other hand he wants to see the stadium full and higher TV ratings for the Dolphins in South Florida, something needs to change drastically. Because what he has been doing and the people he has hired to make this a championship quality team, just aren't getting the job done.
Was wondering what took you so long to respond. Busy digging up posts, what, a year and a half old? I've never claimed that I've been a perfect gentleman during the 3 year course of the great Ireland debate. But over the past several months I've made efforts to really engage in the topic civilly, the few times I do choose to even engage in this topic anymore. But the problem is there are folks like you still judging me based on things I said ages ago. Still holding on to that hate, anger, and EMOTION. Now I can't even use the term Ireland supporter. Hell, I haven't even been saying that anymore. Now I say, "Those who support Ireland." Some are so emotional that even that is deemed insulting!!! You would have to go back pretty far, as you did, to find where I've been insulting or personally attacked a member. I only need to go back 2 pages to find an instance where you have done it. You're an emotional guy. Always have been. It's not a bad quality. But to claim you're not emotional on these topics is hogwash. LB I think was onto something when he said this might be a rough time for some on this forum. I personally do not know how bad this situation will prove to be for Ireland, but the reaction to the news has been very reminiscent to the Henne situation. Disavow any real support for the guy and just claim, "I only wanted him to get a fair shot." That despite hundreds of posts in support, defense, pages of statistics, etc. This despite as recently as 4 weeks ago members were rallying around the "#extendIreland" post. Recently several posters (is that offensive?) have been saying all the "haters", "bashers", "witch hunters" (see your quoted post) etc. (there isn't only one side in this using labels) will just find someone new to bash once Ireland is gone. Well, that might be true to some extent. If the Dolphins continue to lose and miss the playoffs for season after season there are those of us who will try and figure out what the biggest reason for the losing is. And there will be the other party. Those that take the position to defend whatever that reason might be regardless of the situation. And the great circle of message board fandom will continue. Oh, and if you really want to keep playing the "Let's dig up old posts to make a person look silly game" I can do that because there are some gems from you out there.
Exactly. This **** is ridiculous at this point. Hurricanes fans did the same thing to help get Shantard fired, and flew another banner thanking Golden and co. for navigating through the NCAA's ineptidue. People take notice. Ireland is one of the worst GM's I've ever seen yet somehow manages to keep a job. Even worse he somehow manages to keep some Dolphins fans on his nuts. Must be some type of voodoo magic.
Keep believing it. "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Insanity is the definition of Ireland's career.
I'm supposed to care about his family being "emotional" about fans wanting a change? Really? The same fans that pay this guy and his family an enormous salary to do a job he's been epically unqualified for, for 6 years. Uh yea, not going to happen. If Ireland has to tell his kids anything, it's to not be like daddy since being a **** up on the job for 6 years doesn't work in the real world. Tell them to make sure they make good use of that higher education those same people bought for them.
Exactly. Wow. My family and many of the families I know worry their husbands/wives/son/daughter/father/mother getting killed or seriously injured on a deployment, and I'm supposed to feel sorry for the family of an NFL GM who makes millions of dollars because people think he should be fired from a job he's not good at? What a terrible person I am. If the only thing a family gets emotional about is fans/media wanting a guy fired for having 6 years to fail at a job they've made millions off of, I'd say they have it pretty damn easy and won't get sympathy from me. It's pretty damn hilarious to see the Ireland Apologist flavor of the month change from "It's all Parcells fault. The only decisions Ireland was allowed to make was which creamer he poured into Parcell's coffee every morning" to this new flavor of "but his family will get emotional from people wanting him fired from a job that pays him millions to sign players to play a GAME." Comical really. I'm sure his family won't be able to sleep at night knowing some Dolphins fans payed for a banner to fly around the stadium. I really hope Randy Shannon's family recovered from all of that emotional strain.
Well its pretty much a done deal he's on the way out now. Either take the money and donate it or change the message to: "We told you so 2 Years Ago. Fireland."
LOL. You guys paid that money for a plane to take off, fly around a bit, and land. That's it. There was no success involved, unless you count the plane landing safely.
As someone in recovery, this is just a definition made up by people in recovery. Insanity is in no way defined as "repeating something over and over" no matter the expectations. I was one of those still giving ireland a shot. I say if we miss the playoffs, he must go. I don't blame him for Martin. Who the hell could have seen that coming on draft day? Edit: feels good to get the win today. Did not convince me of too much though, except RT struggles with the deep ball. He's dead accurate, until we go deep.
Had I not seen this stupid thread... I'd have never known it happened. Not a mention of it on tv today. You call that a success?
Also lost a lot of games with the players he drafted. If these boys go 9 and 7 and make the playoffs then things are looking up. Good win today, Phins, just keep it up!
We win= Fire Ireland We lose= Fire Ireland Worst record end of season= Fire Ireland Go to playoffs...but lose= Fire Ireland We go to the SB...but lose= Fire Ireland Win SB= He can stay for 1 more season. Replicate perfect season= I believed in him this whole time. Sounds about right?
The team is 5-5 how would he replicate perfect season? If he can turn this record to 10-0 he can have my paycheck for life
So they raised money to have a plane fly that stupid banner that most people couldn't give a **** about, instead of donating that money to a better cause? 5-5 by the way.
The OC play calling has been garbage, the DC play calling has been garbage, Coyle and Henning Jr. suck and need to be replaced.
