Very bad for Ireland if this is true. This would prove that someone in the Dolphins FO knew of the issues between Martin and Incognito. In the past few days we've seen why Martin wouldn't go the the players (they preferred Incognito over Martin), why he wouldn't go to the coaches (they told Incognito to toughen him up) and why he didn't go to upper management (he did, and was told to handle it himself). At that point, what other option does he have but walk away? Now we're going to see who else knew about the issues between Incognito and Martin and what they did (or didn't) do once they found out.

We all know my stance on Teflon Jeff....but I dont think he did anything wrong...if this is true. In fact, thats sound advice and a better choice than what Martin decided to do.

If true, this is sure to improve Ireland's already stellar reputation with NFL players including those on the team he is currently the GM of. I don't know about any of you, but I'd love to find out my boss was telling co-workers to slug me in the face.

It's horribly unprofessional, and leaves his team legally culpable if in the fight that could ensue from that, with a permanent injury to one of the parties.

Anyone that can still continue to support Jeff Ireland, your position becomes less and less tenable every single hour.

True DolFans, the time of our liberation from this Parcells albatross is getting nearer and nearer. I can't wait to start the celebrations !

Well if he didn't it shows the disconnect between the HC and the GM.

Coming from a GM of a football team, no way in hell is that sound advice. A guy in authority like Jeff is supposed to be better than that, especially if he was aware of Martin's fragile emotions.

This is the kind of organizational dysfunction that's damaging enough for Roger Goodell to impose penalties, and possibly loss of draft picks.

Why couldnt have the conversation gone like this...

"Hey Jeff, this is (insert name)...hey listen, got something I need to speak with you about."

"Sure go ahead...got a few minutes"

"Jeff, I'm hearing from my client that Richie Incognito has used racially insensitive words and has bullied him on several occasions"

"Well tell Jonathan to punch Richie in the mouth, (laughing heard in the background) seriously (insert name) this is a football locker room, that kind of talk happens all the time"

"Yeh, I know Jeff, but Jonathan isnt a normal kind of football player"

"Ok, well, let me look into it, and Ill get back to you"

Next day Martin walks out of room and goes AWOL.

They have already proven they will release only portions of a message that works to their advantage, they dont release it all. To me this is much ado about nothing unless they release details of the entire conversation.

Im actually surprised any of you would believe this should get Ireland fired when its already been shown they use these messages and texts to paint a picture they want. Which is fine, then show all of the conversation. Which of course, they wont do. Its funny, they leak these statements one by one, except now we know that Martin had actually taken the Cogs voice mail and played it for the team, and laughed about it. But..doesnt matter, because all they are doing is trying to win in the court of opinion.

Legally its also stupid. If this is true, promoting physical confrontation from an executive of the organization leaves the team open to the charge of "an unsafe workplace environment". This can become yet another legal problem. And if Incognito doesn't get another job in the NFL I wouldn't be surprised he and Martin both sue the Dolphins.

Ireland is gone, great news there.

Also, martin can sue the dolphins for a ton of money and easily win.

And that's pathetically absurd. I'm not crazy about Ireland's job as a GM, but to say he is leaving his team legally culpable if a fight ensues from what you have heard Jonathan Martins party leak....when you already know they are shady as hell in doing so...is just being ignorant.

You want to fire him for his job as a talent evaluator fine, but to give an ounce of credulity to this kind of smearing campaign, is dumb.

You notice they have chosen to two easiest targets to use in their defense. Ireland, (given the Dez Bryant fiascoe) and Cogs (Given the dirty player history).....pretty damn convenient.

We may or may not know what Ireland's agenda is, but we ALL know that LB has an agenda, and it involves Jeff Ireland no longer being employed by the Fins, no matter what is true or not true that comes out about him....

Seriously ? Really ? You have seen Martin's cell phone with the message on it ? Dude, you really sound stupid.

But Ross has to be saying to himself "If I had only gotten rid of this guy, much of this stuff never happens. Why keep him now, in case he does something else stupid". If he isn't, then he is the Clueless Bozo many of us think he is.

"It happens all the time" is not a justification nor defense. That's the disconnect in the response to this story. A set of people think that because "it happens all the time", in the context of a football locker room, then it's OK because it's always been that way.

I'll tell you what, there is a lot of spotty information coming out that can only be coming from persons that are scheming to make Martin look like the victim here. Less and less, to me, is this looking like Martin is anything but a major contributor to this problem. This reeks of agent-speak and mommie-and-daddie-speak, all calculating individuals with an agenda...

  21. No he can not easily win. If Martin felt that he was being bullied and intimidated and it was coming from the top down, he should of contacted his union rep.

That's all some people on this board need. Notice they only quote the word "punch". Never quoting Ireland as saying "john needs to punch Richie in the mouth." It's a smear campaign because it fits the media agenda. They aren't getting the feedback against Richie they thought, so they have to stir up stuff elsewhere.

For all anyone knows, Ireland could have said "I'm glad he didn't punch him." and the media lets loose with he said "punch".

Because the NFL investigation is probably a lot further along than the bits that have become public. Many inside NFL circles may have known this for the past day or two.

Yeah i'm sure a bunch of stupid stuff like this will come out in the wash before too long. Ireland was probably like "well punch him then" and of course was only half serious about it. I mean my kids come crying to me about what the other one did to them and I usually say "work it out yourself, punch him" lol...Again i'm only half serious when I tell them to do that, and in this case if Ireland did say that it was probably out of frustration over the entire situation...More like a way of saying "Hey Martin, grow up you little biatch".

    This is funny.

Florio quote Martins agent, who has a vested interest in not only protecting his client's rep, but a financial one, and those with an agenda simply swallow it because...it's what they want to hear.

And you sound more and more desperate in defending this POS GM.

If I am Ross, everyday you have to become more and more disillusioned with Ireland. All of this seems to point back to him. If you wish I can go through (for the umteenth time) the litany of indescresions, mistakes, horrible draft picks, his aloofness & surliness with the media (which can be a great friend in cases like this, or your worst enemy if you have a history of being an *** with them) and fans.

At this point he's become a liability and not an asset. If Ross is smart, he can see this and will (HOPEFULLY) let him go and put us out of our misery.

    Actually, per Armando:

At this point it is patently obvious Martin's camp hasn't been particularly honest.

You need to stop. All of this points at the GM? The GM started all of this. You're too much. Compare our team before he got here talent wise and where we are now, and tell me he hasn't done as good a job as any other GM. Name a GM that has hit 100% on all his drafts. You're being unrealistic and a little too biased on your hate of this guy. I'm thinking you're really a troll and jest fan.

I think that is EXACTLY what is going on.

But think of who drafted this nudnick and allowed this whole thing to happen. It goes back to one person. Supposedly the rest of the league had the information on him as we have heard Polian say he had a "do not draft" tag on Martin. Why did Ireland draft him at all, let alone in the 2nd round ?

He hasn't done as good a job as any other GM.

Our line is the worst in the NFL. Our Wide Receivers are average at best and our running backs are the same. The QB looks promising, and the defensive line is solid. But we've made a bunch of middling moves with the linebacking unit and secondary, both of which suffer from bouts of inconsistency. So in 5 years we've gotten one of the best d-lines, one of the worst o-lines, potentially a good QB (only took us 5 tries with him in charge - let's hope he doesn't get sacked another 35 times in the second half), a couple of decent players in the secondary, and some miscast pieces at wide receiver and running back. That's not the definition of a good job. That's the definition of below average.

Now, the team is embroiled in chaos and controversy. Someone has to be accountable for it. That starts at the top.

This whole ordeal is getting pathetic now. Like children in Kindergarten. There should be nothing to this latest developement. As people have said, context matters.

What is to stop any player in the NFL from making such accusations against fellow teammate that razz them?

His union rep resides in that locker room because he's a team mate of Martin, the same locker room that we have seen close ranks the last couple of days and come out completely in favor of Incognito. Martin could say he was afraid to go to him too.

No he cant. First of all, you have to present your case before a jury. Have you ever sat on a Federal case as a jury member? Do you think these partial leaked snippets of a conversation are enough to win Martin a ton of money. No freakin way.

This is to pressure Miami into paying the rest of his salary.

    But your missing my point....

It was entirely possible, he didnt literally mean for Martin to go punch Ingcognito (Or well....its possible he didnt mean it literally). Its an off the cuff comment...like..."Hey...I think I broke my arm"..answer..."Eh..its just a scratch..pour some Robutussin on it).
