And quite frankly....its the right thing to do. The coaches job is to improve the players and improve the team. That is the beginning and the end of their job. Ever player in the NFL needs the physical skills to be successful and, equally as important, the mental skills. Teaching Martin to toughen up is as important as teaching him his stance.
Speaking of Mike & Mike, they had Salguero on and he wouldn't touch the claim that Incognito was ordered to "toughen up Martin". Speaks to the validity of that report at this time as far as I'm concerned.
Florio is really taking it upon himself to be the white knight in this situation, here is his response to the Murtha piece: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...lied-and-that-coaches-knew-what-was-going-on/
Good point: "He played for the Dolphins through August 31, 2012, which means that he observed the interactions between Incognito and Martin only through the 2012 offseason program (following Martin’s arrival via the draft), training camp, and the preseason."
The whole rest of the article is pretty spotty, accusing Murtha of coming to things on conjecture, then doing all the same things in his article. Also wanted to apologize for the multiple posts, computer's enter key that I'm on doesn't work.
No...nothing really indicates that is how it went down...yet. To me, there is too much agenda in what was reported initially. What keeps coming out by players/former players, debunks pretty much everything that Martin's camp has come out with...this seems like much ado about nothing, except Martin has decided to quit football and the Fins called his bluff by threatening to put him on the NFI... At this point, they just need to do it and be done with Martin and Cogs and start over... Cogs seems to be the real loser in all this, even though I understand his mannerisms and outburst to Martin via text/voice messages were insensitive and wrong...
But it wasn't, it wasn't a good read. It was an awful, hypocritical article that only had one good point in it.
The other bad points are ones where he assumes that Murtha no longer hung out with any of the players after he is no longer a Dolphin. He has no proof of that either way.
This is really a screwy situation. It really appears that Martin decided, after being demoted for crappy play at LT, that he didn’t want to play football anymore (at least as a backup) and after leaving the team, when the Fins told him to report or they’d put him on the NFI (where he won’t collect his paychecks) he decided to get back at the whole organization. All the reports that are not from Martin’s mommie and daddie, paint a completely different story than what his camps wants everyone to believe… Mike, you need to look at this from the other perspective. All your sensationalizing of ‘poor Martin’ simply is what they want the media to spout off about. Cognito was WRONG with his outbursts and racially motivated slurs, there’s no doubt, but in reality, despite his crassness and reputation, he may be more of the victim here than what many want to say. This isn’t a simple bullying case. This is a revenge case that Martin (or mommie and daddie) is orchestrating to get his pay this season and not play football to earn it… This is a full grown man, not a kid or child that obviously has never been taught by his parents to stand up for himself. Too bad the intelligence testing he took as a rookie was wrong about him. He’s very weak and weak-minded and will probably never make good in the ‘real’ world. I feel sorry for him, but blame his upbringing, not Ireland, Philbin, Incognito, or any other player or coach on the Dolphins…
If this is accurate - and I've no reason to doubt it - then Jonathan Martin didn't only do a disservice to his team and to himself, but to people who are actually suffering from bad workplace conditions or bullying. In a different post, I've argued that bullying, in some ways, was like rape. Jonathan Martin seems to be the girl that screams "rape" after her boyfriend dumped her. Disgusting.
that may be true, but he sheds light on a really important item. it totally debunks the whole $15,000 "extortion" bull**** that has been floating around the media for well over a week now.
Or, you know, it's what he was told by someone because he wasn't on the team wasn't on the trip and played no part in the money handling
even if Murtha was on the team for 15 seconds He still knows more about any of this situation than you and florio both. Congrars on your 100% speculation and unwarranted support of martin in light of real evidence that is seemingly an indictment of him
Obviously we don't know for sure, but Murtha's story seems a lot more plausible than Incognito extorting $15,000 from Martin.
