I think you are. We have all of these interviews going on throughout over an hour, no one said "no more questions!" Philbin didnt close off availability to his players? Philbin didnt cut the figgin cord of the cameras filming if it meant something as drastic as hurting their lawsuit....? Then on top of that, its on the front page of the official team website. "Tannehill responds to questions about Martin" "Hartline discusses Incognito", "Lamar Miller discusses the locker room leadership" There is no effing way if that was a rebelious effort by the players, that Philbin would not only let it happen for over an hour of questions and answers, but be shinning a spotlight on it at the teams official website.
Oy. Alright. I do agree with posts around here that all this will help us beat the Bucs, but I haven't quite figured out how, yet.
And the proof of anyone having knowledge on Martin's mental issues before the draft is where? Ya I know I'm not buying the mystery source talk hook line and sinker so I must have a tinfoil hat on, right? We're going to blame him for not predicting injuries (Jordan we knew about) too. lol Ok.
Aren't the first 2 things you mentioned pretty well known at this point? They're talking about those things on the radio in New York. Either way, all of these things you mention benefit the team so why would we be concerned about it? EDIT: Oh I see now, you're about the backlash for Ireland, not the team in general.
They were given the freedom to answer questions for a day, then move on to Tampa Bay. Reporters were shocked at their statements, some avoiding them altogether, because it does not forward the agenda. The media wants ambiguity and lives off unanswered questions, which they kindly answer for themselves and tell the reader what to think.
First off, was Philbin even there? Second, about the website stuff...it's a decent point to raise. But at the same time if they had completely blotted out everything from the website that really would have added to the impression that what went on was against Philbin's orders. I'm not sure you can call this conspiracy theory stuff when you consider Armando explicitly stated it, as per his sources, and so did Randy Starks during the whole media blitz. (And by the way try looking for Starks' or Clabo's media comments and you won't find them).
Thats conspiracy. And do you mean on MD.com, or anywhere? Cause I have seen Clabo's interview all over the place.
Yesterday was perfect timing for the team to speak out on the incident. Of course, there was some orchestration on the part of the Dolphins organization regarding the matter. PR 101. The question now remains: did it work? There are new wrinkles coming out here and there, but nothing particularly earth shattering. Quite frankly, it seems to have worked just fine. Yes, there are media still covering this, but they are replaying the same segments and sentiments from yesterday's news conference. It is a big story, nonetheless. I believe, until the investigation by the NFL is complete, there may not be much more to this entire saga. I think the general NFL fan is beginning to tire of this story and just wants to move on to some damned football.
Also, Randy said what....? "We didnt ask philbin to do this" ? Ok. Well......then maybe Philbin told them. Or like Section said in another thread...."Don't throw this brick through that window......but take a look at this shiney, throw-able brick....bye bye"
The suspension of cogs may not have been just, but I think in terms of business it was right. The **** , right or wrong, was falling on Cogs. The phins had to protect their brand by showing they take all accusations of physical violence/hostile workplace environment seriously. I also seriously doubt that fell alone on Philbin in terms of a decision.
it's completely changed the discussion, i'll say that. ESPN this morning, all the talking heads seemed shocked and stunned that miamis locker room came out in support of cogs and not martin. The discussion went from how horrible cogs is to "why does it seem like no one cares about martin?" It's been pretty funny seeing every "analyst" stick to "cogs is a horrible human being, and every former player says 'Well, thats how an nfl locker room is supposed to be"
An update from Armando Salguero: Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just posting and ruminating on the implications of something that has been actually reported on. If you disagree with the veracity of Armando's reports, that is your prerogative...and it's fine with me.
Could be that Philbin just wants everyone to focus in on tampa now. We play a game in 4 days. I'd imagine the HC just wants to talk football and only football from now on. I think the players and coaches have said all they know/feel and its time for them to get back to work.
That's fine. But I'm not speculating any conspiracy theories here. Armando's source told him that Philbin's media orders to the players were still standing on Wednesday, and Randy Starks explicitly stated nobody went to Philbin to get permission to sound off about the subject. Now Armando had another source call it a straight up "mutiny". All I'm doing is talking about what's actually out there. Judging by the sheer number of posts in this thread from people on my Ignore list, I imagine I'm taking all kinds of sh-t for it...but this is a story that is developing. I'm not just making sh-t up.
To me, what happened is the players were watching this unfold, and being slandered, and did what they thought was the right thing to do, maybe not the "smart" thing to do. This is why Florio was pouting earlier, like his favorite toy was taken away from him, more than likely he expected the beating to continue unabatated b/c it was the "smart" thing to do.
There's no way in hell this was a mutiny or against the organization's direction...now way. You'd have to be high or ignernt to believe it is. Haven't we learned yet, particularly with recent events, that just because some a**hat in the media says something, doesn't make it fact? Come on! They got the go ahead, plain and simple. And the "Edit" above that stated the team told the players only to talk about Tampa...how does that prove a mutiny? That's simply a, "alright guys we said our peace, now back to business." Pathetic.
Or maybe Philbin issued a gag order with the implicit idea that players would disobey. After all, being under heavy scrutiny, he can't really say, yeah guys, go out and have Richie's back, would you? Doing that would look disastrous if it became public. He can, however, issue a gag order and do absolutely nothing to enforce it.
Well Philbin and Ireland will be gone soon anyway. I'm already looking at potential head coaches and GMs to hire for 2014
Or maybe, given the situation, you give your players the opportunity to speak up and voice their opinions on the matter hoping that those principles established will shine through. Sometimes you have to let go. Like a father letting his daughter go on her first date, hoping what you have instilled over the years plays a role in her judgement. I thought you said they undermined Philbin. Huh? [EDIT: I misread and thought you meant it as an organizational orchestration, not player] Doubt this happens since this was all "orchestrated". [EDIT: see above] So the Miami Dolphins organization let their poster boy stand up in the national spotlight AFTER Joe Philbin only to have him go off on his own tangent unbeknownst to ANYONE on the staff or in that organization? Yet, similar sentiment was portrayed in the locker room interviews. It certainly could be a 'banding of brothers' behind the staff's back, but when Tannehill steps up to the podium immediately after Philbin, it points to an orchestrated effort by the organization. Wait, are you saying he should, or should not, fine players? Color me confused. This almost assuredly happened. Maybe even yesterday before the news conference? How can you be so sure that Philbin or the organization wasn't behind Starks' comments? It is certainly not outside the realm of possibilities. And Incognito should have been suspended without more evidence. The brand is more important than the player, as archane as it may seem. I would like to think the connection was made yesterday. Or maybe even the day before. It will be interesting how this all plays out.
The Herald knows that one dude calls it a mutiny. I know that several dudes disagree. I know more dudes than the Herald.
