I think Carey and Satele have been the only ones to impress me this season.

I think what would best serve the Dolphins would be drafting an elite LT, and moving Carey to RT.

LJ Shelton would be exceptional as an inside lineman.

Satale played very well for a rookie, and is a big reason why we averaged near 5 ypc. Carey showed to be an exceptional LT, and I believe Hadnot had a solid year as well. Lewinski started the year out ok, but fell off dramatically, ditto for Shelton.

One thing we have to decide is if we have potential replacements on the roster (Lekkerkerker,Mormino,Wilson,Alabi) or if we're gonna draft replacements. BTW Lekkerkerker IMO has proven to be a capable backup as has Alabi, we just need to decide whether or not we're satisfied with them being starters.

I think Carey is a lock at LT, Satele a lock at C, Hadnot a lock at RG. all we need is to figure out who goes in LG and RT. it seems Drew Mormino WILL get the LG spot if hes healthy by next season...the guy was gonna start this year if he didnt get hurt. so that leaves RT up for grabs.

u could sign Max Starks to play RT, or draft an RT.

i think if Hadnot asks for too much money which he seems to be doing, then u gotta draft big boy Duke Robinson in the 2nd round.

I'm somewhat at a loss as to how people perceive Carey to be an "exceptional" LT; he's been playing solid overall but he struggles mightily against speedy pass rushers and got beaten quite ugly a couple of times. Compared to his Pro Bowl type season as RT he's nothing to write home about, neither negatively nor positively. Granted, given our O-line problems in the past years (and compared to Shelton last year) he's a vast improvement but I'm still convinced he'd be better off at RT (or even G) and the whole team would be better off with a young franchise LT and Carey playing at the right side.

As for Satele, I heartily agree. He's having a wonderful season and there's still a lot of potential to look forward to. Hadnot's been okay but I have a hard time imagining that we're going to pay him the kind of money it would take to prevent him from testing the market as an FA. Shelton's been, well, Shelton. And I don't think that either Liwienski or Lekkerkerkerkerkerker are the answer at LG.

All in all it seems to me that the o-line is still a major work in progress. Satele provides an anchor at center and if we could somehow land an above average LT and move Carey to the right side, we'd be two good guards shy of having a great line. I'm sincerely hoping that the overall solid play of this year's line doesn't lead the FO to believe that we're pretty much set. We thought so after the 2005 season as well.

when I say exceptional that's all I mean. He hasn't done anything fantastic, but he hasn't been bad. IMO he's been better than LJ Shelton,Damien McIntosh, and Wade Smith were combined (though LJ and Wade were unbelievably bad).

I can agree with that - although I think that McIntosh was a wee bit better than his overall reputation around here. And it's not that Carey played bad; he didn't. It's just that LT is so much of a value position that I wouldn't be satisfied with having a solid one. Especially if moving my current LT to RT would give me two PB type players on either side.

It's very true that our LT history after Webb isn't one of rich success but that shoudn't make us content with being mediocre - especially not at a position like LT. It's the same story as it with QBs: If you haven't a great one, look for one.

I think one of Cams first big mistakes was tinkering with the right side of the line. Carey and Shelton were a nice tandem at RG and RT. Cam needed to find a premier LT even if it meant drafting him very high or overpaying someone in free agency. Then the line would have been better and most of the guys would be lineing up at the same position were they already had gelled last season. I think we'll resign Hadnot, move Carey back to RT, Shelton back to RG, Satele is great imo and we'll get the premier LT in the offseason. Some of the guys we have can serve as backups. Hey, maybe Toledo can even see the field. Now that Parcells is onboard I think our first pick will be Chris Long. After that maybe we can snag our LT or else we could make it happen in a tradedown.

I agree with your assessment. And I have a feeling Parcells will also. The line hardly strikes me as exceptional and I think there will be more changes than most expect.

Parcells has always prioritized a physical running game with necessary number of attempts, in the 450+ range and normally higher than that. No way I can characterize an OL as vastly improved when we ran the ball so seldom and the OL never had the burden of trying to finish off an opponent.

You never want to give too much credit while losing. Our OL hasn't proven anything. Parcells won't be fooled.

i really wish that Marion Dukes guy didnt leave....he seemed like he coulda made a contribution to this OL.

but Drew Mormino...y'all keep forgetting about him. add some bulk and hes gonna be a beast. hes already like 6'3, 315. WAS a starter, but got hurt.

anthony alabi...man oh man, hes got the potential, but just doesnt get it. he too i believe was said to be a starter but then worsened.

joe toledo...well lets hope he doesnt sprain his ankle getting out of the shower.

IMO, this is the most pressing need AGAIN this offseason. I agree we have a few keepers, but the majority I can take or leave. I dont think Carey is the same at LT so I would prefer moving him back to RT and I am very happy with our rookie fullback, which you might as well consider him a part of the oline. He opened some big holes in the running game this year and was a big improvement once he figured it out. We actually have someone that can get to the linebackers now. We have got to fix the line and decide what to do at QB before we will make any real improvement. I dont give any weight in what Beck did this year, because I dont think he had a real chance behind what we call an OL.

I expect that we will draft a LT, but we also need two guards who can run block.

Hadnot may want the large money for playing both C and G, so I just don't think that we can resign the guy for large money that he would like to see.

A top guard lining up next to Carey would help out...alot.....

As for overall grade with two game to go...C-, we are an average NFL line with two really good pieces and three average or below average pieces, no more , no less.

I'd like to see us draft a LT and move Carey back to RT. Carey did a good job at LT, however, he's a probowl RT. Keep Satele and resign Hadnot. That leaves the need for a good LG. We have plenty of backup players.

unfortunately Hadnot is commanding big bucks so far. i wouldnt overspend for him at all.

if he goes, then its Duke Robinson, G Oklahoma, in the 2nd round without question.
