I believe Philbin will develop into a premier NFL head coach & has the team on the right track after so many years of abject disappointment in Dolfandom. some people wouldn't know character, talent & real leadership if it smashed them in the mouth.... they just don't get it. it's fruitless to argue the point.
So far with all reports, as slanted and as inaccurate as they are. It seems like Philbin has been a stand up guy throughout and has the respect and support of his team. I am really hoping the team rallies around this media onslaught and can make a run in the 2nd half.
I'd still like to see what he can bring if he get "his" players. I'm not ready to give up after 24 games. I hope he's tellin the truth, but if he's hiding or covering anything, he needs to go.
I have always felt that Philbin is a solid individual and an effective NFL coach. The question though is if he is a quality head coach who can turn this team into a consistent winner. There are hundreds of solid individuals and quality coaches in the NFL, but not all of them have what it takes to be a winning head coach in the NFL. Unfortunately for Philbin, his character or his qualities as a human being are not what he will eventually be judged on as the Dolphins head coach. He will be judged just as every other head coach has been judged throughout the history of the NFL. His won-loss record and in the end that will be all that matters to Dolphin fans, or the fans of any other team in the NFL. Fans don't care if the head coach is a total a**hole if their team is winning. They also don't care if the head coach is the greatest man on the face of the earth, if their team is losing. They will take the a**hole over the great guy any day of the week if it means their team is winning more games than they are losing. Hopefully Philbin can be a success as the Dolphins HC, but that will only happen when this teams wins the majority of its games and gets to the playoffs. Until then, Philbin is a solid man, and an average HC who will be on the hot seat if the Dolphins are once again a sub 500 team this year.
