It's all over NFL and other networks now in breaking news that Philbin and Irlenad are not going to make it out of this with their job's.

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...bin-jeff-ireland-unlikely-to-survive-in-miami

However While I am happy about Jeff getting let go, losing Philbin is going to cause some Major changes again on this team, and the rebuilding process is going to start once again. Maybe for real this time? But hows this going to affect our team? Does a new GM and Coach want a different QB? Who's going to want to coach this team with the media constantly combing over them and the NFL next year making sure we have a nice locker room?

Your not going to get any top talented College coach wanting to get involved in this mess. I think were going to get screwed with some mid level Sparano type coach
and unknown GM to get talent costing us another 5-10 years of mediocrity. Where does it end?

Does Ross sell off the team and distance himself from all the mess or move them? Does Ross overpay big time to get a big name coach and GM in here? (Cowher??) or Chuckie?? What the hell are we going to do about our team??

What do you all think is going to be the end result? and How is this team setup next year?

  2. Personally I am waiting to hear what the investigation uncovers before forming any opinion. I think its premature to start talking about firing anyone.

People are jumping the gun on this, Silver talked to those in "league circles", another nebulous group of sources. I believe the rest of the season will dictate Philbin's security. With a new GM and the same coach, there probably won't be too big of a roster turnover. With both elements being new, I can see about half of the team being shipped off and a roster turnover that caters to both the new coaching staff's desires and a new set of evaluative criteria for whoever they hire for general manager.

Here's a chance for Bill Cowher to bring in his own people. IIRC, Cowher turned down the job because we still had Ireland and Ross didn't want to let him go.

Now, my opinion, Cowher is enjoying the lifestyle of not working his butt off, so I don't know if he really wants back that bad. I could go ask my brother, he and Cowher go back to Cowhers days in KC.

I'd think they go for a younger, offensive-minded coach.

I agree with you shula it's all speculative but the media and advocating groups are going to want some heads. Ireland is gone for lack of talent and leadership, but Philbin is gone if they can prove he tried to hide/coverup anything. Just looking ahead at what we have to offer.

It's unfortunate that a guy who didn't stop bulling in his locker room loses his job but a guy who put prices on players heads and careers could be coach of the year and probably coaches for 20 more years.. Winning speaks volumes, poor joe, he will never get another shot...

That article was an OPINION piece. It is not a fact, so, lets try and keep this in perspective, okay?

I think Ireland is gone, but, he should have been gone a long time ago. I think, ultimately, Philbin survives this. Maybe there's something I'm not aware of right now, but, I just don't see how this situation is his fault at all.

take into account i was pleading to hire john dorsey 2 years ago and now he has built an undefeated team in kc...smh. now i want matt malaspina as gm. he's the national scout for the 49ers. the guy knows talent, which we are severely lacking. for head coach, i want either gus malzahn from auburn or greg roman from the 49ers. i want a head coach who knows quarterbacks and has actual playcalling experience.

    a reality check from Dorfdad...

and my opinion is I don't have a problem with Ireland, it's Turner I want to replace. and the next time I have dinner with Ross & Philbin, I'm going to tell them exactly that...

seriously, Dorfdad is right, there are potentially very negative consequences & repercussions that go well beyond opinions in all this "who struck Jon" business... most unfortunate!

you're likely correct, but that guy is going to make a hell of an nfl coach for someone if he decides to leave college.

Nothing is going to happen if the Phins continue to win. I dont think Ireland keeps his job. If the team doesnt implode and gets a WC birth or better...Philbin will stay IMO.

I can see us having the first woman Gm in the NFL. I think Ross wont do it immediatley then it will look like a public relations stunt.

if 1 single piece of information comes out that philbin was told about the bullying, and or that he asked incognito to toughen up a player hes gone. Ross can't stand by him in any manner good or bad guy.

You either get a GM who will want to pick his HC, or a HC like a Cowher who would want to be GM/pick their GM. No more square pegs, round holes.

Dawn Aponte is good at her job with numbers, but does she know how to evaluate talent? we know Ireland's streak, can't be any worse or can it?

I just read something that would concern me, not so much as whether she can do the job, but how the players would feel with her as GM.

"The emergence of Aponte and the Dolphins’ current push towards respectability is not coincidence. Volin writes that Aponte played “bad cop” to Ireland’s “good cop” in the contract negotiations of such players as former star Pittsburgh wide receiver Mike Wallace, Baltimore linebacker Dannell Ellerbe and several others.

Aponte’s efforts not only helped bring those players aboard, but helped to get them signed to relatively cap-friendly contracts.

    http://gamedayr.com/sports/dawn-aponte-first-nfl-female-general-manager/

Its the bad cop part. I think maybe she may have created to much friction already.

Look someone is gonna take a hit for this. We know Ross is pissed beyond reproach. No way Ireland stays. I think unless the team gets to the playoffs, Philbin will be gone as well.

I honestly think the first thing Roas needs to do is hire a president. He's an absentee owner. He lives and works in NY and can only stay in touch with people by phone. That's not enough. He needs someone that is comfortable overseeing both the business and football sides of the organization, essentially acting as the de facto owner.

And you tknow what? Carl Peterson is qualified for that job. He really is. But if that job can go to a Russ Ball, so be it.

From there you have to hire the underlings, a personnel head, a head coach, and a Dawn Aponte type.

You have to be tough when you are negotiating, and it isn't like those guys got less than what they would have gotten elsewhere. The Dolphins overpaid pretty significant for their free agency spree, and honestly, it is a credit to Aponte that she was able to structure the contracts in a way that they do not hurt the team long term.

Now, I'm not trying to advocate for her being GM or anything. I'd honestly have to do more research on her to form an opinion. My initial reaction is that she is so close to Parcells though that I wouldn't do it, simply because I want the Parcells media policies out of this organization first and foremost. A big reason why the media goes on a witch hunt with the Dolphins is because of our media policies.

One thing I did read on Aponte was that in Cleveland when Cribbs was looking for a contract extension was that she took the lead in the negotiations and basically offered a contract worth $1.5 million per season. Cribbs's agent balked and said we will continue negotiating, when Dawn apparently told his agent that "The offer is $1.5 million today. It will be $1.5 million in March, and it will be $1.5 million in September." Essentially, she told him to take it or leave it. When she left, Mike Holmgren ended up signing Cribbs for $20 million over 3 years. Needless to say, Holmgren severely overpaid for a special teams player.

I agree with this. The structure of the organization needs to be reshaped. Someone needs to oversee the business and football aspects and make sure they are on the same page. These should not be separate as they are today.

    I think....

Dan Marino might be a good choice. I really dont know the role a Team President has. But I do know....we need a new face for the franchise.

    Look...the time is now.

What do they say...sometimes you have to hit rock bottom, before making the climb back to the top. Id say we have reached rock bottom. Ross has to use the oppurtunity he has been given.

We have a franchise QB, IMO. I think most NFL people see that. We have a very talented young roster with some key additions can compete right now. This doesnt have to be a slow painful rebuild. The team has an arsenal. Lets hope Ross sees that...and re commits this team to excelence.

Ironically, I think if Ross uses this oppurtunity to put the right people to lead the organization, you wont see a mass exodus of fans. They will overlook this season...because I think the majority of them see we arent far off, and honesly...I cant tell you how important it is to have Ryan Tannehill. The kid can play....we all know it.

I think that's probably what will happen. Marino looked incredibly ashamed and embarrassed on CBS today. He also hinted that changes are coming to the organization.

His absence and silence during the last almost 2 weeks has been deafening. Seems to me in the past most organization "statements" were always delivered by Ireland. This time they just come as "releases" to the press. That could be a clue.

Not sure this is a time to celebrate man. You can be happy he is gone....but he's leaving because of something that has made this franchise look horrible.
