Guys he's done well with two Franchises. Yes he had some misses in the end with the Colts and his last few draft, but could he be that bad? Thoughts?
What abput Bill Polian as New GM? Is that what your willing to settle for as our Miami dolphins general manager? A guy that "can't be that bad"?
Have zero desire for a 70 year old GM whose drafting as a whole his last 7 years was downright terrible. Indy canned him for a reason.
Bill Polian has seen better days. If thats the best you can come up with id rather retain Jeff Ireland. And thats not a compliment to Ireland.
http://www.advancednflstats.com/2010/03/bill-polian-doesnt-get-it.html I'm not interested in anyone running the show that is so easily dismissive of advanced statistics to help aid in making more sound economical decisions when it comes to free agency, and also using these methods as a way of evaluating players for the draft.
It's funny that you can't stand Ireland but would prefer a GM whose drafting ability has been massively worse.
As one that wants to see Jeff replaced, I wish some that feel the same way I do about Jeff would just stay quiet, because their lack of knowledge of the details hurts the stance of those of us who have actual evidence to back up our claim. When you are on a personal vendetta against the guy or having a knee jerk reaction, you say stupid things like you would rather have Bill Polian at this stage of his career than Jeff.
I was just thinking that as well- how a statement of "hell yeah" by an Ireland critic in regards to whether or not we'd want Polian as GM makes that poster lose all credibility.
If you ONLY KNEW how much this post of yours just backfired upon itself. The joke is on you man, not Boik.
I really do think it's been at a point where if you'd suggest replacing the guy with Carrot Top, they'd be all gung ho about that as well. Honestly, they just want this guy gone, even if it means replacing him with Gumby or Pauly Shore. The franchise is secondary to some of these follks.
.......Remember when we brought in Trent Green to replace Daunte Culpepper? If so, let that marinate.
... which is pure moronism b/c Ireland isn't bad enough to suggest any bum GM off the street would be better. I mean, sh-t, if we win tomorrow we're in control of a wildcard spot, so hypothetically it's not just about replacing Ireland but it's about replacing him with someone who will undoubtedly be better.
If you hire Bill Polish, you're really hiring his son Chris to be your GM. It's a package deal with the goal of setting Chris up. - sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 beta -
Yep this is a big reason why he is at ESPN and not Indy right now. He's done, not even worth considering, his son isn't an NFL Caliber personnel guy either. No reason to even worry about it, he's not a serious candidate for a job at this point.
Guys like your friend TooGoodForDez figure anyone would be better than Jeff. Charley Casserly, Mike Tannenbaum, etc. Basically any of the failed former GM who are now in the media.
Polian would impose his own son Chris in the job in short order .Think of when we inherited Wanny on Jimmys recommendation.
What Bill Polian did in his last half decade plus with the Colts was what people who don't know what they are talking about imagine Jeff Ireland is doing to the Dolphins now. It would be pretty much the worst choice.
Bill Polian is the reason Manning doesn't have multiple rings at this point. Arguably the most overrated GM in the NFL next to Bill Parcells.
Rather raid a guy from the Giants FO like Kevin Abrams, their Assistant General Manager, or Marc Ross, their Vice President, Player Evaluation Another popular choice would be the Steelers, Omar Khan, Director of Football & Business Administration Do not want another relic of the Parcells or Polian type.
Getting your disdain for Ireland stand in the way of reason, Dez....at any rate, it's relatively moot. Does anyone really see Ireland and Philbin here next season ?? The only scenario I see either here is if Martin comes out and admits he was just trying to screw his team and staff AND we somehow make it to the playoffs, despite all this, and actually act like we belong there when we do get there...
I think we should get Matt Millen, he's ready for another shot. And I mean, the guy drafted a player who is the best at his position in Calvin Johnson. How bad could he be right? Right? Anyone?
That's my biggest concern. Bill is questionable enough, especially now, but Chris Polian has proven little besides being an awful GM.
Maybe Bill Polian is not the guy for the job at this stage, but massively worse? That's judging him on his last season as Colts GM and completely ignoring everything else he did in his overall successful career. Whether he is ever a GM for another team again or not, his career has been massively better than Jeff Ireland's.
