I think Wallace could be used much better in the offense. Put him in motion, bubble screens, crossing routes so he can speed away from the defender. He is soft though, and that total lack of effort on the 'hail mary' pass was pathetic. The Dolphins have failed to take advantage of his speed, but we are stuck with him for at least another year (I think) as his contract would create a lot of dead cap space if we cut him too soon. This brings me to the thought that Philbin has not impressed with good coaching. He has not shown an ability to get his players to rise above the distractions and play solid, mistake-free football. I'd be okay to keep him, but with a new GM I understand if he gets fired too. The NFL is a harsh business. This is what worries me so much now. Fire Ireland, but the damage is done. The OL is a disaster. We need new LT, RT and two new guards. The Center is the only spot (if there is nothing to the Hernandez connection of course) we have locked down. How do you replace FOUR starters in one season? A very good draft would get you two starters -at best. It has been working for the Bears, but it is a bit of a fluke to start two rookies and have it work out. So we must overpay in free agency and hope we don't get the next Tyson Clabo. If you somehow solve the OL, turn to the LB corp and revamp that. Then the secondary is an issue and try to find an upgrade at RB too (an improved OL might resolve this though). The damage Ireland has done runs deep and will linger for two years even with a good GM replacing him.
Gibson, Matthews and Hartline are solid. A #1 WR like a Fitzgerald or Megatron would make them even better. Obviously, they don't grow on trees. Marshall might have been that, we've seen him actually catch TD's with a real QB in Chicago. I still wouldn't put him top 10, but he is lightyears better than Wallace.
Completely disagree. I don't see RT as a smart QB; I don't think he makes quick decisions (he's slow to get rid of the ball); I don't think he reads defenses well at all and often gets burned by a failure to do so very well. I don't see him as a guy who plays really instinctively (just as he had chances to run and does not take those or misses a blitzer). RT has a very good arm … but the "it" factor is missing. Russell Wilson has "it" - but RT? Just does not play that way. But, back to Ireland - he has failed miserably in too many areas. WR. OL. RB. QB is still up in the air but he has missed on several.
3 beasts on the roster at WR = Keller, Gibson, Mathews. I look forward to those next year playing major minutes, as #1, #2, #3.
Which is a part of being soft. Dansby and Burnett were not as athletically talented as Wheeler and Ellerbe, they were not soft, and that is why our run D was better with those two in the lineup.
The protection is absolutely an issue but there are ways around that. On the 4th and 28 play we kept 7 guys in to give RT time. That needs to happen more often IMO. Also, we have to be the worst screen-draw team I've ever seen. Theres a lot I don't get about the way we do things.
Yep, add in they are rarely called, and the Rb's are rarely used as receiving options and how Sherman does things just seems odd to me. For example their De was breaking contain on those sweeps..easy to take advantage of...we did nothing to do exactly that...add in OL's who simply cannot block on the move and here we are atm.
keller was a 1 year deal. horrible that he got injured, but he got 4 million to not play this year if you think about it...
I'm hopeful he comes back. We should get a QB who can play, other than as a robot. I look forward to that too. A less robotic system would be nice too.
Wallace isn't going anywhere with that $17.25 million dollar cap hit next season 23.8 million in dead cap space
Should Sherman be fired? Yes. Could we use Wallace better? Yes. Does that excuse Wallace's half assing it? No. Zach Thomas spoiled me, I want players that give all their effort. I said it earlier, but Wallace is a no-dick phony one trick pony. Dump Ireland. Brandon Albert and a FA guard, then draft a RT and another G. Re-sign Soliai. Dump Wheeler. Resign Grimes. 10+ win team.
I watched Trusnik absoloutley tank on an open field tackle that gave the Bucs a 1st Down. Can Jelani Jenkins seriously not beat out Trusnik who I think is garbage?
all i know is that this is the most incompetent coaching staff i have ever freakin' seen. there is not one that should be coaching above the pee-wee level. terrible gameplanning, no adjustments, lack of accountability, oblivious to the locker room, lack of teaching fundamentals, lack of conditioning the players, and anything else you can think of. i cant think of one thing they are good at. the team has gotten worse in every aspect of the game under this coaching staff....every aspect!
How are we eliminated from the playoffs? We are one game out of the wild card.... I'm not going to be a homer and say we are going to bounce back from this and rally the troops because I am just sick thinking about what stupid decisions Ross has in mind when he says "changes need to be made", but we are far from eliminated in this crazy league. It's not time to blow it all up. Give credit to tb oline. Frickin Peyton Hollis could lead the league again behind that line. I am jealous and imagine what that team could do with a real coaching staff.....
Just an example how bad the offensive line was: Think about that, basically our Rb's were dodging guys in the backfield on every run, that is simply unacceptable. It was so bad even L Tannehill tweeted hubby had to be iced down..again...b/c he was hit so often. Jim Turner..you're fired
At this point it doesn't matter if Ireland picked up Gale Sayers and Jerry Rice. For the 2nd consecutive year he completely neglected a critical aspect of the team and it is hindering our franchise QB's ability to make plays and our ability to win. Unacceptable that he can't seem to fix one problem at a time. Dumping Brandon and giving Tannehill no options was bad enough.
Exactly. You can only blame the RBs by looking at the stat sheet. Miller has talent, he has nothing to run through. RBs still need holes and lanes to run through. Tampa showed us how it was done. Didn't Mike Alstott sneak in a few runs on us? He already had the jersey on.
Really? He's basically the only reason we have 4 wins this year. He had carried this whole offense through all nine games. If you want to talk about things Russell Wilson has that Tannehill doesnt you could start with an elite running game and defense.
I don't blame just Ireland for this mess either. I'm not seeing what was advertised by Philbin. This is a poorly coached team. Moving parts don't fit the schematics and there are no adjustments. Chicago is averaging 28.8 pts a game. They have Forte who is awesome, and Marshall, but that was it. Jeffery was unproven coming into the year. Their QB hands out INTs like it was candy at halloween. Their Oline has been notoriously leaky for years. They are 3rd in scoring behind Denver and New Orleans. I'm starting to get the sense we've struck out again on a coach. Some were calling him an offensive genius. Not seeing it.
OK, I've thought about it and this still makes no sense. He worked pretty well with Brandon Gibson, who was brought in this offseason, prior to the injury. He also worked pretty well with Rishard Matthews last night, who had all of eleven receptions in 2012.
Agreed, now I'll grant Chicago does have a more veteran Qb and offensive skill positions players, however I'm not seeing awesome creativity on offense, more a handful of route concepts and a bad offensive line. And little attitude, when I say we are soft, I'm not kidding, we are a soft team.
Matthews was still hear, ditto Clay and Hartline. Granted with Gibby, BUT they were feeding him the ball
Yes they do have a veteran QB, but one that still has the propensity to throw to the other team, even after all these years. I'm not calling for Tanny's head, but calling to save his head. And that might mean a new coach. They brought in an under achieving TE (Martellus), but what skill positions do they have? They have better single pieces (Forte, who I love, ok it's definitely a man crush) and Marshall. After that, I'm not sure any of their guys are better than ours, or as a whole unit except RB are better. Crazy thing is, we had a poor mans version of Forte in Bush. Not as tough a runner, but adequate enough, and much more dynamic. They have similar stats this year. We had Bush. Got rid of him. Doesn't fit the system supposedly. Neither does anyone else on the team especially the oline save for Pouncey.
The bold sentence is a 15 on a scale of 1-10 for truth. The line is terrible. Easily the reason for 2 losses all by itself. I don't mind the WR's, and I think you're right that a rapport will develop between Tanny and Wallace over time. Keller and Clay would have been much nicer than Clay and ... . Still, it would be nice if there was a little time to throw. I am not sold on the RB's at all. Lamar Miller in for Reggie Bush has been a colossal dropoff, even with a terrible line. Thomas is still Thomas. Neither one is good enough, and I doubt that will change.
Lol. So he only works well with WRs from last year. But Gibson proves your theory wrong. So the coaching staff MUST of been forcing him the ball. Got it.
