He's a silver spooner. Whether or not he ever plays football again, his family connections will insure he gets some cushy soft white collar job, made for a casper milquetoast personality.
The fact of the matter is is that if he has had these issues in the past, has them ongoing, it seems he would have an obligation to report it to the team so that they can help address it. And wouldn't the release of pretty much all medical records be a part of the draft? If he has been depressed to the point of suicide in the past, and he received any kind of treatment, there is a diagnosis somewhere. If there isn't, seems like he made an effort to hide it. That's a problem. +100. Really infuriating.
If anyone should have PTSD on this team, it's Tannehill from all the sacks and hits he's taken thanks to Martin, Clabo, and Jerry.
Yes it is "a BIT" different then sending a text message in the way its different sending a prepaid posted envelope compared to one you have to put a stamp on. This is just the dumbest argument Dis, just because he looked it up on google or bing then sent it doesn't mean the intent is less. If that threat was serious and Incognito was dead and they found that on his phone from Martin do you think they would say" eh it has a picture of a woman and a puppy. no worries"? The intent of this photo is the same as the intent of the tone on the VM. Take the tone out of the VM and take the picture out of the meme and look at it again. But some choose to stick their heads in the ground and deny that.
"Thirty years from now, when you're sitting around your fireside with your grandson on your knee and he asks you, "What did you do in the great World War II," you won't have to say, "Well... I shoveled **** in Louisiana." Martin owned that shovel imo. p.s Patton....one of my fave films of all time. Martin? Wrong career. I wont say anything more.
Martin didn't act in a way that people would define as masculine so he must be gay. And gay men can't be tough and have to put on an act. Duh.
I agree with the Possible Gay angle. But not because of his demure nature and his complete lack of any manhood when it comes to handling his business , but because it makes sense. Why else would a grown man , 320 pounds at 6'5" have a problem fitting in with the culture of the NFL locker room? A lot of his actions point towards it and not much points away.
Because he's had a privileged upbringing and is extremely highly educated; from an upper-crust home with two equally highly educated, caring parents, where he's been given every possible advantage since birth. He majored in classics at Stanford, which exposed him to philosophy, civilized values, and an unhealthy dose of elitism. He looks down on crassness and barbarism. Deep inside, he believes himself intrinsically better than those around him. They can read this, since they aren't stupid, and they resent it. Combine this with an inability to excel at his position, which is costing the whole team wins, and it adds up to peer pressure and harassment, some of it malicious, meant to take him down a few pegs and focus him on reality, with which he doesn't yet have the life experience to contend. He's probably never experienced either failure or a situation in which others don't think he's wonderful, specifically high-achieving-black-kid wonderful, and he doesn't know how to deal with it. It's a sad state of affairs. He simply does not belong in an NFL locker room at this stage of his life. Being dominant at his position would have obviated the problem, but now he may never get the chance. Shame. Instead of accepting that he is now in a league where things won't come easily to him, as he's used to, and working to mold himself into an overpowering left tackle, he's taken the route of blaming others, and mommy and daddy are supporting him.
Interesting..well, he's all in against the Miami dolphins based on his little presser he gave in New York.
obviously, you're not a student of history http://www.soldiers-of-misfortune.com/history/gay-warriors.htm
It is? What's the difference? It's got a picture. This whole thing is no less ridiculous than it was day 1 Martin does not belong in an envrionment of competition and aggressive people. He did well getting to the level he did with the issues he has but it's clearly caught up with him. His mommy is jumping on a legal opportunity and will more than likely win with how absurd our legal system is. Just give them their money now so we can all move on.
Martin having mental issues and suffering from depression is one thing, if thats true he needs treatment and I feel for him. But a claim of PTSD is absurd and offensive to me. I've worked with Soldiers that have picked up body parts of friends, had friends die in their arms, have been injured seriously, attended funerals of loved ones who died right in front of them. They suffer from PTSD, they need serious help. Martin needs a shrink and some time off of work. People who have been sexually abused, violently attacked, been in combat have PTSD, Martin has some stress and depression issues. If he has a serious mental condition it wasn't caused by the Dolphins. If he or his attorney is seriously claiming PTSD then I'm done having sympathy for him. Done. I've seen PTSD in person and for a "grown man" being paid millions to play football to pull that card is just beyond offensive to me. Im NOT condoning Richie's behavior. Richie is a terrible person who shouldn't be around the NFL in my opinion. He's had enough chances, he's chosen to be a miserable prick who doesn't deserve to wear an NFL jersey anymore. He's been given every opportunity in college and the pros to start acting like a grown man, he's chosen to be a child, I don't want him around this team or the league anymore. But his actions are not the cause of all of Martins problems and to claim his actions caused PTSD is just outrageous.
I'm not going to read this thread, as a FinFan I am the one who is depressed and suffering from years of Dolphin failure causing PTSD.
George Patton had better things to do than police a football locker room. This is such a ridiculous scenario.
my question is, what traumatic incident has occurred for Martin to have PTSD? I find it hard to believe that anyone could suffer PTSD from being bullied.
Varies from person to person I imagine. Sounds like Martin was never bullied in his life but once he got in a locker room with Incognito that changed. I wonder if how common it is for an adult to develop PTSD after being bullied.
Curious if PTSD from locker room wouldn't being back give him flashbacks. This close to the incident, I'm not sure if that is a good idea. He will be bullied for the rest of his life, and doesn't even know t yet. All because he is afraid to stand up to his parents.
I would love to see a set of circumstances where Jonathan Martin would ever play for the Miami Dolphins again. Ross wanted to meet with him for damage control. I doubt it would ever sit well with the locker room.
