To be clear, I think Sherman and Philbin are perfect for Tannehill's first couple of seasons.

What I'm not so sure of is if Philbin can be more than the butler to Tannehill's development, ditto Sherman, ST and the D is not exactly outstanding this year, we all know the offensive line problems, and they up until now were unwilling to change their approach.

Believe in your overall approach all you'd like, when it is not working out on the field you have to change they are unwilling to do so..until this week.

Do notice, when Sherman used hat on hat blocking, DTrain has his best game in a long time, it went against their "our way works" approach, b/c it did work hopefully they keep it moving forward.

THill needs 1 Td throw in each of the remaining games to put Fiedler to bed, we have not had this level of competence since Pennington was our Qb...think about that...5 yrs..

I have always been against chucking it down the field at the end of games when down by multiple scores. Beyond the possibility of injury, the likelihood of interceptions leads to skewed stats which leads to negative perceptions in the media and among the fanbase. We can act like it is unimportant but it actually is. For Tannehill that would be 3 off his tally.

The reverse is same for TDs. This team almost always punches it in with the run when up close. This prevents Tannehill from getting several gimme TDs that other QBs are getting.

Perception becomes reality with some and if you add say 4 TDs to Tannehill's total and drop the 3 pointless Ints, he'd be at 18-8 and not one person here would be questioning his abilities as a QB.

If you take those INTs off his tally you have to do the same for almot every QB in the league who chucks the ball when trailing with little time left and gets INTd.

So comparatively Tannehill would still be where his is relative to the other league QBs. You can't just subtract his INTS and no one elses.

    Same for TDs.

I mean, if Tannehill were on a teacm with better coaching, and the receivers performed better, and the Oline yadda yadda... yes... then we'd be the Saints.

But we aren't and Tannehill's stats reflect that. If he were Brees, he'd be Brees. But that's not the case either.

Tannehill's stats, imo, reflect his performance accurately. It's almost as if they are based on his actual performance.

Punching it in with an offense is IMO indicative of QB play in a compressed field. Teams with stud QB's let th QB make the plays. Bree's, Rodgers, Brady, Luck. When they are within the 10 they have the ball and get the opportunity to make it happen. Sub-par QB's teams will take a balanced approach because they're not able to throw in such tight spaces, and make the quick reads.

To this point I've been impressed with how often they allow Tannehill to take the reigns inside the 10. Never saw that with our other QB's. it's a coin flip these days, which is a great thing.

No - some teams will throw a desperation pass when down by a score but lately most will throw a higher percentage pass and then hope for some trickery. That or some screens or even draws. Most team accept that, when down by multiple scores at the end (like us vs NO and NE), it's over and that you should save your players for the next game.

Normally I would agree but I don't think it's the reality in this case. A lot of these QBs get half field reads or rollouts or shovels or even screens...very high percentage passes. It's not as if they are consistently throwing into the teeth of the defence.

I remember Aikman, who was one of the most accurate passers ever, almost never passed near the goal line. That was back before anybody cared about some warped passer rating system.

Shanahan is done as a winning NFL coach IMO. It also seems like he and his brother are a package deal which doesn't make it any more appealing to me. I don't doubt that he isn't a huge RG3 fan from a personality standpoint, I wouldn't be either if I was his coach.

I just don't understand why they have tried to convert Tannehill from a quarterback who can be accurate on the move to a quarterback who is predominately a pocket passer. Several people prior to that years draft made statements that Tannehill was the most accurate roll out passer in that draft including Gill Brandt. They weren't saying he was the best quarterback in that draft but that the abilities to pass on the run was his best attribute. I wonder if Shanahan would have converted him to a pocket passer?

As has been said multiple times, Ross should have dumped Ireland, and those of us that have been ridiculed and badgered through the last 3 years on this board are owed an apology from several board members. But I won't hold my breath waiting for it to happen

Probably not, and what is most surprising about all of this is, why draft a guy like this, if you aren't going to take advantage of his best capabilities ? If Philbin insisted on this change of THill's style, then if he is canned, he has no one to blame but himself.
