According to this article both got into the game. Watkins at LG when Garner went out and Brenner slid to C and Thomas as an extra tackle. I didn't notice either during the game which I guess is a good thing for an OL. Most interesting thing in the article is: I guess this is why we haven't seen Thomas yet, as they view him as a tackle. http://www.thephinsider.com/2013/11...f-week-offensive-line-sam-brenner-nate-garner
Huh....so....does this mean he really hasnt been a bad pick? That they seem determined to put him at one spot. I will say this....Philbin is VERY resolute in how he thinks things should be done. No matter how bad it has gotten...they havent tried to make Tannehill into a scrambling QB. They have been stubbornly deliberate at how often Dion Jordan plays in a game. They are stubbornly insistent on how they handle their running backs. In fact...just about every where you look, it seems like once a decision is made, its as well as carved in stone.
People can ***** for days that guys were a scratch even though they played. Then they also tell me they can tell where the QB is looking and have kept track of Tannehill's cadence with Go and Go-Go. I love it.
Just don't understand why they want to keep him at tackle. As guard he would be an excellent fit athletically. but as a tackle his feet seem slow. I'd love him at LG.
I agree on Thomas, to me his movement is that of a guard..left side.. V-manis..I did see him get a snap.
I saw Watkins at LG for one series, but I think Brenner was out then, not playing C. According to PFF, Watkins played 5 snaps, and Brenner played 5 less than the other 4 starting OL.
I wonder how we did on those 5 plays. Maybe we were trying to see what Watkins could do in a short spurt. Nothing like real game time to figure out if a guy can help you out.
It was a 5 play series, so the offense didn't do well. I think this may have been the series where Weddle got his sack blitzing from the outside, and on a play previous to that, there was a penalty. Watkins personally did ok, but the offense as a whole didn't. I think this may have been the series where Watkins was LG:
Yeh..he lined up at TE. Similar to how we used Yeatman. Very likely could see that kind of power formation used against Carolina to keep the pass rush off Tannehill.
I am puzzled by the Dallas Thomas decision. Since Miami has really struggled at the tackle position why can't he get on the field? Clabo has played terribly until recently and McKinnie has been adequate but not good. Are they setting Thomas up for failure with them being insistent he is a tackle?
McKinnie has done well enough that I'd say if we'd had him all season, we'd be better than 5-5 right now.
Does anyone know how Garner and Brenner graded out? I was passively watching and didn't key in on them, but the results didn't suffer much. Could one of them replace Richie should he be released? I really liked Thomas as a LG coming out. I hold out hope for him there.
I was impressed with Brenner under the circumstances. I think he was kind of a unsung hero along with Garner.
