You're nuts if you think Tanny is going anywhere. Philbin. Don't know. Pending the investigation and the rest of the season. Same with Ireland
Players don't get canned, they get cut or benched. Do you really see that happening with Tannehill? And why would you see that happening with Tannehill? OTOH, I do think it might help Tannehill to sort of cut the umbilical with Mike Sherman. We can probably do better both at OC and at QB coach than what Tannehill is getting now. That probably only happens if Philbin is let go, which I think probably will happen with everything that's gone down.
i think philbins gotta get us into the playoffs, or at least very close for me to be happy with how things have gone this season. Some of our big problems fall on his lack of foresight. (Oline being terrible for one) Tannehill though? As has already been said, you're crazy if you think he's going anywhere.
Nah, how the NFL works is a new HC would have to use THill, the Organization spent a top 10 pick and 2 yrs on him at that point in time, he is not going anywhere. For example, look how long the Jest stuck with Sanchez, he basically had to flame out to be replaced
Could. Won't. With everything this team does need and with the WR corps Tannehill had last year and the O-line he's been treated to this year, I'm of the opinion any new coach is going to try to get Tannehill some protection and weapons and see what he can really do as he starts to hit his prime rather than throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
I don't have faith in either of them. I'm willing to give Tannehill another year to prove himself though. Not Philbin. I want him gone.
I've got faith in Ryan Tannehill. At this point, I don't have faith in Philbin or his staff. I'd like to think that Philbin, pending what happens with this investigation, if he survives will put a better staff around him than he currently has. I'm not sure he will, and this team has come out far too flat far too often. Adjustments haven't been made far too often. Yet, Miami sits at 5-5. Sometimes, something is being done correctly.
I don't have faith in Philbin, and think he needs to be fired. This isn't a well-coached team, and I think at one point or another every aspect that falls under the umbrella of "coaching" has had a major red flag. I like Tannehill, but I think tying into the coaching issues I have, I'm really concerned about him not developing and accruing bad habits if this bunch gets another year.
Philbin - below average coach IMO Tannehill - Average QB Philbin should be fired. Tannehill is good enough that I wouldn't cut bait on him, but if a good enough QB is available, I'd be in favor of bringing in compeition.
Pissass...Pates done...lol. Well...I'm gonna wait and see how he comes of of this mess and how his team performs over the long run.
As I said during the pre season, Dolphin fans wont be patient with Tannehill one bit. He's better that he was last year with the worst oline in the NFL and mediocre weapons outside Clay. Tannehill's cap friendly too. No doubt I want him back. I want him to start all 4 years of his deal too.
Tannehill gets to play out the remainder of his rookie deal no matter what if I were running things. Philbin stays only if he coaches this team to the playoffs, anything less and I'm handing him his walking papers. I don't think this is a well-coached team, a well-coached team would not have lost to TB, and Buffalo at home. We would be 7-3 under a quality coaching staff, but if we make the playoffs you give him another chance with a new talent evaluator, because I want Ireland gone barring a super bowl run.
Right now I'd say Tannehill is an average QB. Having said that, I think that is more than most could expect for 2nd year converted WR. The other site has a side by side statistical comparison between he and Luck. Their statistical performance is alarmingly similar. I use this comparison because some want to kick Tannehill to the curb whereas Luck is the Second Coming at the QB position.
I know people mention Henne a lot, however I just don't see it. I know the stats are similar, I just see a better quarterback when I see him play. He makes some great throws that I do not believe Henne could ever make. Halfway through the 2nd season I completely lost faith in Henne.
IIRC, Ireland wanted McCoy and Ross hired Philbin. Ross has also gone out of his way to defend Philbin and praise him during the Martin/Cogs fiasco. With the BS that has gone on, I don't see Ross dumping him as he values Philbin's personal values and wants this put to bed. Tannehill isn't going anywhere regardless of what happens to the staff. If anything, we move Moore or Devlin and bring in a fresh arm for competition. Biggest thing holding us back is poor coaching adjustments and Tannehill's lack of experience coupled with the worst OLine in the game today. Tannehill has carried this team all season with sporadic help from the running game and marginal help from Hartline or Wallace. It's mostly been him and Gibson or now Matthews getting it done.
Have about as much faith as you can have in a second year coach and equally experienced QB with no offensive line to speak of. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
The offensive line is holding this team back. With even an average line we're probably 7-3 instead of 5-5. If we want to make the playoffs they need to step up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zac_Taylor Former Nebraska QB, was an UDRFA QB for the Bucs in 07. Spent 2 months with them then was released. Married Sherman's daughter and was his assistance and QB coach with the Aggies and now the Fins. Nice guy. Not impressed with him.
Yeah, not a ton of experience. I am not qualified to evaluate him, I just wonder if he's the guy to develop Tanny. He and Sherman are probably a package deal.
It'll be at least 2 more season until we see what Tannehill is. I have no problem with that. I'm all in on Tannehill. Other than the deep ball, he's the LEAST of this team's problems.
Thing is...he's responsible for the development of Tannehill which I think most reasonable observers would say is coming along nicely. Not much he can do with the o-line or Sherman's stubborn and rigid use of our personnel.
The state of the offensive line, which is this team's biggest problem, is on Ireland and Philbin. I speculate that they decided to go with what they had, and address it next year with the cap room they preserved, rather than bringing in free agents to address the problem this year. If we don't have a good offensive line bext season, and the team doesn't make the playoffs, Philbin is gone, and Ireland with him. I don't think either gets fired because of the investigation. Tannehill isn't worth mentioning; there's no way he's replaced.
Why would some of you say(in this thread and others) this is a poorly coached team but if we make the play offs you would keep him? To me that says the team made the playoffs inspite of poor coaching. I really thought Joe was the right coach for this team, but as time has gone by it is time for a clean sweep of GM and HC + staff. This team has come out flat far to many times, bad players are still getting far to many reps, clock management not the greatest, and IMHO the list continues to grow.
I honestly don't understand how people can watch Tannehill play and factor in his line and relatively few starts and not see a super star in the making. As far as Philbin goes, I was 10000% behind his hiring and since the Tampa game have cooled on him a bit. I think think it was inexcusable to start the game against Tampa flat, as a coach. Mixed with how he isn't forcing change from Sherman have made me ok with him being let go. If the team turns around and gets into the playoffs though, then I'll probably get back in his corner and chalk up the Tampa thing as a mistake by a new HC in his first huge scandal. But he needs to move on from Sherman. Also, not for nothing, but of the other 2 guys linked to the HC job (Fisher, McCoy) Philbin has beat both in head to head match ups.
Nobody should be comparing Tannehill to Henne at this point. Year 2 for Henne as the starter and anyone with eyes could tell he had noticeably regressed. Year 2 for Tannehill as a starter and it's plain as day he has significantly improved his game. He's not lighting the world on fire, but he's gotten much better and that's what you want to see in a QB. Put a serviceable line in front of him and there's no reason to think he won't continue to improve. So, yes, I have faith in Tannehill. If this is his ceiling, it would be a problem. But I think he'll continue to improve. If he can finish the season with a TD/INT ratio greater than 1, I'll be happy. Philbin - ask me at the end of the season and/or end of this investigation.
I believe Tannehill will be a very good QB. I have seen too much growth in his skills: not locking in on the receiver every play, actually looking off a safety occasionally, touch on screens and swing passes, better ball location, .... There is no way he is going anywhere. I hope that Philbin gets another year or two, but I cannot predict how Ross will behave.
I'm firmly in the 'replace Philbin' camp. I don't believe he's a leader of men. The team is not well coached and they're stubborn. Even if we make the playoffs, I think it will be despite he and his staff (save for a few coaches visibly doing quality work) and they'll get trounced in the first game. It would be a fluke and prolong the inevitable by 1-2 years. Tannehill -- no reason to dump him. Maybe you bring in competition, but no reason to simply dump him right now. Cost effective and he ain't terrible right now.
I was a big proponent of Philbin. I still have some faith in him, but it's being tested. I question his willingness to adapt and to motivate. I think that maybe he has placed too much faith in his coaching staff and that they have failed to adapt and give younger players a chance. That's on Philbin. IMO he may remain b/c Ross seems to like and respect him. I do think that if Philbin does remain he should be forced to ax Sherman and Turner, at a minimum. I would also argue that Coyle and Rizzi (sp?) have been bad this year. I still have faith in RT. He's been better than last year and at times carried the team. That's something you never saw from Henne, so I think the stat comparisons there are ridiculous to anybody who actually watches the games. RT's improvement comes amidst marginally better targets and much worse OL protection and usually much less run support. I think the staff/play calling may be hindering his development. But despite that I would say that RT has shown he's at least in the same class as the Luck's and RG3's in his draft class. I still have faith that given time and a better supporting cast his ceiling is top 5.
IMO the mess is in large part his doing. When you have a player abandon and turn on the team mid-season, that is a huge indictment.
Absolutely is, he needs to have control over what the players are doing. The number one thing a coach needs to do is make sure his players are willing to do and sacrifice anything for their head coach.
