In your opinion, does 9-7 guarantee us a wild card spot?

I'll admit that we probably need other teams to lose as well, but do you think if we went 4-2 for the rest of the season then we have a very good chance of getting the 6th seed?

Yes, 9-7 should be good enough for a WC spot.

I don't think they can go 4-2 though.

Is a good way to run certain scenarios through. I think it's possible, maybe not probable though.

This team folds under pressure and performs too poorly against teams it should win to expect it, though.

Possibly, but we still have to face the Jets twice. They may run hot and cold, but they have a very good front 7 and Rex will probably dial up some exotic looks that could confuse the hell out of our patchwork offensive line.

Well...opinion aside. I believe if we finish 9-7 theres no way we cant have the #6 Seed.

I dont think the OP was asking if we thought we could get to 9-7, rather is 9-7 good enough to win the WC.

The head to head tiebreaker is the most important aspect of getting into the play offs right now. If Baltimore is 9-7 Miami is out due to head to head. If the Jets are 9-7 and Miami's 2 losses are from them then Miami is also out. Steelers have a chance to get in on this as well. Plenty of ways to go 4-2 and miss the playoffs.

If the 2 losses don't come from the jets then yes. If we sweep the jets and go 4-2 then no doubt we made it. Lets face it, every team going for the 6th seed either sucks as much as us if not worse. Idk if we can go 4-2 but I don't think the jets can either or any of the 4 win teams can go 5-1.

9-7 would almost certainly get us in the playoffs. I seriously doubt any of those other teams go 5-1, and I can't really see the Jets going 4-2.

8-8 would give us a good chance IMO.

By going 8-8? I think they could easily get two losses out of Oakland, Indy and Denver.

I'd almost be willing to say 8-8 gets you in. Seriously....9-7 would cement us a spot in the playoffs. Lets face it, the Bills, Jets, Browns, Steelers, Ravens, Titans, Raiders, and Chargers have ALL been up and down this entire season. Some of them have been borderline horrible at times. Those teams are the ones in the hunt right now at this current moment. We are certain to get some help from other teams but we have at least half assed take care of business on our end. In my opinion we are better than all those teams so we should...beat those teams out for a playoff spot.
Must win against the Jets, and get back that win against the Bills. A statement game needs to be won along the way as well against either Carolina or New England, and i'm almost willing to bet that the deciding game of the season will be against the Pittsburgh Steelers (WHICH WE WILL LOSE). Tell me i'm wrong...Thats how I see it shaping out. I like our chances even at 8-8 depending on who we beat, who gets beaten, tie breakers and all that crap.

Remaining schedule (in no apparant order)
Carolina-Can we stop the run? Thats how we beat them.
Jets x2- I don't care what anyone says, these are two games we should win, but I see a split.
Patriots- What a statment and confidence booster we could create by beating them. Sadly I see a loss.
Bills- Must win in my opinion, and we can do it.
Steelers- Another game we should win but that depends on if your getting good Pittsburgh or bad Pittsburgh.

To get to nine wins we have to beat the Jets twice for sure...We need to beat the Bills, and we need to come up with a win against either Carolina, New England, or Pittsburgh which is going to be tough task. I know Pittsburgh has been bad but those are the type of teams that end up knocking us out of a playoff spot "and you know this.....MAAAAN".

It would be great if we won out in our division to get those nine wins.

provided the 2 losses are to NE and CAR, then yes -- it is nearly a guarantee

in a different configuration, odds are still good ... but bring more than BAL into the picture, such as NYJ + PIT ...

beat the JESTS twice, JILLS and PIT and just about only BAL could take it away (since they'd be the only WC competitor that holds a head to head tie breaker)

    I don't see it.
They've lost 2 straight, have 4 of 6 remaining games on the road including Indy & Denver back to back, followed immediately at home by a physical 6-4 Zona squad. If they lose those 3 they're already at 9 losses.

Plus Tenn will be lucky to finish 0.500 in conference play, and that's if they win all 3 games against Oak, Hou, and Jax [assuming they lose to Indy & Denver], and they've already shown the capacity to lose to Jax & Hou.

Not to mention in 4 straight weeks the Titans have to go OUT to Oakland [from Indy]... then BACK to Indy... then OUT to Denver... then BACK to Tenn.

If we win this week and New England loses to Denver, we would be one game behind New England for the division.

    JUST SAYING.

I think the current pattern will hold for a little while longer...current pattern being the Dolphins blowing their opportunities to climb above 0.500 and instead falling a game below 0.500, then being one game away from the season pretty much being over...rising up and winning again.

That's the pattern that has been in effect since Week 8. They were 3-3 with a chance to go 4-3 and get back above the winning mark. But they blew the Patriots game and it wasn't until they were 3-4 with things at their most desperate (this is when Martin blew up) that they were able to rally and claim that win over the Bengals. They had a genuine opportunity to climb fully back into the picture and go to 5-4 against the winless Buccaneers, but lost the game and went 4-5 instead. A loss this week would have virtually ended the season, but instead they rose up and won.

I think once again this week with a chance to go 6-5, instead they're going to drop down to 5-6 and be faced with another elimination moment against the Jets in Week 13. Then they'll rise back up and win again.

They'll rinse and repeat by losing to the Steelers...but then the following week I think that's when the pattern breaks. Instead of beating the Patriots they'll be Belichick'd. From then though I could actually see them winning both the Jets and Bills games to finish 8-8 and be at a head-to-head tiebreak loss with the Steelers for the 6th seed.

Guys, wake up. Put down that pitcher of Kool-Aid. We are NOT going 4-2 against the Panthers, the Jets twice, the Bills in Buffalo, the Patriots and the Steelers.

I still hope I eat crow for Thanksgiving, but it would be a miracle.

If one of the losses is this weekend to Carolina definitely. That would make 8 of the wins against AFC teams and give us a pretty strong tie breaker advantage.

NOBODY....was as ever tortured in regards to having their hearts broken, then Red Sox fans. Well, maybe the Cubbies.

I remember distinctly what it was like being a Sox fan that year. July 24, 2004...my first son was born. I remember holding him in my arms, and watching ESPN in our hospital room when the ticker said Ricky Williams was retiring. And then I remember watching this....

That game changed the Sox that season. They were the Dirt Dogs. They became scrappy. Fast forward to the ALCS. Sox are down 3-0 to the hated Yankees. It was Sat Oct 16th, and we had just been blown out IN BOSTON, 19-8. All I heard from Yankees fans was its over. Nobody in history had ever come back down 3-0 to win an league championship series.

So..please, dont tell me what you know is going to happen. Dont tell me whats not possible. All it takes is one win. One win gets you to being down 3-1. Then you get another win, and all the sudden, its 3-2. The Phins need confidence. If they can just win, one at a time, anything can happen, because....you know what...IT HAS HAPPENED.
