http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/11/22/3770292/miami-dolphins-brent-grimes-focused.html Just geeked over this dude, it's been so long since we've watched a real corner play ball at the position. The way he digs that back foot and jumps a route, the beautifully timed elevation, the incredible instinct and balance on the pick 6, his fearlessness coming up for run support..he's a joy to watch. Best free agent signing of the offseason in the whole damn league.. And there's this to go with the package. Dude needs comeback player of year and visit to Hawaii.
Love Grimes. No chance of extending him before he hits FA now. We'll have to bid on him. I seriously wonder how all the drama and dysfunction here will affect Miami players who are FAs after this year. Will they be more likely to leave because of it? More likely to stay because there is an "us" versus the world feeling? Dunno, but I assume it has to factor in slightly... after dollar amount, of course.
Good point...bk has one as well.. Did see a very positive reaction out of grimes when asked about his contract, said he loved it here and would like to play here.. Y'all, we need to start working the wifey gentleman, tweet her up yo!!! We can't get rid of humble cats who play elite level football and work out hard in the offseason.
Randy Starks is the big unknown going into free agency as I think Grimes is near guaranteed to get the tag. Something just tells me this team won't pay big money for a 31 year old DT. Soliai on the other hand may find a soft market (you never know) and come back at a reasonable price. I know on this board there is a big push to clean house but I think this is more wishful thinking. We're 5-5 and in the thick of the playoff hint with a 2nd year QB. We haven't gone all Atlanta Falcons on everyone. Ireland may be gone but I doubt Philbin is. Having said this, if the coaching staff stays, I think they almost have to make some kind of play in free agency for o-linemen. It would be nice to know who was behind the Albert trade talks because I think most now would have given up that 2nd to secure the LT position. I doubt he'll get the tag again and we might make a play for him - will be very expensive though.
yeah grimes was a great pick up for sure without him we would probably be a 3 win team atm hes been huge
It would not surprise me if the FO offers him a low ball contract and he ends up walking away from them.
By far my favorite signing in the offseason. Atlanta screwed up letting him walk, injury or no. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
Anyone know the two corners ranked above Grimes? Looking forward to Steve Smith trying his usual stupid stuff and Grimes just smiling as he shuts him down, hope this is a guy we can keep around a while.
And yeah, Grimes is a beast and I love watching him play. He still has plenty left in the tank too. I'd offer him a 3 or 4 year contract. He deserves it. His wife does need to pipe down a bit though.
The 4th rated corner currently is Tyrann Mathieu. I seem to recall some folks here wanted us to draft him. As for Revis you know the Jets would never trade him in the division.
That's what I mean. As far as I know players in the last year of their deal can't be extended now, correct? Past the deadline.
Here's the issue... I don't think Ross trusts Ireland to do any more negotiating for the team. If he plans to fire him (and he should) then he'd be insane to let him make contract moves. The real question is, WHO will be the decision maker/GM on contracts come free agency in March.
The Tannehill's natural defense mechanism of playing possum is how it survives. See how it has confused its predators? They do not know whether to eat it or not.
have said it before, will say it again, best fa signing other than wake by Ireland. Would rather pay the man than franchise him. He is a lock down corner. Relies more on instint and skill other than just speed or size. He will be great for a few more years.
What would be a reasonable deal for both sides? 10 per? 13 per? I really hope Ross is working on a new GM in the shadows and the day they announce Ireland has been fired they announce our new GM. Then a day later a new deal for Grimes :-)
The Bucs traded a top 15 pick, we weren't going to do that, thankfully. I'd much rather have picked up Grimes like we did than trade a top 15 pick for Revis. And the Jest never would have done it anyways.
Oh man, he would fit so well with our defense, escentially taking Jimmy wilsons role. But you know, he smokes marijuana and has a nickname
We need to trade our 2nd if Ireland stays. Move up and grab who u want in the first. Ireland almost completed the transactions but fell short. A trade up for Jordan and a trade for Albert would have been the best 2nd round picks Ireland has ever made.
If fairness, the Cardinals probably would have stayed away from him if it weren't for Patrick Peterson basically staking his reputation on him and promising to keep him in line. His college career was obviously a huge red flag, I don't know how anyone can fault teams for staying away from him. Good for him and the Cardinals that he's playing well, hopefully the kid has grown up. And really knowing what we know now.....would this group of "vets" been a good group for him to be around?
One of the few things I got completely wrong - Grimes has been as solid as it gets and I didn't think he had a prayer of being a # 1 CB coming off a complete achillies tear. I'm sure he'll want out of this circus next year, no chance he stays with Miami - One and done. Shame.
