Strictly from a coverage standpoint I would disagree, I did like the safety instincts Dansby played with in coverage, he could back pedal and play zone pretty well..I was not a Burnett fan but his best attribute was coverage imo..
For sure it look like that's how it started, from the information I gathered, I even think the coaches told Dion they wanted him to be a primary def end, but as long as the kid continues to flash unique abilities, I don't think you keep telling this kid he's just gonna be a pass rusher.. I also feel that's what excites him most..being a pass rusher that is.
Why you leavin a brother out???....I can show you predraft threads where I was clamoring for a jack of all trades master of a lot. It's not a big deal BIg C, it's give and take on prospects..sometimes were right sometimes were wrong.
If I go by what the coaches said, they want to have him become a really good pass rusher and then expand his role.
That's good stuff, and even though I love everything about this dude, I can see his weakness, and that's continually not countering in his pass rush when his first move doesn't work..
I remember that thread, I viewed it as more as ppl didnt want to see him cover Gronk alone as his first tru NFL assignment. He did a few times that game and hasn't looked back. Now we know that he has that skill set at this level and want to see him develop it even more.
I know some will not want to hear this or even entertain the idea, but I wish this board could let Shouright come back to it, I think the guy gets tremendously misunderstood, I think his brain just works differently than ours, and I do however believe he loves his team and I know he's very smart..I would like to take this time to ask the mods if we could lift his ban and welcome him back.??? I know some will blow it off like that but just think about it, all he did was use a lot of advanced stats to argue his points..I mean I know respected guys here that are into that stuff.. He's also being treated like sh&$ on another site..
I like shouright, but he trolls. I don't know how anyone could deny this. Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
Probably so.. I think that was the other debate we had here predraft, and that was how a coach should develop this skillset, my take was to develop him as an overall player.
nah, that's just Sho being Sho, he challenges you to think about your position, sometimes to the extreme, I think it's disingenuous to think we all don't have annoying qualities about us and how we post sometimes..I thought he added good insight and I miss the dude..he was one I considered a heavyweight and was here from the get.
I think part of that was decided due to his injury. I think they also felt that they could develop him as a pass rusher with the smaller time they had and with less impact on his shoulder.
I can understand that but it's just hard to understand that just keeping him rushing the passer would be less stressful on the shoulder than any other responsibilities of the overall game.
I don't know why not? The pertinent changes are the positioning and a coverage element. Misi is better holding the edge then he is off the line, and is better than average in coverage for a 3-4 OLB. Vernon is an edge rusher, and has struggled when put at closer techniques as he's called upon to do sometimes as a DE in this defense. He's also shown to be at least solid in coverage. Jordan is an edge rusher, and has the upside to do stuff in coverage you don't see from 3-4 OLBs, or many linebackers in general. Cameron Wake I don't see what the issue is, functionally, about OLB. His coverage snaps are basically the same as a DE as they are an OLB, he's rushed about 93% of passing snaps this year and last, and his lowest number in the past as an OLB was 88%.
I don't think the people who suggested Jordan be an DE only were particularly well-founded, but I don't think we really could have(or even can going forward) believe that Jordan is the anti-tight end answer. Pandarilla deserves a degree of recognition after the Gronk thread though, but I'm not convinced.
I don't think Misi is a real good option as a MLB. He's an edge setter with pretty good linebacker skills, I don't think he's anything more than average moving through traffic in the middle. He hasn't been as good this year because he's been off the edge too much, IMO.
I agree, and our best DL grouping would be to have Starks, Soliai, and Odrick on the field at the same time. You could line up: LDE -- Randy Starks NT -- Paul Soliai RDE -- Jared Odrick LOLB -- Cameron Wake/Koa Misi LILB -- Dannelle Ellerbe RILB -- Phillip Wheeler ROLB -- Dion Jordan/Olivier Vernon Obviously, you would have to upgrade the ILB's in this set and add more depth to the DL, but this formation would allow the team to maximize the abilities of Jordan and Wake, IMO. It would also keep Jason Trusnik off the field.
Someone did a count of anti Tannehill threads Shou started on FH. It was ridiculous. I dont know if its trolling...or pathological. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
He's holding the pick to a standard relative to what has been already accomplished..until Tannehill reaches that he's gonna press, I don't see anything wrong with that, he's all about the advanced analytics in that case.. Regardless, i think it became in vogue to rib him here, and then the new folks would see how the old folks were treating him and in return showed no respect..it's his way of communicating, he doesn't mean any harm on people, he just uses tools in his arguments.. I've said my peace, I thought he made the board better and I hope he gets a chance to celebrate with us when we do win.
Sort of, really he should have been used the way JT was in 06, BUT with more coverage responsibilities. Real problem is by using him in coverage you are negating his pass rushing talent. Which will lead to "he only has 3 sacks! BUST!" nonsense
This I agree with, love Kraken but let's be honest here, his is waay to stiff to do much more than rush the passer, his coverage ability is non existent
Why should he get banned for trolling if that's what he does is called? Dupree baits and trolls on a regular basis and never been banned. I sense a double standard.
I 2nd the ban lift, yes he couldn't make a point without some sort of sarcastic gesture...but who cares. The guy is certainly no less annoying that Toddphins or DBoston80, and those guys are back.
IDK, personally I think we're better off with a flipped 4-3 Under that features an oversized RE capable of 2-gapping, and I'd even go so far as considering Soliai for the job ala Red Bryant. I think this scheme best fits our personnel, and we can easily go from that to a 4-3 Over. It lets Wake keep his hand down, utilizes a penetrating 3-tech DT [Odrick/Starks], and allows Soliai & Odrick to line up in multiple positions & techniques. I think it provides the most versatility.
Since a 4-3 Under is basically a 5 man front with the SAM linebacker playing standing up at the line outside the TE, couldn't we let the side the TE lines up on determine who the SAM is on that particular play [either Wake or Jordan] since the SAM can be a hybrid player? Since Wake is always on the left side, and since he and Jordan are both hybrid capable players with great edge rush capability, couldn't we run a left-right system where Wake continues manning the left edge, Jordan the right, and the side the TE lines up on determines which role they play- either SAM or rush end? If we did that, if the TE lines up on Wake's side then Soliai becomes the 2-gapping DE head up on the RT, and if the TE lines up on Jordan's side then Odrick becomes the 2-gapping DE head up on the LT, or you could even have Odrick 1-gap it off the LT's inside shoulder. In the 4-3 Under, the edge players are the rush end and the SAM linebacker [or the right LB in our case], not LDE and RDE, which is why I had a problem with fans complaining about Odrick playing right end in base D last year saying he's too big, not a good enough pass rusher, blah blah blah. He wasn't the edge player; Misi was. His right end role was more that of a 3-4 DE which is obviously closer to that of a 3-tech DT than a 4-3 DE. Either that, or you move Odrick to the 3-tech DT role since he can get good penetration as a 1-gap player and find someone else to play RE. You can look for either a stout 2-gap player like Penn State's DaQuan Jones if your goal is to take away the run and force offenses into becoming one dimensional... or a 1-gap player like Dominique Easley if you're looking to be more disruptive in the backfield including stronger pass rush ability on 1st & 2nd down at the expense of run-stopping ability. For me, with Wake, Jordan, and Odrick on the field, I might be more inclined to go with the better run stuffer and trying to force offenses into 2nd & 3rd and long passing situations where we can turn Wake & Jordan loose, so I'd opt for DaQuan Jones.
I agree that I think banning him was a bit harsh but he did need to be stopped because he was not just making an argument. He was sabotaging threads with the same argument over and over and it was not a debate. It was him just telling everyone they were wrong because he knew better. I think he deserved a vacation but I did not know he was permantely banned I figured they gave him a few days off and he got his feelings hurt and stopped posting here.
TBH, Zeke, did not know he was banned until it was mentioned in a thread. Liked Shou, did not know the reasons why he was banned. Would love a sort of "mod's explain their actions" thread when it comes to banning that way the air is cleared, it's right there. Do know he was warned on many many occasions, personally just thought Sho was a weird guy which is not unusual in the mental health field IME
Jordan should be playing, every down he possibly can. 3-4 Hybrid sound like an awesome idea (always loved the Saban defense) but our players are odd. Some fit the 3-4, some don't. Stealing from KB's list.... LDE - Randy Starks (I think he's a goner though) We'd need to fill this spot. NT -- Paul Soliai (I think we resign him either way). Depth could be an issue, NT's don't exactly grow on trees. RDE -- Jared Odrick (I think he's perfect for this spot, kick him inside when we go 4 man line). LOLB -- Cameron Wake (straight up rushing off the edge, hand in the dirt on passing downs) LILB -- Dannelle Ellerbe (he can play this position, much better than a true MLB in a 4-3, he's overmatched there). RILB -- Phillip Wheeler (I'd look for an immediate upgrade here, maybe keep him for depth. Koa Misi could play it a bit I think.) ROLB -- Dion Jordan (I think he'd be a menace. Vernon can back him up, rotate and play some end in the 4 man line) I like the looks of it but I think we'd be soft in the middle and I'm not sure how well Wake and Vernon would do in the "set the edge" roll.
Shelby is looking like a good improving run defender as 4-3 end. Think there would be any place for him in that scenario? He doesn't fit a 3-4 OLB and probably too light for a 3-4 DE.
Alan Branch is a free agent; that'd be taking a page straight from Seattle's playbook. I can't comment on DaQuan Jones much. I attended their game last year against Wisconsin in Happy Valley; Jones had a good game, but Gerald Hodges really stole the show. Jones strikes me as more of a 1 or 3 technique based on what I've seen, but again, it's pretty limited. Personally, I'd rather re-sign Randy Starks and let him play at DE. He was outstanding as a 3-4 DE in 2009. He could also be your 3 Technique (he's the #2 DT according to PFF I believe). I'm a big Louis Nix fan as well, and I'd take him. He can also give you something on all 3 downs which is a boon. I still think you can run more of a 3-4 front. With Wake, you can still let him keep his hand in the dirt if that's what he prefers. He did pretty well in Mike Nolan's defense doing that. I think you can still move Dion Jordan around enough to align the matchups the way you want it. I know Cameron Wake hasn't rushed from the defense's right side very much, but it is something he did in the CFL, so I think there's flexibility there, albeit most might consider it "hidden" flexibility. But, I think you can really do some nice things with him as a pure pass-rusher and Jordan as a guy who can rush, drop, bang the TE, man up, etc. Doesn't really matter if it's a 3-4 or hybrid, I just wish the staff would utilize it more, and I think it's a pretty big indictment on Kevin Coyle that it's taken him this long to figure out how to use Dion Jordan. Of the prospects we've discussed here and in the draft forum, I'd rank my list as folllows: 1A) Louis Nix - if you re-sign Starks. 1B) Stephon Tuitt - if you re-sign Soliai. 2) Ha'sean Clinton-Dix 3) Taylor Lewan 4) Sammy Watkins 5) Cyrus Kouandjio/Cameron Erving
I think Wake and Vernon would do fine. Wake, as it is this year, has had to set the edge on many occasions, as he did last year. The biggest weakness is you don't have a thumper in the middle to play against the run. Miami doesn't have a Karlos Dansby, Brandon Spikes, or Navarro Bowman type of LB. I think the best-case scenario is getting Philip Wheeler off the field, and trying to add a guy like Spikes, or drafting someone like Shayne Skov, A.J. Johnson or Greg Blair. Moving Koa Misi inside would be a BIG mistake. I don't think you want him trying to read those types of keys when he's been on the edge since college.
Odd, b/c what we've seen from Clay is what we have been seeing just more chances to display either big plays, or mind boggling drops. Same guy who can break 3 tackles to score a 40+ yd td is the same guy who'll drop a pass in the 4th qtr w/2 minutes left to play
I was one of the people pumping up Clay as a potential draft pick you putz. Of course I wasn't about to wager the TE position on Clay stepping up this year when he wasn't displaying that capacity during the preseason after Keller went down.
