No dout in my mind this coaching staff is gone... Allow cam to go 95 yards to beat you is totally unacceptable... This defense is night and day.. Great first half, then 95 yards.. The offense isn't helping them either... No way we are suppose to lose that game... The passes to Wallace are so so, tann missed, Wallace dropped a few..either way we can't score, we can't stop anyone... Looking forward to next week... Already over this lose

Some may want to doubt this, but Miami lost this game when they tried to kick a 53 yard field goal to extend the lead to 6 points instead of going for it on 4th and 3. Ryan had just gashed them on running plays on the previous two plays. You can draw up a run pass option for the quarterback on a roll out to get three yards. Nope. Instead, we play it safe and attempt the field goal. Granted, they didn't let Carolina score on the next possession, but that missed field goal completely swung the game to them.

Also, when Carolina went for it on 4th and 10, is there any doubt that if we were in that situation, down by 3, we would have punted and tried to get the ball back? This is the difference between a coach playing to win (Rivera going for it on 4th and 10 deep in his own territory) and a coach playing not to lose (attempting a long, difficult field goal instead of going for it on 4th and 2 or 3).

If we keep this staff for next year how many of you believe they will learn how to win?

Most NFL coaches fall into that category in all honesty. The players make the biggest difference in the game. There are certain situations that are more under the coach's control, and there is a lot of data that shows if coaches will just start taking some risk with their decisions, you can move the curve so to speak.

Bottom line is this. Joe Philbin has surrounded himself with a very poor coaching staff, and the Dolphins don't have the players to make their system work. Instead of adapting to the talents of the players, they have been very rigid in what they want to do. IMO, Philbin has to clean house in his coaching staff if he is retained, and if he doesn't want to, he needs to be dismissed.

Bottom line is this though. This team needs better players, period. That's on Ireland.

I'm one that feels Miami needs to get rid of both and start over. I'm not one that thinks coaching makes a major difference in the outcome of games, but I haven't seen anything from this staff that makes me think they are anything more than a middle of the pack staff.

Most NFL coaches seem pretty conservative. I have seen it advanced that this is because a conservative coach can try and deflect loss blaming to the players, whereas an aggressive coach will get called out for something like going for it in that situation. The perception of the "safe" thing being unquestionably correct seems to be shifting at least as more advanced stats and studies make their way into the game, but there is still often a backlash against aggressive decisions from broadcasters/media people.

Looked at some numbers. The success rate of going for it on 4th and 3 at Carolina's 35 yard line with 7:22 left to go in the 4th quarter, up by 3 points is 57%. The success rate of kicking a field goal there is 50%. Had we gone for it and been successful, we would have increased our chances of winning this game to 86%. Hitting the FG would have given us an 83% chance to win. By missing the field goal, our chances fell to 58% of winning the game.

Here's a link to the win probability chart during this game. http://live.advancednflstats.com/index.php?gameid1=2013112406

Along with what I stated above. when we had the ball inside Carolina's 10 right before half time and come away with only a field goal and our play in the 3rd quarter, this team was sunk.

How can Sherman face the offensive team in any meeting when he showed how much confidence he showednin them? Was petrified to even try a pass over 5 yards. Was totally content to try and just sit on the ball and never ever...****ing ever try to chllenge to score points. I agree that trying to kick a FG instead of going for it on 3rd and 3 was the ballgame. You played scared liked that...you will lose every time. Sherman game plan in the 2nd half could have been run by a 2 yr old.

This is at best an 8-8 teams. They will win some close ones and lose some close ones. Not a playoff team. With a better coaching staff this would probably be a 10 win team. With a better than garbage offensive line and competent coaching staff this would be a serious playoff contender.

I gave Philbin and Sherman the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe they would change things up and the Team would play a complete game today. I guess that was only wishful thinking on my part. Once again the Offense settled for field goals and couldn't put they foot on the throat of the other team when they had the chance. Once again with no help from the offense the Defense gave up a game losing drive in the 4th quarter. 0 points in the 2nd half, I don't care who you are playing against, is a disgrace. This coaching staff should be booted out the door with Ireland at the end of the year. I hate starting over again but these guys have proven that they just can't adjust when they need to. If you can't make necessary adjustments you are not going to win in this league

Another Dolphins season ending in disappointment with the fans saying maybe next year.

Why are you guys talking about %... We can not do anything in the second half... It's like joe jes pats the guys on the back and says good game so far guys keep it up... Actually ppl will say the defense lost this game but when you can't even get into fg range in the second half it's pathetic... That goes on coaching...

I agree. What really upset me at the end of the first half is that the coaches had the defensive backs playing 30-40 yards deep to prevent the Panthers from completing a Hail Mary pass. Unfortunately there were 8 seconds on the clock and the Panthers instead of throwing the ball deep, threw a short pass and ended up gaining over 20 yards because there were no defensive backs in coverage. This allowed the Panthers to kick a FG with 1 second left on the clock. So basically the coaches gave up an easy 3 points at the end of the half to the Panthers.

This was just plain dumb coaching by the Dolphins.

And... How about the Defense just giving Carolina a field goal at the half? That drive by Carolina was huge for them. Now we need a TD late in the fourth, instead of a field goal for the win. Albeit Sturgis isn't a guaranteed make anymore. :pity: IDK I am just in a crazy daze after this debacle. Tired of debating this team, We Win as a TEAM and We Lose as a TEAM..... You should know the rest.

To be fair, the panthers fan base was calling for Ron's head since the end of season two.. They made progress tho so ownership stuck with him.. There is talent on this team I'm not sure about joe, should we let him learn or get rid of him for a retread

    Agree 1000%.

And when you coach "not to lose" the first thing you lose is your job.

    Bye Philbin. It's been real.

the middle of the field was not used in the gameplan today..there were some poor throws to that area as well..

I saw a lack of aggressive playcalling in th 2nd half, i saw coyle make a grave mistake with his protection of his side of the field before the half..I also saw a lack of feel on your team by pilbin for not calling a timeout before the 4th down at their 20..that team was not ready to pay a 4th down in that moment.

I agree completely theres no doubt in my mind that we would have never even considered going for that 4th and 10 if that were us. I said the same thing to myself as I was watching Carolina go for it. And if we had stopped them on 4th and 10, do you think we would have gone for the kill shot in the endzone or ran the ball up the middle 3 times?

This loss does not fall on the defense..But it gave up those points before the half. Gave up a long driveTD to start the second half. Gave up a long drive TD to end the game. This is on the offense..but the defense could have gotten them off the hook.

the defense held a high octane offense to 20 points. it was our inept offense that gave the game away.
