They almost hired him instead of Woodson. It will not happen in season if it does happen at all. Do you think Cal is that stupid? Kentucky can beat the Knicks the way they are playing. If it happens, Herb Williams will probably be the interim/lame duck guy for the rest of the year and then Cal next year. I dont think Carmelo has an interest in staying with him as coach which will suck. If Dolan was smart he would go crawling back to a HC with a resume and one Knick fans love (Jeff Van Gundy). JVG will get the best out of him. His offense is suited to Carmelos strengths. But Dolan is too prideful and arrogant to do that.

Rose probably tore his ACL again last night. I know a lot of people on here clown him, but that sucks. I feel for the kid.

Yeah, too bad. Tough to see him ever really being the same again.

Makes me appreciate what LBJ has given is last 3 years. Could end in an instant

I am not a Rose fan at all, but that's just terrible. Hope they're wrong and he makes a full recovery.

I really do not like the guy at all, but this sucks. You never want to watch someone get his career screwed like that by injuries regardless of who he is.

Besides, I would have wanted for him to be healthy to watch him get Jeremy Linned by the Heat, again.

Is this the best start in the big 3 era? This team is stacked. I expect Beasley to blossom as the year goes on. To me he isn't a #1 offensive threat but can flourish as a second or third option.

Eff. Wise..yeah..this is the best Heat team ever.

So far..it's the best offensive team in THE HISTORY OF THE NBA. (Remember that last year's Heat team was the best shooting team EVAH.)

Small sample sizes and all.....remember that.

I expect the defense to round into form as the season goes on as well. (They always seem to struggle a bit early on). The only persistent question is the rebounding. I'm really looking forward to seeing how Oden impacts that late in the season against the bigger teams and particularly in the playoffs. I don't expect to see much if anything out of him until the second half of the year so we'll have to be patient. I haven't watched Indiana play, but they seem like the biggest (and maybe only legitimate) threat in the East. Oden may be a big factor against an Indiana team that may have developed a few more offensive play makers than when we faced them last year.

Not really. Indiana's offense sucks just like last year.

As for the Heat's rebounding...hard to rebound when you make everything. Watch their Defensive Rebound rate. That is what matters. Last year it was at 73%. This year it is at 73.7%

it gets to 74.5%...that is fine. it would make them a top 10 rebounding team.

Yes but I dont think Melo is gone. Knicks can max him out at 5/125M in 2015 and other teams can only offer 4/96. Plus in 2015 the knicks have only 4 option years on their cap and all are very moveable or can just be declined. Felton, Shumpert and JR imo could get moved for a pick (and the knicks should do this sooner then later) and Tim Hardaway Jr is a team option which so far it looks like its reasonable to pick up.

This team is crap right now. It might be best to find other expiring contracts and get picks thrown in those deals to set up their future. But I doubt Dolan is smart enough to do this. That would involve planning ahead instead of acting on impulse

Actually, Kobe's cap hold was monstrous, so him signing (for slightly less) now, as opposed to later, gives them more room. Granted, I would have liked to have seen Kobe take less, for the sake of getting other, big named stars here, but really...who were they going to grab? LeBron was the ultimate prize and to be honest, I don't think anyone expects him to leave Miami. Same goes for Wade and Bosh (and I wouldn't want either, as a Lakers fan, anyways).

The young guns who were to be free agents all pretty much signed with their home teams, so 2014 is pretty much a dead plan, unless Melo opts out. And if he does...The Lakers will have room for him. If not, then they will look towards 2015 and most likely, Kevin Love, who has been posting Lakers related pictures on social media, with not so subtle hints about wanting to play there.

If Nash medically retires, then L.A. gets out from his contract and frees up more space. If he refuses, then he gets waived and they use the stretch provision and drop his cap number down to $3 million.

What this deal really seems to mean, is the end of Pau Gasol in L.A. Unless he resigns for a huge discount, I can't see L.A. holding on to him and what his cap hold will be. So my guess is they renounce his rights (if they don't trade him prior) and preserve that money to fill other needs (like making a run at Melo, for example).

Keep in mind, as a fan of L.A., I really don't want to see Melo in a Lakers uniform. But all signs seem to be pointing towards a run at him. What would be interesting is if some sort of trade is worked out to send Pau to New York for Melo (along with other pieces heading to The Knicks). I doubt it, but it is plausible on a few levels.

So yeah, not the extension us Lakers fans wanted to see Kobe sign, but beyond the surface, it doesn't cripple The Lakers as much as most think. Either way though, they will need some extreme moves in order to be a contender, if that is what they are going for.

  39. Samphin

Samphin Κακό σκυλί ψόφο δεν έχει

I do like, however, that Kobe is taking the stance that his contract is somehow raging against the machine and players like himself are vastly underpaid under this current system. From a business standpoint, he may be right, but it won't win him too much favor with the mass public (not that Kobe cares).

So as a Laker fan...you don't want to see them go after Wade, Bosh or Melo....

So being a Laker fan means you hate good players?
