Tanny was hit as he threw the ball. Should have just taken the PI penalty.

WADR, it was a bad throw by Tannehill. If he is indeed trying to throw back shoulder on that play, he needs to have his vision checked. When Hartline puts his hand out in front, he's asking for the ball out in front. He's beaten Milliner so badly, that Randy Moss has now been reincarnated in the #82 jersey. As padre said, he has a good 1.5 yards or 4.5 feet on Milliner. Tannehill doesn't throw the ball until Hartline asks for it. Yeah, Hartline runs a slower 40, by .17 of a second. But Milliner is not going to make that up on a well thrown ball out in front of Hartline. At least I don't think so. I mean, lets assume that they are each capable of running their timed 40 on that play. Hartline gets his 1.5 yards of separation at about the 38 yard line. And Hartline is fairly close to top speed. So that .17 of a second, can he make that up? I don't think so. But I haven't done the science on it. :wink2: I do know that the .17 of a second is when both players start at a stand still running their 40. But Hartline is already at mostly top speed. I don't think you can look at their 40's and time it out scientifically because you're not comparing apples to oranges here. If the ball is thrown out in front, where would it land? maybe the 12 yard line? Maybe the 10 yard line? So we're talking at most 28 yards (38 to the 10) that Milliner has to make up.

Now, IMO, the play call was gutsy but not as bad as some have opined. They are expecting Milliner to be predicting a short route. He reacts on the play as expected. He's essentially caught flat footed when Hartline gives him the slippery move at about the 40. I have no idea why Tannehill threw the ball where he did. Am I saying Tannehill sucks and OMGZ we should cut him immediately? Of course not, I'm just talking about one play in what was a very impressive game by Ryan. This pass and the one to Clay on 4th and goal were ones he missed though.

And my goodness, (I'm carrying on now)... why in the world does Mike Wallace come out of his cuts like he has a grand piano strapped to his back? I digress...

the fact that you guys are arguing over one throw in the game, in a game where tannehill actually played really good....still?? is kinda pathetic.

RT is having a really good year. on pace for 4000 yards+ yet you guys still want to worry about one or two throws.

EVERY QB in EVERY game has a bunch of passes they wish they would have thrown better.

why does EVERY pass by RT have to be scrutinzed SO MUCH??

he is playing like a top 10 QB in the NFL right now and he's only in his second year.

    cut the kid some slack.

If that pass to Bline is thrown on time, ie, when he is even with Millner, that would be a huge gain, THill had to anticipate the throw and have a "if he is even, he is leavin'" sort of mindset

Hell, even the patented (and trademarked) "Hartline catches ball and falls down" move would have resulted in a nice gain on 4th down

because nobody is sure that he is "the one" yet. For me, he's the best young qb we've had in a long time, but that's really not saying much in the grand scheme of things. He's still young, and raw. But I think he's progressing nicely. The Jets game showed me a lot because he was doing one thing that we've all wanted him to do this season. Tuck it and run. It finally clicked. And it really opened up things in the second half.

We have seen what Tannehill can do behind a bad offensive line, now I would like to see what he can do behind a good offensive line. Bye the way Jay Fiedler had a total of four (4) 300 yard passing games in his career. Tannehill already has four (4) 300 yard games this year.

but don't you know? On this board, Tannehill is the chosen one that can never do wrong. It doesn't matter that he chokes in the 4th quarter or that he almost never hits a receiver in stride, because the important thing is that he's Ryan Tannehill.

With that said, that play was obviously Hartline's fault because anything else would be unspeakable here!

No we realize RT isn't perfect but are tired of the anti RT people that hate tannehill because if he succeeds they were wrong and they are secretly campaigning for GM or simply criticize any missed pass as a way of trying to show how smart they think they are. They want be called a guru.

You are allowed to criticize Tannehill, what you're not allowed to do apparently, is disagree with some of the criticisms of Tannehill, otherwise there's an incessant stream of goddamn crying like your post.

You guys need to get the hell off your crosses and take some pills for your persecution complexes, because its making rational discussion impossible.

As we make this playoff run, we should be banding together in support of our wasted pick. Sure he's terrible and can't even hit a slant route in stride, but he's OUR franchise bust.

The sooner we can all unanimously see this the better.

irrational. as usual there is a rational argument that lay somewhere in between both sides of absurdity. "Tannehill sucks" (as you imply) or "Tannehill is the new messiah" are irrational opinions based on nothing at all.

One or two throws can affect a game. That pass to Welker in the Super Bowl in the NE/NY II? That's just one throw. Even if he threw for a perfect QBR it is not pathetic to look at his mistakes and analyze it.

That's kind of a weak argument. Baltimore says hello. Buffalo says hi. Cincinnati says hello (and Cameron Wake says goodbye), New England says hello. Carolina says hello. Tampa Bay would like to say hello. Etc. etc.

The Wildcat was used because Miami couldn't run for crap the first two games of the season. The team was averaging around 3ypc, and that was with two very good RBs. It also inherently didn't help the QB because it doesn't involve the QB.

Sure Pennington had deficiencies, but he was the MVP runner up for a reason. The guy played smarter football than anyone. He had ten total turnovers in 2008, which will end being half as many as Tannehill has this year. Imagine this team's record if Tannehill only had 10 less turnovers?

That's because the box was stacked against us, because they knew Penny couldn't throw. We used the WildCat because it was the only way to operate inside a stacked box.

I never said it helped the QB either. I said it provided the big play ability a QB with an arm would provide.

He was a runner up because he managed the position, in spite of his physical limitations better than anyone ever could have thought. But make no mistake, if he had possessed even a middle caliber NFL arm, we never would have resorted to the WildCat. Defenses did not respect his arm.

I don't agree with that. Penny could throw and did throw. No, he did not have a very strong arm, but it was strong enough. He was still making all of the "NFL throws" including the deep outs. Yeah, the ball traveled slower and he had to release it earlier, but it really wasn't much different from what Peyton Manning is doing this year. I don't think Manning's arm this year is much stronger than Pennington's was. Or at least, he doesn't throw it much harder even if he is technically capable of it. But he's still very effective downfield. And so was Pennington. According to PFF, Pennington completed 18 of his 40 throws of more than 20 yards downfield (45%). 45% completion on those passes would put him 8th among QBs this year.

I see no real comparison of Penny to Peyton, who is still lighting up defenses even if his arm isn't what it used to be. Penny's arm was made up of rubber bands and ramen noodles. Not to take a cheap shot, but my last memory of Penny was weak throws to the tune of 4 INTs in our last playoff game.

The Ravens dared him to throw and made him pay when he did.

Didn't get 222 yards, 22 yards shy, but he has 20 TDs 14 ints and 3315 Yards. Now needs to average 228.3 yards a game

    Very doable!

Also credit Tannehill for the 4th qtr comeback and come from behind win...

Tannehill finished the game 20 for 33 for 201 yards, three (3) touchdowns, and one interception, giving him an 95.5 passer rating on the day. He now has 3,316 yards and 20 passing TDs, plus 1 rushing TD. He also had two rushes today for 56 yards (211 on the season) to move us to to 7-6.

Damn stats sites are incorrect or not updated yet for some reason.

I can't really consider that a boneheaded INT. I mean Polamalu was literally lined up on the defensive line at the snap. It was a good play.

It was an excellent defensive play, but Tannehill was starring Hartline down, allowing shampoo to get over there and break on the ball. Most of Tannehill's picks have came on that play I think. All defense's know to look for it now.
