Let me make sure I have this straight: 1 win over a struggling Jets team to bring Miami to .500 = Validation for Ireland? Ok.

nah blitz, but we are 6 and 6 with a chance to win a huge game and make a very solid push to a playoff birth with a 2nd year head coach and Qb..

if they finish the year winning three out of the next four, gonna have to keep things in tact..Thats too good of finish to break things up..unless of course some things come out that are beyond our control, but just in a football sense, i would keep it together.

Whoa, how about the struggling Dolphins? Isn't that why you guys ramble endlessly about Fireland?

So now you have to qualify wins by demeaning the quality of the opponent. And if we make the playoffs you'll qualify that by saying the AFC was weak and we barely snuck in.

The anti-Ireland stance has robbed you of the ability to even celebrate success. I feel bad for you.

The anti-Ireland stance is much more justified than the pro-Ireland stance is. He's been the GM in Miami for 6 seasons now, and the Dolphins have had 1 winning season during that time span. We have been one of the worst drafting teams during that span. We are not good at signing free agents and have no understanding of what value on the open market should be. We have overpaid for Brandon Marshall and Mike Wallace during his tenure. We have blown more 2nd and 3rd round picks than any other team. He has now presided over 3 tremendous public black eyes for this organization. Can you name any other GM that has his track record over a 6 year period and kept his job?

Meh, the same weak sauce argument over and over and over and over and over.

Still mad he wasn't fired along with Sparano? Get over it. All it does it cloud your view of what's happening now.

Come back to that when there's been some kind of actual success. The playoffs are still a long way off as it stands right now. On the flip side of this will you still be admonishing everyone for criticizing Jeff Ireland if the team finishes 7-9 again?

Thank you. Sometimes I feel like I've woken up in bizarro world when I log in and still see folks acting like it's bat **** crazy to have a negative opinion of Jeff Ireland as GM.

If folks want to still support Ireland, that's fine. But to continue to try and paint those who have lost patience as maniacs is such a tired act and by far more crazy than the viewpoint of those being criticized.

To your point about wasted 2nd and 3rd round picks - I was listening to moving the chains today and Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller were talking about the success of the Seahawks. Kirwan mentioned that the Seahawks being very successful with picks in the 2nd and 3rd round as being a huge reason for their success.

And GM, if you think I can't celebrate success, you know absolutely nothing about me as a fan. If Miami goes on a playoff run, I'll be absolutely thrilled. It won't change my opinion of Jeff Ireland. One that's been formed after 5 years of mediocrity and poor performance. I did say if Miami goes 9-7, Ireland should be retained. That was before the "scandal". But if Miami does make the playoffs, I agree Ireland will probably be retained. I wouldn't be thrilled but I'd gladly accept another year of Ireland for Dolphin playoff football.

Back to the OP, I think the problem is that in the last several years, we've been 'teased' by this team so much that it's kinda difficult to get excited, even after a victory over the jests, because we seem to think that the shoe fill fall next Sunday at Pitts??

Am I wrong or does no one else feel this way ??

Seriously, where do you get 7-9, at no point in the entire season has the team been 2 games under .500, are you subconsciously rooting for that to happen?

To answer your question, I prefer putting the blame where it belongs, not on who's been here the longest, who I dislike personally, or any other designated scapegoat. If we finish 1-3 against the schedule we have remaining it will be on the players and the coaches. New England is the only team we "should" lose to and even the Pats got dominated for 30 minutes when we went up there in October, so clearly there is enough talent on this team to handle the Bills, Jets, and Steelers.

If we finish 10-6, make the playoffs, beat Indy and lose in OT at Denver I'd feel the same way. Credit the players and coaches for performing under pressure. They're the ones out there playing.

The GM is responsible for acquiring the players, the HC, and the overall direction of the team. We have a talented young roster, yes it has some holes but what roster doesn't? We're in good shape cap wise, we have all our draft picks, we have a good HC and a solid staff under him. So regardless of what happens over the next few weeks I think we are well positioned to compete for the next several years.

That's how I evaluate the GM.

If Ireland is fired it will have more to do with his relationship with Philbin than anything else. Of course, we are all just inferring and speculating about their discord. For all we truly know, they can be best friends.

One thing I will say is that I think there is a disconnect between most fans expectations for this season vs the team's expectations. You can't expect to bring in 9-10 new faces and have immediate cohesion and performance. It's just not realistic. We can banter about the money spent et al but this just is the way it is.

For all we know the team may be performing just as management expected because, after all, this is a very young team that is very inexperienced at some critical positions (namely HC and QB).

I have a hunch that, playoffs or no playoffs, those advocating for the scorched earth policy will be very disappointed.

The only way Jeff Ireland is kept at this point is if the team makes a superbowl run and wins it. Outside of that, there is no way Jeff Ireland will be retained. He and Joe Philbin cannot work together and do no see eye to eye on personnel.

IMO, the reasons the run D has fell off are mainly the move of Odrick inside, and the swapping of the LBs. Ellerbe improved the pass defense at LB, and Wheeler improved the blitzing, but neither are thumpers in the run game like Dansby and Burnett. Also, Misi is playing fewer snaps pct wise, and setting the edge is his forte.
I think there was a method to the madness behind the moves though. If as has been said, do what you must to negatively effect the opponent's passer rating and you increase the chances of winning.

Before the Martin/RI stuff arose, I'd agree with you 100%...since that has come up....I just don't know...Of course, we could be somewhat surprised by the outcome of the investigation, but I can't see how both make it thru this..... Just an opinion, but Ross has to draw the line somewhere...

Your right we have been teased time and time again this season is on a teeter totter as we speak. Much like most every game. Suspense in a movie is one thing but I don't prefer so much with my football team and this year the Martin thing gave us drama, I don't think any of us care for drama in our football.

He is indefensible, and I am fairly confident he will be gone after the season ends.

I just want to see the ones that defend him, and are the blindest of homers, come out and rip Steven Ross & the organization after he's gone. Watching them tap-dance around that is going to be hilarious, because they are such homers, and then to not to criticize the owner will beyond entertaining.

I don't think anyone is against letting Ireland go if we don't win 3 of the final four games...I surely don't think we have folks that will rip our owner if he fires Ireland if we don't win three of four.

Please stop generalizing folks or sensationalizing certain logical scenarios that would make it hard to fire anyone, that's not how the board thinks..

Maybe your confusing this site with the other place you came from and our just continuing to treat it the same..

DJ you can try and pooh-pooh what I am alluding too, but you know I am right. They did it with Sparano and they'll do it with Ireland too. They would defend, defend, defend Sparano, and once he was gone, they changed their tune, and skewered him unmercilessly. It will be so entertaining to watch them do it again.

Blind homers, get your tap-shoes spit shined, you'll need them soon. The show is about to begin.

I don't think so..I think the general consensus is the majority wants him gone, I'm one who is saying if the guys team that he built goes 9 and 7 and makes the playoffs then everyone needs to think it thru..

You want him fired if we go 9 and 7 with a playoff birth? Strictly in a football context, and the report comes back positive.?

I'm not talking about a majority, or even a consensus, I am specifically talking about those that are the blind homers, they agree with everything the front office does by rote. It's been fun to watch them squirm as its closer and closer to Ireland's firing. I've already seen several of them attempt to change their tune, so they don't look completely asinine when it happens. Such hypocrites !
